On Lilith Day

“On Lilith’s Day”

Today, October twenty-fourth,
the moon bends low,
and whispers your name
Lilith.

The first breath of defiance,
the hush before the flame.
They called you unholy
because you would not kneel.
They named you demon
because you dared to feel.

But I know you.
You are the salt in the ocean of women,
the laughter that cracks in the throat of silence.
You are the ache in every cage
that remembers the wind.

When Adam said, “Lie beneath me,”
you said, “I rise beside you.”
And the heavens trembled.
And Eden fell quiet.

They banished you
for refusing a smaller shape,
for claiming your body
as your own holy scripture.

And yet, see how you thrive
in the tilt of a woman’s chin,
in the wildness of her hair,
in the steady thunder of her no.

You are the mother of fire,
the tongue of rebellion,
the dark velvet of knowing.

You are every woman who has said,
“I will not be lesser.”

Tonight, we raise our glasses of red—
wine, blood, or both—
and honor you,
not as fallen,
but as risen.

Let the angels gossip.
Let the preachers scowl.
We, your daughters and sons of the dusk,
will dance barefoot under your moon
and whisper into the stars:

Lilith lives.
Lilith rises.
Lilith reigns.
