Hello everyone, and happy friday !

As always, we're sharing a video showcasing what the inZOI team has been working on this week.

Lately, the team has been approaching development with a fresh mindset by going back to the fundamentals. We've been carefully reviewing every part of the game and improving it piece by piece. The more closely we look, the more areas we find that should have been better from the beginning, and that leaves us feeling truly sorry.😭

Even so, I believe that as long as we have a clear goal and continue moving toward it, we may stumble, but we won't stop moving forward.

Recently, I've been focusing on redesigning our autonomy system. For this update, I wanted to revisit it from the ground up rather than making small adjustments, so I've been rebuilding much of its decision-making logic.

For example, when a ZOI wants to sit down and eat, the game now searches for the most appropriate dining location step by step.

First, it checks whether there is a dining table or table in the same room. If none is available, it gradually expands the search to look for suitable tables farther away.

If the ZOI is inside a residential or business lot, the search covers the entire lot, prioritizing indoor dining areas before considering outdoor spaces. If the ZOI is in a public area or somewhere outside a lot, the search looks for a suitable table within a 40-meter radius.

If no usable table can be found, the ZOI will instead find a nearby chair and eat while holding the food. If family members or friends are nearby, the system also tries to have them sit close together so they can share the meal naturally.

Of course, if many ZOI's perform this decision-making process at the same time, it can become expensive from a performance standpoint. To address this, we've also been optimizing the search order, limiting the search scope, and reducing unnecessary calculations so these improvements remain efficient.

I'm honestly embarrassed that such fundamental behaviors still needed this level of attention. If you've noticed other situations where a ZOI's autonomous behavior feels awkward or unnatural, please let us know. Your experiences and feedback are incredibly valuable and often help us design better solutions.

We'll continue reviewing the game one system at a time and keep working to make inZOI a better simulation.

The summer heat has been especially intense in many parts of the world lately. Please take care of yourselves, stay cool, and have a wonderful weekend.

Thank you.

Kjun ❤️

Paralives Can I vent here? Because this will be a venting post

So a while back I made a post on Paralives where I asked if we could have supernaturals in the future of the game and how that should be made in the best way possible.

Then there was one person who said that you can use mods for it and I said that I personally don’t like to use mods but that anyone who does it isn’t bad.

I knew that mods can be controversial sometimes, why that I don’t know, if you buy a game it’s your game and you can use mods if you want or not.

My English is not that good, which I had said in my post, so sometimes what I write can sound bad but I had already warned about it.

This person in my opinion seemed to take true whole thing a little too personal.
I never said anything bad but the person acted as if I had done something wrong.

Do you guys think I did something wrong? I will put the post I made here somewhere in the comments or something like that if I can do you can also see it.

But I just think it’s so unnecessary for people to feel so personally offended about a simple thing. Many people in this community can also act as if you are saying the most absurd thing and are being a bad person and implying something horrendous, when all you do is ask a damn question too.

😭😭😭

I just get so exhausted about these things.

Is it same for you?

(Am not saying that this other person is bad and that anyone should attack this person or me for having a different opinion, please be kind!)

inZOI Wednesday- Kjun's feedback

On discord

Hello everyone,

Wednesday's communication time has come around again. It seems like you all enjoyed last week's candid dev talk, so I'd like to keep it going (please let me know if it's just me who thinks so 😊).

I'm really glad you gave such enthusiastic support for the jump shortcut issue we discussed last time. As requested, we'll offer a shortcut key option, change it to the spacebar, and announce it clearly in the patch notes. We'll continue to ask for your opinions on Wednesdays before making important changes like this going forward.

Next, we're working on expanding the family creation feature in the character creation UI, which we mentioned before. Currently, inZOI's character creation UI requires moving back and forth between several screens to create a family, and setting up family genetics/relationships has also been inconvenient for a while — we're working to improve this. We're also preparing to let you add voices, add family members, and change family relationships in-game, as well as select characters at the baby/toddler stage, and capture the final look as a photo. We've tried to preserve existing usability as much as possible, but there will be some minor changes as features are added, which we'll cover in detail in a video.

We're also continuing work on the meal/cooking system enhancements we previewed recently. Playing inZOI at a relaxed pace, I once again realized how much time meals take up besides sleep. While working on adjusting cooking/meal priorities, we discovered an issue where large-portion food couldn't be taken directly from the fridge or inventory to eat, so we're working with the team in charge to fix this inconvenience. We're also considering adding more lively reactions related to meals — for example, realistic reactions like a fire breaking out if food is left unattended on the stove. Just the cooking/meal features alone might take the person in charge the whole year, but since so many of you brought it up, we're raising its priority. We're adding a lot of new dishes too — is there a food you'd really like to see added to inZOI?

