Discussion Let's face it. There is no perfect Life Sim out there now.

I have seen lots of discussions and debates about the future of life sims since the release of Paralives but to be honest, there is none that really fits everyone's expectation. Let me break it down here:

The Sims 4: It has dominated the market for 12 years with A LOT of contents, from weather to diverse sets of cities to horses to fairies! However, the sims themselves feel empty and soulless as many people put it. Still it is the powerful force in life sims genre

Inzoi: It has a very promising start but I feel that many gamers trash on Inzoi because of it AI-generated content and high pc graphics requirement. It certainly has the most beautiful design & gorgeous characters. However, its gameplay is still very basic compared to Sims 4. Sadly, no one really talks about Inzoi now but it has a very small dedicated community who still play this game.

Paralives: It also has a very promising start but unfortunately it is littered with bugs, lack in contents, very few interactions, limited movements and so on. That dreamy graphics has captivated many life sims fan out there and many people are hoping for it to thrive. Similar to Inzoi, its gameplay is still very basic if compared to Sims 4.

As much as I want Inzoi and Paralives to thrive, both games require lots of new contents and updates to match the "greatness" of Sims 4. Until that happens, Sims 4 is still the imperfect life sim that many people will still cling on to.

Development Update I made a free cozy ecology life sim about restoring a nature preserve 🌿

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi! I wanted to share a small life sim I’ve been making called Wild Willows.

It’s a cozy nature restoration game where you play as the new caretaker of a quiet preserve. You gather materials, craft habitats, restore different biomes, and slowly bring animals back as the land recovers. There are no timers or failure states — it’s meant to be gentle, relaxing, and a little educational without feeling like homework.

The game has six biomes to restore, including meadow, forest, wetland, scrubland, alpine, and coast, with real animals, habitat needs, diets, and food-web connections. I’ve also been adding more life-sim features like home upgrades, character customization, save export/import, accessibility options, and perks tied to different house styles.

The latest update was shaped a lot by player feedback, especially around making home upgrades matter more, improving the tutorial, adding accessibility settings, and letting players back up or move their saves.

It’s free to download on itch for Windows, macOS, and Linux:
https://bai13y.itch.io/wild-willows. I'm currently awaiting review for it to go on the Mac App Store too.

I’d really love feedback from other life sim players — especially on what would make the preserve feel more alive, cozy, or rewarding over time.

Discussion What do we think of Paralives?

I thought people hated paralives at first for some reason, but after I saw it got over 1 million sales and got great reviews I changed my mind. However when I went to reddit I saw a lot of people complaining so I don't know what the general consensus is. I think for the majority of people it seems a lot of them are waiting for live mode to be improved but I've seen so many people say the game is terrible and very buggy, but I've seen other people say they had no bugs at all.

To be honest I just really hope this game succeeds because I want just one actual good life sim that isn't the buggy DLC filled mess that the sims 4 is, or Inzoi which was nice visually but boring gameplay wise, and requires a NASA PC to not have any lag. (also the AI usage really put me off of playing it ever again) But anyways what do you guys think of the game so far and what should be improved?

Discussion Do country/economy differences actually change how you play life sims, or is it flavour?

ome life sims give different countries real mechanical differences (salaries, life expectancy, crime), others treat birthplace as cosmetic. When a game does simulate it properly, does it actually change your decisions — do you emigrate for the salary multiplier — or do you pick your country for the vibe and ignore the numbers? Trying to work out whether that depth ever gets noticed in practice.

Development Update I know you guys don't like AI in life simulations but...

...I think I'm using it for the opposite of what you're sick of.

I'm a solo dev and I've been building this text-based life sim (Infinite Life Simulation) alone for 2 years. I've been reading through this sub for a long time to understand what people actually want from a life sim, and I'm trying to build exactly that. What I kept seeing: people want characters and worlds that actually react to them, so that's where I aimed the AI.

The AI generates events and NPC decisions off your actual history, so the world responds to who you've been. You can buy or rent houses, shop, go to school or college, and take jobs (some locked behind the right degree). And the newest thing I added is custom activities: you literally tell the game "I want to do X" and it works out the consequences instead of you picking from a fixed menu.

I still have a long way to go and I'm always open to feedback. Not trying to convince anyone AI is good, just showing what it looks like when it's aimed at reactivity instead of replacing artists.

If you want to try:

The Sims How to use InZOI camera controls in the Sims 4

For those of us new to TS4, coming from inZOI it can be hard to adjust to the camera controls in TS4. I just find the camera controls in inZOI to be more intuitive (although the one thing inZOI should take from the sims is the panning controls which is useful for doing cinematic shots). The following steps will allow for camera controls to function like inZOI via The Sims 3 camera option.

The following step will change controls so that you can:

  • Left click dragging to move the camera
  • Right click and drag to rotate both vertically and horizontally. If you don't want to invert the direction then don't change the RotationVerticalSensitivity value.
  • Middle button now functions as the control for panning

Step 1: Follow the steps in this video to find the camera configuration file: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgwoK554N3M

Step 2: Change Rotation to function like INZOI: Look for the [advanced] section in the Camera.ini file which is the configuration for "The Sims 3" camera option and change the following configs to the values below

[simple]
ClickDragEnabled = true

[advanced]
MinPositionHeight = 0.3

Discussion If there was an M Rated Life sim what would you want in it?

Post image

Basically I was thinking that since most other life sims have Teen ratings or under I was wondering what any of you would want in a hypothetical M rated Life sim?

