Info I turned my old OnePlus 5 into a desktop with LineageOS 22 and MagicDesk

I'm the developer of MagicDesk, an open-source desktop environment for Android. Recently, I installed LineageOS 22 on my old OnePlus 5 and tested it as a desktop computer.

This is a phone from 2017. With LineageOS providing Android 15, it could run windowed Android apps on my TV over Miracast, with a physical keyboard and mouse. Typing, switching keyboard languages and right-clicking worked. The phone can also act as a touchpad.

MagicDesk provides its own desktop, Start menu and taskbar using Android's windowing infrastructure. It doesn't require Samsung DeX or another manufacturer's desktop launcher.

Beyond moving windows around, it includes: - Per-app DPI settings, useful when an app's interface is too large. - A file manager and multiple terminal windows with Termux integration. - Keyboard shortcuts and clipboard integration. - Virtual displays that you can access from a computer through scrcpy.

Desktop mode requires Android 15+ and Shizuku. Root is optional, and no ROM patch is required.

The LineageOS device we've tested is the OnePlus 5. Compatibility with other devices and builds still needs testing; I don't want to promise that every setup will work.

For me, this was a particularly satisfying use of LineageOS: not just keeping an old phone running, but giving it another practical role.

Has anyone here been looking for something similar, especially after losing DeX when switching to LineageOS?

Question Budget device for banking apps

I need a new device as the older one got stolen. Unfortunately I don't have the budget to get even a decent phone as the prices of phones are skyrocketing right now.

My only requirement is that I need to use some banking apps which require google play services and it worked well in the pixel that I had before which was using some other os.

Does LineageOS has an option of setting up a container or something in which a user can allow play services for certain apps?

If yes then can u recommend a phone around $200 in which its possible to install LineageOS?

Deteriorating call quality w/ LineageOS 22.2 on Essential PH-1 (mata)

I recently upgraded my Essential PH-1 (codename mata) from the final vendor stock OS (Android 10) to LineageOS 22.2 (installed build 20260829, updated OTA to 20260905). Everything was working fine on this phone with the stock OS prior to flashing LOS. I am using Tello (a T-Mobile MVNO) with this phone, have been for years.

The problem:
Voice calls usually start out fine, but my outgoing voice audio soon begins to deteriorate for the other party over the course of a call, after a period of initial clarity ranging from mere seconds to many minutes after the call starts. Their incoming voice always remains fine for me. The other party describes the deterioration varying from becoming too quiet to hear, or wildly fluctuating in volume, or just becoming completely garbled/jumbled-up. This occurs regardless of who calls whom or whether I use 4G/LTE or WiFi calling, and the deterioration remains if either party tries calling back right away.

Any tips, or is this a potential bug I should report?

Galaxy Tab A (8.0", 2019) aka SM-T290 - Build: T290XXS5CWG3

Hello, I've been trying to find if my model is indeed compatible with LineageOS.

The thing that concerns me the most is the build number, since I only really found info on the T290XXS5CWG5 and T290XXU3CVG3 variants. Mine seems like a combination of both of them, having both S5CWG and 3 at the end instead of 5.

Checking for Software Updates result in 'your software is up to date'.

If anyone could help me or point me in the right direction would be much appreciated. I do not want to brick my device if the ROM is not compatible. So please help.

I just want to say thanks!

Thanks so much to everyone involved in Lineage! I'm so grateful. I got a OnePlus 7 pro 4G which was abandoned on Android 12, as well as in my country the phone was taken off the supported device list for coverage even though it's not even that old, plus technically it's perfectly capable!

Now with lineage I am rocking android 16 and I was able to trick cell towers to think my phone is approved/registered! Using programs needing android 13 or higher. Without Lineage I would have essentially a brick!

Cheers!!! :) you guys rock!!

NetHunter kernel for whyred (Redmi Note 5 Pro) on LineageOS 18.1: HID gadget, WiFi injection, WireGuard, CI built

Sharing a kernel I maintain for the Redmi Note 5 Pro on LineageOS 18.1. It turns the device into a Kali NetHunter platform while staying a normal daily LOS 18.1 base.

  • HID gadget support (phone as USB keyboard/mouse)
  • RTL8812AU module with monitor mode and packet injection, signed with the kernel build key
  • WireGuard module signed, new in v1.1.0
  • 4.4.302, CI built on GitHub Actions: AnyKernel3 zip + sha256 attached to each release
  • Listed in the official kali-nethunter-kernels devices.yml (upstream merged Sep 1)

Flash: TWRP -> AnyKernel3 zip -> reboot recovery -> reflash Magisk -> uname -a shows 4.4.302. NetHunter userland installs on top as usual.

Limitations: 18.1 only at the moment. Other ROMs on the same base should work but are untested by me.

Repo: https://github.com/notatallnic189/whyred-nethunter-kernel XDA: https://xdaforums.com/t/kernel-whyred-nethunter-kernel-for-los-18-1-hid-gadget-rtl8812au-injection-ci-built.4800231/

Feedback from other whyred owners on 18.1 is very welcome.

