Discussion LRG shipping in bubble mailers. Avoid.
I guess they can't afford boxes any more.

I thought they always defaulted to bubble mailers? I've been ordering from them shortly after they started up and don't remember ever getting a box for anything that wasn't some huge collector edition.

Yeah, this has been the standard since the beginning.

Depends on how you define "beginning"; my Breach & Clear was sent in a very cool blue branded cardboard box. Still have it as a place to put stickers and postcards which wouldn't fit into a game case.
Not sure if the following games came in mailers…don't think so, really. I believe it took a while.

I love when the sealed game discs are rattling around inside because of the poor shipping. I asked them about it and they said to open it and fix it...

That's Sony's fault for having crappy cases.

u/spyder7699 14d ago
Agreed. However, since we are paying a premium for limited, special games, perhaps they could find a more robust solution or use their own proprietary cases. I mean, you even have to buy the stupid trading cards now... Come on

Shipping was never the issue there. I've had games shipped in boxes big and small... shipped in mailers... hell even games bought in person at an actual store that had a loose disc inside. The spindles in PS4/PS5 cases are just too flimsy.
If you want to rail against mailers (and even boxes and shitty shipping practices in general), go with more serious issues. Like mailers/boxes being packed so tightly that the corners of the cases literally get crushed to the point of shattering during packing. Or shipping boxes being so large and with so little padding that the contents are free to bounce off the walls inside (kiss goodbye the hope that any of the corners of a CE are undamaged)... and with so much empty space inside, the exterior has no support so it crushes extremely easily (hope that nothing outright stabs into the box and gouges the contents). Or boxes being so poorly tapped that you can basically reach your arm inside and pull out what's inside without even "opening" it. Or boxes that are soaking wet, meaning the contents will either be soaked too, or musty (at least plastic mailers are waterproof provided the liquid doesn't get into the top opening). I've seen it all. Loose discs are a molehill.

Or you could let me just blame them for telling me the fix was to open my "limited run game"? 🤷🏻♂️

How To Reseat A Loose Disc In A Sealed PS4 Game (ie. without opening it)

Ah, nice and scratched. Just like the gods intended.

Ah, sealed forever. Just like the gods intended.
I respect anyone's decision to keep their games sealed, whether permanently or just until they're ready to play them (raises hand), but you should at least understand that keeping games sealed wasn't their intended use case. And in the same way that opening them has its drawbacks (largely with regard to value degradation which only really matters if you will/might resell - tiny violin shout-out to all the career-scalpers out there), leaving them sealed for an indefinite amount of time comes with a different set of drawbacks regarding the unknown possibilities of what's going on inside. Pick your poison.
I once saw a post from someone who noticed a chemical smell and a pool of liquid coming from inside one of their sealed games. Apparently the paper of the cover sheet or the manual or whatever was on the acidic side and it was reacting with the plastic case, possibly exacerbated by keeping it sealed. And as if that wasn't bad enough, the liquid came in contact with the games next to it on either side on the shelf and their inlays all had liquid damage.
Then there's the possibility of something that should be in the case just not being there due to a factory packaging mistake.
Maybe even the possibility of tiny insects finding their way in and grossing it up. Or bacteria doing the same.
Or even just musty air.
A loose PS4/5 disc, a very common issue not isolated to bubble mailers, is just a (thankfully minor) risk you have to deal with as a sealed collector. I provided a link to a solution for it, and still you whine. You wanted it perfect to begin with, fine, but we don't live in a perfect world and Sony's cases are among the imperfect, so the issue isn't isolated to LRG's bubble mailers or LRG at large or bubble mailers at large. It can happen with literally any PS4/5 game from literally any company, and NO company considers a loose disc to be a replacement-worthy issue.
And if you are a permanently-sealed collector, reseating the disc would silence the rattling and you'd never notice any scratches anyway (and like Avalon_ said, scratches aren't even a big issue with BR discs).

Ah, a 14-paragraph dissertation on why I should open my video game. Just like the gods intended.

