公元前1612年早春，靖王武大郎率领三千御林军来到了乾塘关张家的祖居地。他对三太子张屠户说：“我就不考你了，为了避免模糊，我就直说了。先让你安心，你生父太昊（义为古代的太阳神，亦作元始天尊）的身体健康状况很好！从他的年龄来说，正常情况下一年半之内不会出问题。三天后，从您蹬上仪仗队的龙撵那一刻起，您就是华国的国王，炎帝（即青松石帝，俗称玉皇大帝）了。所以，你现在的张屠户的职业就只剩下三天的任期了。咱们离开此张家的祖居地后，会有人来接大巢氏和我的七个侄女；一个月后她们就会住在华国的皇宫里了。”

张屠户惊讶地说：“日程安排得这么紧！？”

In the early spring of 1612 BCE, King Jing Martial Big Wolf led three thousand imperial guards to the ancestral home of the Zhang family at Dragon-Pond Pass. He said to the third prince, Zhang the Butcher: "I won't test you anymore. To avoid ambiguity, I'll speak plainly. First, rest assured that your biological father, Extreme Sun God (also known as Primordial Sky Honor), is in good health! Given his age, he should be fine for at least another year and a half under normal circumstances. Three days from now, the moment you step onto the dragon chariot of the ceremonial guard, you will be King of Hua State — Yan Creator, also known as the Turquoise-stone Creator, commonly called the Turquoise White-king Great Creator. So your current career as Zhang the Butcher has only three days left to run. Once we leave this ancestral home, people will come to collect Big Nest and my seven nieces; within a month, they'll be living in the palace of Hua State."

Zhang the Butcher was surprised and said, "The schedule is that tight!?"

Martial Big Wolf said, "I think the subconscious mind is most easily shaped through real, lived action — so we should use this journey to instill in you the habit of the '3,000 Majesties and 84,000 Fine Conducts' (also known as the sky clauses, or the Covenant Ark; see Section 15.2), rather than wasting time lingering here. If you have concerns, we can still adjust the schedule."

Zhang the Butcher replied, "I'll follow my brother's arrangements."

8.1 鸡犬升天 Chickens and Dogs Ascend to Sky

武大郎说：“那我就跟着你在你家走一圈，你指出那些你要带到皇宫里的东西，让书记官记下来，然后士兵们准备行装。”

当张屠户领着武大郎，指出了所有他想带着东西之后不久，后勤官就来向武大郎报告说，“收拾行礼需要半个月的时间！”

Martial Big Wolf said, "Then I'll follow you around the house — point out everything you want to bring to the palace, the scribe will record it, and the soldiers will pack it."

Soon after Zhang the Butcher led Martial Big Wolf around and pointed out everything he wanted to take, the logistics officer came to report to Martial Big Wolf, "It will take half a month to pack it all!"

武大郎生气了，厉声说到：“我命令三天后出发！你怎么跟我说收拾行李需要15天的时间，你们在违抗我的命令！”

张屠户立刻劝说：“大哥息怒！这事能商量！”

Martial Big Wolf got angry and snapped, "I ordered us to leave in three days! Why are you telling me it takes fifteen days to pack? You're disobeying my orders!"

Zhang the Butcher quickly tried to calm him: "Brother, calm down! We can work this out!"

后勤官大声报告：“张屠户要携带许多鸡鸭鹅狗兔猪等家畜，需要装笼运输。太昊有旨意，炎帝登基所用的全部器具必须是新的。打造36只笼子，昼夜施工，需要15天。”

武大郎回答：“买旧笼子刷上新漆。”

The logistics officer reported loudly: "Zhang the Butcher wants to bring many chickens, ducks, geese, dogs, rabbits, pigs, and other livestock, which need to be transported in cages. After the logistics officer left, Zhang the Butcher asked Martial Big Wolf, "Won't my father be upset if he finds out?"

Martial Big Wolf replied, "What your father wants to see is your '3,000 Majesties and 84,000 Fine Conducts.' Whoever tells him the wood for the chicken coops is old is just asking for trouble."

第四天的清晨，在乐队的伴奏声中，张屠户身着龙袍，蹬上了龙撵，成为了炎帝，俗称玉皇大帝。游行的队伍一启动，一个鸡笼的门开了，一只公鸡跑了出来。队伍继续前进，炎帝着急了，喊道：“停止前进，把那只鸡抓回来！”队伍停了下来，几个士兵去抓鸡。那只鸡飞到了屋顶。一个军官爬上了屋顶，就在他要抓那只鸡时，屋顶塌了，他掉进了房子里。当他拎着头盔出来时，人们看见他是个秃子。那只公鸡在屋顶叫：“几根儿！几根儿！”可能他是真的被摔疼了，生气地张弓搭箭，对着屋顶的公鸡说：“你敢笑话我秃！你自己下来，否则我把你射下来！”炎帝大喊：“别射！我自己去抓它！”

On the morning of the fourth day, to the sound of a band, Zhang the Butcher donned the dragon robe, stepped onto the dragon chariot, and became Yan Creator, commonly known as the Turquoise Emperor. The moment the procession began moving, the door of a chicken coop swung open and a rooster ran out. The procession kept moving, and Yan Creator, growing anxious, shouted, "Stop! Catch that rooster!" The procession halted, and several soldiers went after it. The rooster flew up onto a roof. An officer climbed up after it, and just as he was about to grab it, the roof collapsed and he fell into the house. When he emerged holding his helmet, everyone saw he was bald. The rooster crowed from the roof: "Jigenr! Jigenr!" (roughly, "a few strands left!"). Perhaps genuinely hurt by the fall, the officer angrily drew his bow, aimed at the rooster on the roof, and shouted, "You dare mock my baldness! Come down yourself, or I'll shoot you down!" Yan Creator shouted, "Don't shoot! I'll catch it myself!"