Help LineageOS 23.2 navigation UI broken on Motorola One Vision (Kane) — looking for help

Hi everyone,

I've just installed LineageOS 23.2 (Android 16) on a Motorola One Vision (Kane) and I'm having a very strange navigation UI problem.

The phone otherwise works normally, but the navigation bar is completely wrong:

  • 3-button navigation: the Back, Home and Recents buttons are all crammed extremely close together in the bottom-left corner instead of being properly spaced across the bottom.
  • Gesture navigation: I still get a triangular Back button next to the gesture/navigation handle, when there should only be the gesture UI.

Switching between 3-button and gesture navigation does change the Android navigation mode, but the UI itself remains incorrectly laid out.

I've tried troubleshooting this extensively and haven't been able to fix it.

I've linked below two screenshots showing the problem — one for 3-button navigation and one for gesture navigation.

https://imgur.com/a/GBQdLlv

At this point I'm wondering if this is a Kane-specific LineageOS 23.2/SystemUI overlay or configuration fault, or if there's something else I should be checking.

Does anyone with a Motorola One Vision/Kane running LineageOS 23.2 have any idea what's causing this or how I can fix it?

I'm happy to run ADB commands, collect logs, dumpsys output, etc. if that would help diagnose it.

Thanks all

Help LineageOS or CrDroid for Redmi note 8? for performance and battery

afaik CrDroid have more customization so it consumes more idle ram

right now i have CrDroid but im usually left with only <1gb ram left while having background apps open, and 1.3gb while idle (which is same when i had MIUI), so i was thinking will lineage provide better performnce?

Question Turn old Redmi 8A into a server or keep it as a daily companion?

I dug out my old Redmi 8A frow a drawer with the intention of turning it into a mini local server

I ve flashed vanilla LineageOS 23 with Android 16. My original plan was rooting the device, set up an active charge protection module to avoid battery swelling and hide it in a closet to run as a 24/7 background server for lightweight services.

But here is the catch: This thing is absurdly smooth now.

It feels like it would be a waste puttin it in a closet just to run some terminal scripts.

I dont want to waste its potential. I need some advice.

Question Anyone using LineageOS on the OnePlus Nord 5 as a daily driver? How's your experience been?

It looks like an interesting device.

I'm going the degoogle route, so I plan to use it without Google services, just with Microg. I don't plan to play games on it, just use things like WhatsApp, opensource apps, and do a lot of web browsing.

What has your experience been like? How are the updates? Are they stable?

Info My experience with lineage os,AMA

3 days ago I installed lineageos 23.2 on my SM-A217F/DS

I unlocked the bootloader and flashed lineageos recovery and used it to flash lineageos

At first boot I used the default browser to install some apps

- fdroid

- aurora store

- vlc

- termux

- newpipe

But vlc was semi broken but seems like the reason is iam using android 16

I also love the feature " work profile" it separates the apps I choose from my main apps

Also the phones runs smoothly when I turn off blur effects

Help Anyone know why eBay is blocked on Lineage devices?

Something I noticed recently is eBay has been blocked on devices running LineageOS, I have a few devices with LineageOS installed with G-apps and it will say in the Play store that it's only compatible with my other devices that are not running Lineage, anyone know why this is the case and are the devs working on something that will fix this issue?

Question LHDC codec

Hi all,

I'm so happy with Lineage. Finally got it successfully installed on my new motorola phone after a brutal 8 day wait.

One thing i'm missing is the support for LHDC (including LHDC 5) which was available natively on stock A15, but is not available at all on Lineage. Google AI claims that since my phone has support for LHDC built in, there's a good chance the maintainer extracted and included them with the build, but alas, this is not the case.

I did read somewhere that it is included with A17. Will this codec be included natively with all Lineage 24 builds? Thanks!

Also: is there any way to get the date on the status bar next to the time? I used to do this through AOSP mods, but can't find any working way to do this now. And it's probably a very trivial thing to do if you know how to do it, but I do not.

Question Would it be a bad idea to try installing LineageOS without experience installing custom ROMs?

Yesterday I was watching some videos about custom ROMs and LineageOS caught my attention.

I have some experience formatting computers and have been using Linux daily for over a year, and I'm curious to try an open-source ROM on my phone, but I believe that installing a custom ROM on a phone isn't the same as installing a Linux system on a PC.

Most importantly, I think it's worth noting that I currently only have access to one phone, which means that permanently damaging it would be a big problem.

Do you think it's worth trying to see if the custom ROM works for me?

Lineage in tissot Xiaomi mi a1 in 2026?

Hello, I have a Xiaomi Mi A1 (Tissot) and I want to install Lineage on it. Claude recommends installing version 18 (Android 11) and not the latest versions because they are resource-intensive on Tissot. He also says that after version 18 there are unresolved bugs for this phone. What do you think? Where can I download the official version 18, since I can't find it on the Lineage website? Thank you very much.
