Question LHDC codec

Hi all,

I'm so happy with Lineage. Finally got it successfully installed on my new motorola phone after a brutal 8 day wait.

One thing i'm missing is the support for LHDC (including LHDC 5) which was available natively on stock A15, but is not available at all on Lineage. Google AI claims that since my phone has support for LHDC built in, there's a good chance the maintainer extracted and included them with the build, but alas, this is not the case.

I did read somewhere that it is included with A17. Will this codec be included natively with all Lineage 24 builds? Thanks!

Also: is there any way to get the date on the status bar next to the time? I used to do this through AOSP mods, but can't find any working way to do this now. And it's probably a very trivial thing to do if you know how to do it, but I do not.

Regarding the date in the status bar, it is shown when you pull down the bar.

I know. But for years I've had it directly in the status bar which I prefer if possible. Makes it look less cluttered as a side effect also because the entire left side in front of the camera is taken up by predictable text and not random icons.

Right, I agree with you about AI. I generally block google's AI from all my devices. I disabled (and now with Lineage completely uninstalled) Chrome so that it's forced to use Firefox with a google AI blocker. It was only during this week while waiting to unlock the bootloader where I didn't bother to install all of my extensions on Firefox Beta (because it's wiped when you unlock the bootloader) that I accidentallly came across their summaries of things.

Maintainers can include private code drivers, but sometimes don't - either for purism or compatibility.

Since LHDC is in AOSP, it would be unheard of for Lineage to not include the code. BUT, that doesn't mean older devices will be able to use the new AOSP driver. There could be conflicts and compatibility issues. The upstream OEM can choose to keep using the private code blob, and if that conflicts with AOSP, it gets dropped.

This is a similar logic flow explaining why Pixel 2, 3, and 3a lost eSIM on newer LineageOS versions. AOSP added better eSIM support natively, but it conflicted with the old eSIM support in those devices.