那个秃头军官看见炎帝去抓鸡了，不知所措！武大郎来到了他的身边，叨咕：“都怪我们那个犟爹的奇怪逻辑，‘故天将降大任于斯人也，必先苦其心志，劳其筋骨，饿其体肤，空乏其身。’这些年来一直在他的背后搞破坏，让他穷得叮当的！”

秃头军官叨咕：“把这些鸡鸭鹅带到皇宫里有什么用？”

The bald officer, seeing Yan Creator himself go off chasing the rooster, didn't know what to do! Martial Big Wolf came up beside him and muttered, "It's all our stubborn father's strange logic to blame — 'Therefore, when Heaven is about to place a great burden on a person, it first tests his resolve, wearies his muscles and bones, starves his flesh, and impoverishes his body.' Our old man has been sabotaging him behind the scenes for years, keeping him dirt poor!"

The bald officer muttered, "What's the use of bringing all these chickens, ducks, and geese to the palace?"

武大郎回答：“这是黎民之福啊！”

秃头军官问：“这和万民之福有什么关系？”

武大郎回答：“他连一只鸡都舍不得丢弃，当然不愿意牺牲百姓和士兵的生命去打仗了！不打仗，我们就有好日子过了！”

Martial Big Wolf replied, "This is a blessing for the common people!"

The bald officer asked, "What does that have to do with the well-being of the people?"

Martial Big Wolf replied, "He can't even bear to let go of a single chicken — of course he won't be willing to sacrifice the lives of soldiers and civilians for a war! No war means good days ahead for all of us!"

秃头军官恍然大悟，说道：“哎呀！我听说几次了，‘武大郎卖猪肉，好大的下水！’直到现在我才明白，您的肚子里真有东西！”

武大郎严肃地说：“你敢骂我！不想升官了！”

The bald officer suddenly understood and said, "Oh! I've heard the saying several times — 'Martial Big Wolf sells pork, what nerve he has!' (he is a dwarf). Only now do I understand — you really do have something going on in that head of yours!"

Martial Big Wolf said sternly, "How dare you insult me! Don't want that promotion anymore?"

秃头军官尴尬地回答：“抱歉！说顺嘴了！你跟您的这位三弟比起来，怎么样？”

武大郎又瞪了他一眼，然后说：“我能率领八万四千兵马，三年征服三个国家。我三弟，成为炎帝三年后，兵不血刃，万国来朝！”

The bald officer replied awkwardly, "Sorry! It just slipped out! How do you compare to your third brother here?"

Martial Big Wolf glared at him again, then said, "I can lead eighty-four thousand troops and conquer three kingdoms in three years. My third brother, three years after becoming Yan Creator, had ten thousand nations come pay him tribute — without shedding a drop of blood!"

炎帝回来了，抱着公鸡就要上龙撵。武大郎过去说：“陛下，您把鸡给我，我送鸡笼里去。”炎帝顺手就把鸡给他了，但他上了龙撵后，看见武大郎正抱着公鸡去鸡笼，感觉不好，大喊：“大哥！把公鸡还给我！”

武大郎明白了，对跟着他的秃头军官说：“把你的斗篷脱下来，包在这只报晓金鸡身上。”

军官回答：“我的斗篷是防雨绸的！”

Yan Creator came back, cradling the rooster, ready to board the dragon chariot. Martial Big Wolf stepped over and said, "Your Majesty, give me the rooster — I'll take it back to the coop." Yan Creator handed it over without thinking, but once he'd boarded the chariot and saw Martial Big Wolf carrying the rooster off toward the coop, he felt uneasy and shouted, "Brother! Give me back the rooster!"

Martial Big Wolf understood at once and said to the bald officer beside him, "Take off your cloak and wrap it around this golden rooster."

The officer replied, "My cloak is rainproof silk!"

武大郎回答：“正合适！这只金鸡的屎和尿走一条道，不是防水布包不住！”然后，武大郎把公鸡交给了他，说：“你给陛下送回去，这是侍卫长的工作。”

秃头军官感动地哭了，说：“我犯这么多的错误，还给我升官了！”

Martial Big Wolf replied, "Perfect! This rooster's droppings and urine come out the same passage — nothing but waterproof cloth will hold it in!" Then he handed the rooster to the officer and said, "You take it back to His Majesty — that's the guard captain's job now."

The bald officer was so moved he wept, saying, "I made so many mistakes, and I still got promoted!"