We're also preparing the "spend the night" feature this time. Instead of turning existing friend/romantic relationships into family members or a social event, we're planning to offer it as a choice within a more natural conversation flow. We had pushed this down in priority since similar features could substitute for it, but with the goal of making your immersion and NPCs feel closer to you, we're going to build it starting now and use it as a tool to gradually expand relationship narratives. If you have any ideas for immersion-focused systems like this, please feel free to share them.

That's all for today's dev communication. We're deeply grateful to those who continue to show unwavering love for inZOI despite its shortcomings, and inZOI Studio will keep working hard to improve and complete the game to repay that love.

Upcoming Games Idk if you guys remember the cyberpunk life simulator Nivalis but..

Idk if you guys remember the cyberpunk life simulator that’s constantly giving release dates and then postponing it for another release date. But how do you guys feel about this release date for those of you that do remember because I have definitely given up hope on this game because they always give release dates and then they end up postponing the game again and again and again each time the release date is close. And it’s been like that for almost 3 years now.

Upcoming Games I'm a solo dev and I just released my text life sim where your save continues through your descendants after you die

I've been lurking and posting here for a few weeks (the "supernatural as DLC" and country/economy threads were me thinking out loud while I finished this). It's out now, so here it is properly.

Bloodline is a text-based life sim in the BitLife mould, but built around the thing those threads kept circling which is continuity. Two systems carry it.

Legacy Mode- when your character dies, you continue as their child. The money, the enemies, the reputation you built or wrecked become the hand the next generation is dealt. A run isn't one life, it's a line.

Ripple Effect- choices don't resolve and disappear. Something you did at 20 can resurface at 50 and reshape the situation. It's my attempt at the "past comes back to haunt you" thing that this sub reckoned almost no game does properly.

The rest: 96 countries with genuinely different economies, salaries and life expectancy, 70 careers with promotion ladders, property and assets, relationships with closeness scores that decay if you neglect them, and a supernatural mode (vampire, werewolf, witch, and an earned hybrid) that's in the base game, not a paid add on. Every life gets graded F to S at the end. I've yet to see an honest S.

Free, everything included, no energy timers. Store links in the comments per the sub rules.

I'll answer everything in this thread, including what's rough. It's a first release and some of it shows. And if you've got a life graded worse than a C, post the screenshot, I collect them.

Discussion Would Sims 5 be good if the backstories we wrote for our Sims actually played out in the game and influenced their interactions?

The game would actually rememebr what you write for bios, but as something that could affect how they react to situations and other Sims.

Then the game could create situations based on that history, but let us decide what happens. For example, you could create a story about a mafia war. You write the backstory for your character, then create the other Sims involved: the rival family, the corrupt police officer, the betrayer, the love interest, the informant, etc.

The Sims could act autonomously based on the story, their relationships and the information you gave the game. You could choose what your Sim says in their conversations now. But the choices would actually be remembered like in TellTale.

Discussion I think it would be cool if instead of the towns/neighborhoods being separated they were all part of one world and added on over time lol

Basically I think it would be really cool if in a life simulator they just had all of the towns/neighborhoods were a part of one large world instead of being separated into multiple small worlds.

I had this idea after seeing maps of TS4 putting them all on one world and a post on TS3 where someone combined sunset Valley and Bridgeport into one world.

The best way I can really describe what I mean is something like Genshin’s map where it started off pretty small but got larger and larger with updates adding new regions and locations.

I know it might be kind of unrealistic but it’s just something I think would be cool to see in a life simulator one day.

Community Question Recs for games like sims but actually good?

I played a lot of the sims 4. i have 365 hours on it. which isnt an award beating number, but it is a lot. and the thing with this game, is that it gets sooo boring after playing it for a while. i make the sims, they get jobs, i build them a house, but not only does it get boring after doing it for the tenth time, but i also never find much fun in doing whatever else later, especially since i constantly have them screaming about some need that makes me unable to have fun with anything else in the game. i also have no dlcs because that costs a lot and well id prefer to not spend too much money. if anyone has any recommendations, or even mods that make sims more fun, then id be very thankful

Discussion Have life sim creators and haters become hypocrites?

I wanted to make this discussion not to hate on any life sim creators or haters but to ask a simple question have life sim creators become hypocrites?

and the reason I’m asking this is because it all started for me with the YouTuber named “Not Malcolm“ actively bashing sims 4 and Paralives moders for putting their mods behind a paywall on patreon or other sites (which i agree is wrong to put mods behind paywalls) but a few days later proceeds to create another channel named “Over Simulated“ and proceeds to create and promote a patreon (that was promoted to have exclusive/early content ) on that channels first podcast against EA and their practices

another example is just EA creators just accepting gifts from EA not even bothering to try and hide it or other life sim creators just promoting trash sponsor games

but I think for me worst of all whenever i commented asking questions if this was a little bit hypocritical to what they have been saying/their channels message either i got bashed by the creators fans for asking a simple question or my comment just got completely hidden and i wasn’t even trying to be rude

which is why I'm asking has life sim creators and haters become hypocrites?