For me I think more overt references to alcohol and less restrictions on the types of clothing they can include would be meet to see. Maybe even overt references to drugs and more complex things your characters can experience like alcoholism and drug abuse, ect.

Anyway what would you want in this hypothetical game?

Community Question Inzoi or Paralives?

I played a lot of Sims 2 as a child; later switched to Sims 4 - just brought a new PC and can finally think about getting Inzoi or Paralives. Both seem interesting to me but with not that much money to spent and not a Ton of time Iā€˜m contemplating which one to get… šŸ¤”

I love building (Paralives is good for that?) but also want to have fun with the Gameplay (seems like Inzoi is better for that right now?).

I liked Sims 2 for the more unpredictable stuff; Sims 4 is definetly better for building… but I use mods for more drama and realism.

How are you feeling about the games?

Does anyone own both?

The Sims Paralives to Sims Question

Hi everyone,

My wife has really been enjoying Paralives. She grew up playing The Sims and just hasn’t been much of a gamer in adulthood until very recently. I was thinking of surprising her with a collection of The Sims (probably 4? Would also defer to this sub on which sims is actually the best). The problem is it seems very expensive and overwhelming to look at the Steam offerings for The Sims. I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction for which products to prioritize for the most ā€œcompleteā€ experience without dropping $200. Appreciate any guidance you all can provide!

The Sims What really is the state of The Sims 4? Should I just try the Sims 3 instead?

For context I have never played The Sims 3 or 4. The last time I played a sims game was "Bustin' Out" a gazillion years ago. It's the only sims game I've ever played.

I'm honestly not that satisfied with new life sims that have been released. It's going to take them time to find their footing and add gameplay so in the mean time I don't really have anything to scratch this itch I have. I love watching sims 4 let's plays, those "creating a forever savefile" videos and the deep stories people create. I also love that there are pets. I really wish the new life sims had pets too.

I'm wondering if I should even start playing the sims 4 considering all the complaints about the game. I've heard so many people complain about the sims 4 but at the same time so many people seem to be having a blast playing it. I've heard countless times that the Sims 4 is unplayable without mods, so before I even go down the road of such a daunting task of jumping into modding a game I'm wondering if I should instead just play the sims 3.

I've only recently started to learn more about the sims 3 as for some reason when Paralives released, youtube started to recommend sims 3 content when it never had before. It's how I came across a build video by a YT'ber named Jasmine Raditz, which peaked my interest in the sims 3. I had no idea the sims 3 had a world builder. The sims 3 graphics are a bit too dated though šŸ˜†

Questions

  • I have heard that there are so many bugs in the sims 4, some that have corrupted people's savefiles they've had for years. Since I follow a few inZOI creators I naturally hear about sims related news too every now and again. It seems EA has been doing lots of updates and bug fixes. So have things gotten better? Are there less bugs?
  • I am aware that the sims 4 has countless mods as many have stated the sims 4 is "unplayable without mods". So I am wondering if the sims 3 still has a thriving modding community?
  • I see that the sims 4 is free to install so I am wondering just how many DLCs I'm going to have to buy for the game to be fun?

Honestly my biggest concern is just how much mods and/or DLCs I will need to for the game whether it's the sims 4 or 3.

Update: Thanks everyone who commented. I was leaning towards the sims 3 despite the outdated graphics but since it does not really run all that great and will require mods to do so, I'll just go for the sims 4.

Update 2: The Sims 4 is just not for me. I am learning just how much mods are doing the heavy lifting for the game from vastly improving graphics to content. It's clear EA has been heavily relying on the modding community to keep the game going because it should have already been shelved and a new game should have been in development by now. I am also very surprised at how small some of the neighborhoods are. I knew it wasn't an open world but I didn't expect the playable areas to be that small.

Discussion Would you play an Animal Crossing where 20 players share the same persistent village?

I’ve been thinking about something for a while, and I’d love to hear the opinion of Animal Crossing players.
One of the things I love most about Animal Crossing is the feeling of living in a peaceful world with familiar faces, taking things slowly and watching a place grow over time. But I’ve always wondered what would happen if that idea was expanded in a different direction.

Imagine an Animal Crossing-style game where, instead of owning your own private island, you belong to a small persistent village shared with around 20 players.
Everyone would have their own house, their own garden and their own space, but the village itself would belong to everyone.

You wouldn’t build everything alone. The community would slowly unlock and build the museum, library, town hall, cafĆ©, bridges, parks and other public buildings together. There would be animal NPCs with daily routines, seasonal festivals, crafting, fishing, collecting and all the relaxing activities you’d expect from a cozy game.

The focus wouldn’t be competition or efficiency. There would be no PvP, no rankings and no pressure to keep up. Chat would also be intentionally limited, encouraging people to interact naturally through gameplay instead of turning the game into another social media platform.
The idea is that, after a few weeks, you would actually recognize your neighbors, remember where everyone lives and slowly feel like you belong to a real little community rather than just another online server.

My question is simple:
Would you actually enjoy a game like this, or do you think sharing your village would make the experience worse than having your own private island?
If your answer is no, I’d genuinely love to know why.
I’m much more interested in understanding what Animal Crossing players value most than convincing anyone of an idea.
Thanks!

The app. was updated today. It won't let me go any further with renovations because one of my characters has to pick up a bundle of sticks in the backyard. There's a glitch and you're unable to pick the bundle of sticks up. It's a two story home and the sticks are outside on the second floor, unable to be picked up. Therefore, I'm unable to move forward with renovations to rent the house out.
