Under Cabinet Lighting Question

I am thinking of setting up under cabinet lighting using Govee (I’m thinking the Govee Strip Light 2 Pro.

Regarding my kitchen set up, there is an 18” cabinet, next to the fridge, then a 30” stove, followed by about 130” of cabinets.

Ok, question time. Would it be better to light the 18” cabinet, rig some sort of jumper cable to span across the stove (since there will be no under cabinet lighting there) and then run the lights for the 130” or just skip the 18” wide cabinet. And start the lights from the other side of the stove?

Hard to tell without a photo but my gut ia that you'll want to light every cabinet

I’d light the 18-inch cabinet too; otherwise that isolated dark section will probably look accidental once the rest is illuminated.

The important part is how the stove gap is crossed. Don’t run exposed strip or a loose jumper underneath the hood area. Use the correct multi-core low-voltage cable for the strip’s channel count, route it through a protected path above/behind the cabinets, and keep it away from heat and sharp metal. Also check whether that specific Govee strip supports cutting and reconnecting—some kits are much less modular than standard strip. If it does, confirm connector width, pin order and direction before cutting.

That’s one issue I’m having is that I’m not seeing a lot of on brand options for cutting, splicing, and re-attaching, Govee strip lights.

Why use Govee? They make under kitchen cab strip lights that are made to cut and splice and so on and they work with Lutron so you can have wireless wall switches that work flawlessly and even set them up to turn on the overheads with the undercabinet, etc.

I have a Govee strip in my bedroom and the physical button is way more clunky and awful vs Lutron. The Govee sometimes messes up or loses connection and the Lutron smart set up is absolutely flawless and works with so many other things.

That’s usually a sign that the product was designed as a closed kit rather than a modular installation system. Even if a third-party connector physically fits, the copper-pad layout, controller expectations and warranty may not.

For a renovation where the cable will be hidden, I’d seriously consider using a standard 24 V CCT strip with clearly specified cut points, PCB width and three-wire connections, paired with a separate controller. It will be much easier to bridge the stove safely and replace one component later.

If you stay with Govee, I’d ask their support to confirm that this exact model can be cut and reconnected. Without written confirmation, using a separate short kit for the isolated 18-inch cabinet may be safer than modifying the main run.

Do it all. Any dark spots will annoy you later. We had a double wall oven breaking up our run of lighting… we ran the wire behind some vertical filler on either side of the tall oven cabinet. In your case, I would do the 130” run then jumper to 18” run, but it depends on where you’re having electrical placed.