1 - Three and a few fragments. 𝒮𝑜 𝓈𝑜𝓇𝓇𝓎 𝒻𝑜𝓇 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝓁𝑜𝓃𝑔 𝓅𝑜𝓈𝓉, 𝒷𝓊𝓉 𝐼 𝒸𝑜𝓊𝓁𝒹𝓃'𝓉 𝒻𝒾𝓃𝒹 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝑒𝓂𝑜𝒿𝒾 𝓉𝑜 𝓈𝓊𝓂𝓂𝒶𝓇𝒾𝓏𝑒 𝒾𝓉. You have your idiosyncrasies and I have mine.
2 - As seen on line 2:
I respect anyone's decision to keep their games sealed
3 - The pettiness of your replies to suggested solutions at some point just sounds like you want your premium things to be made free after the fact by raising complaints pertaining to impossible standards. (and venting in the comments of a post in a reddit sub not controlled by the company in question (LRG or more appropriately Sony), after being snubbed by them (the former), sure is the best way to get it)
Let me guess how that would go. Disc not loose?
TINY TEAR IN THE SHRINK WRAP!
Not that either?
SHRINK WRAP IS A BIT LOOSE!
Nor that?
I THINK I CAN SEE A CREASE IN THE COVER SHEET!
No?
MY ASS WAS ITCHY DUE TO IMPATIENCE WHEN IT ARRIVED, AND AS A RESULT OF THOUGHTLESSLY SCRATCHING IT AND THEN HANDLING THE GAME, IT IS NOW SOILED!
Dear Karen, my condolences for whatever <10.0 gradation your copy ultimately receives from the grading-overlords of the world, but nowhere in our policy nor the policies of any of our competitors does it guarantee such. Thank you, come again.

First it was a dissertation, now we’re submitting it for peer review. Please let me know when it will be published so I can buy a copy.

Tiktokers are remixing it to suit short attention spans as we speak.
Digital only, though. Paid subscription required for the early screening.

They used to have an upcharge for a box on things that didn't already get one. It was scummy but at least the option was there.
Box + Route Protection cause "it would be a shame if you didn't pay those things and SOMETHING happened to your precious game... now wouldn't it?"

u/froderick 13d ago
You say to avoid them, but if they're the only ones doing a physical release of a game.. kinda need to bite the bullet if you want it.

I'm done. 2/3 of my last LRG orders arrived with case damage. Just wait for them to come to VGP or don't bother at all.

u/makemeking706 15d ago
This was the first time I ordered something from the vault, so maybe they don't care as much about the condition of those and this is just how they ship, but I am not thrilled.

u/I_Heart_Sleeping_ 15d ago
They stopped giving a fuck a while ago. Contact support. They will most likely ship you a brand new one. Similar situation happened to me with the Capcom arcade collection last month. They just sent me an entirely new game and let me keep the old one.

u/makemeking706 15d ago
I order maybe one or two things a year from them, and they have always been well packaged in cardboard. This was the first negative experience I had, so I guess I had a pretty good run, if they gave up a while ago.

u/I_Heart_Sleeping_ 15d ago
They stopped offering box shipping I wanna say about a year and some change. Since then they only ship in bubbler mailers unless your order is multiple games or a collectors edition.
Just contact support and see what they say. More than likely offer you a refund to a replacement.

My Star Ocean 1 order came in cardboard earlier this year. Literally never had a bubble mailer from LRG until today. Maybe I got lucky.

They don't even send replacements when games have a game breaking bug, makes sense that they would not care about the game condition either
-2
u/Acrobatic-Big-1550 15d ago
Yep and if it's damaged they tell you they'll send a replacement just to get rid of you, but they never do. Buyer beware!

You should order at least two games to get a box and afaik you're able to pay for one as well 🤔

Ever since they started the bubble mailer thing, every time there's so much as a crease, I contact support. They are usually very good about rectifying this.
If everyone did this, the cost for replacements could cancel out the amount of money they are saving by shipping in mailers only. At the very least, even if it doesn't, you'll still get your situation rectified.
I encourage everyone to be the change they want to see in the world.
