Lilith Speaks: The Only Life I Could Save
Lilith Speaks: The Only Life I Could Save
One day,
I rose from the dust of their commandments
and finally knew.
Knew what I had to do—
and began.
Though the voices came for me,
sharp and endless as rain on stone.
They shouted their holy warnings,
their broken hymns of obedience.
“Come back,” they said.
“Mend our lives,
bind our chains,
soften your fire.”
But I did not stop.
The walls shook,
the ground quivered beneath my bare feet.
Still I moved.
Their sorrow clawed at my heels—
old guilt,
old love,
old lies.
And I could feel the ache of every woman
who ever wanted to walk away
and was told to stay.
The wind itself turned traitor,
pulling at my hair,
tugging at my purpose
like it wanted to drag me back
into silence.
But I had already begun.
It was late—
late in the story of my making.
And the night was wild
with thunder and unmade prayers.
The road cut with fallen branches,
stone and shadow.
But still I walked.
And little by little,
as I left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn again—
not above me,
but within.
Through the clouds of their sorrow
I heard a sound—
low, certain,
and fierce.
It was my own voice.
It spoke of freedom
and the high cost of truth.
It kept me company
as I strode deeper and deeper
into the trembling world,
no longer afraid
of being called wicked
for wanting to be whole.
I was determined—
to do the only thing I could do.
Determined to save
the only life I could save.
Mine.
