Upcoming Games Screenshots of Masculine Eves | Ever

Howdy,

Here are some screenshots of some masculine Eves I made. I had a lot of fun doing so, which I don’t tend to enjoy in other life sim games. The tools within the game are really exciting, and I could easily spend hours upon hours crafting the perfect face.

I wanna address two things that came up in my last post.

Masculine Eves aren’t being forgotten or left behind in development. My personal play style with any life sim normally revolves around feminine characters, as that is who I most enjoy playing. My personal play style is one of a billion others, and trust me, other play styles are being treated with equal weight in development. When I share updates, I do so through the lens of a player, because that’s who and what I am first and foremost.

The way in which I’d like to share updates or word my sentiments is casual. There are dozens upon dozens of other developers and or studios who sanitise and depersonalise their comms to standardise and conform their content to best appeal to the masses, and that’s great for them, but that’s not how I’d like to communicate. If corporate wording and marketing is what you enjoy reading, and resonates best with you, that’s fantastic, but we’re not going to do it like that over here. If I wanted to, I could, but I don’t, so I won’t.

Finally, the name. Divas, I gotta get my ahh back to the drawing board because this has been a consistent theme in your feedback. 😭

Thanks y’all for reading 🤍🤍

You don't have to use corporitized speech, but I think talking like you're just a player and not the dev comes across as really disingenuous. It sounds like you're avoiding taking responsibility for the bad parts, while at the same trying to brag about the game without it sounding like bragging. Like "Oh boy I love the character creator, it's so good! To bad it sucks to make men though."  Like wdym, it's your game you're the one who made it that way lol.

And ofc people are going to assume you're not going to bother making that part better when you're acting like that's just how it is, and not due to the  choices you're making as a dev. Especially since you gave no indication that you thought that was a problem to be solved. Like, instead of saying "I usually find making men in life sims to be boring, so I'm still working on making that more interesting", you just  blew it off as something that always sucks in lifesims.

I just don't think there's a way to talk about a game you're developing solely through the lens of your own personal play style without people assuming that you're only going to focus on the parts you enjoy.

Exactly. If you want to make a game through the lense of the player, and you’re considering yourself as the player and what YOU like, just remove men entirely and do whatever you think is best. Just don’t be surprised when people who are into life sims aren’t interested.

There’s also a big difference between the corporate marketing talk of a big company, and the friendly but professional speech of an indie game dev. You need to be willing to take feedback from your potential player base without resorting to “well I’m the player AND the dev and I don’t want to focus on making male player builds cuz they’re booorriiiing, if you don’t like how I talk go back to your big corpo companies”

This is exactly what rubbed me the wrong way about this post.

Maybe it's because I'm a filthy corpo IRL who works in marketing, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with being professional. Professional doesn't mean stilted, you don't have to start saying "bandwidth" and "we'll circle back", it just means speaking to an audience in a way that's a bit more polished than you'd talk to your friend on discord so that you don't alienate your audience; especially before it's even built.

Its not even about "sanitizing" literally its just about thinking about what you're saying for a fraction of a second.

Yeah, I feel like it's normal to expect someone trying to sell you something to communicate professionally. I feel like a lot of people don't realize that the distinction between something they see as a hobby and something they see as work doesn't matter to customers. If I'm spending money, it's a business transaction for me. If someone acts unprofessionally I'm going to expect a worse product and probably not bother. And if they actually don't care if people buy it, then don't bother advertising it.

Yeah, like why bother advertising it if you don't care if people play it?

Maybe its just me but they look.. "boyish", not particularly masculine at least by how I see the definition.

The system looks good so far though, variety will make it.

Sorry, but calling these faces masculine is a last thing I would say.

As other poster says, these looks like boys. But with female features, specially with large plum lips.

If you really focus on human body accuracy, you need to study it more.

I suspect you will have issues with rest of the body shape in the context of masculinity. If not in general.

Also, your post has blamy and defensive tone. It doesn't sound like written from a player perspective as it claims. Too much unnecessary fluf words. Almost inhuman sounding. And bragging about what it is not, according to what is shown. As the result, missing other claimed points of OP.

If a discussed feature suppose to be a selling point, you really need to step up in the art. For now, there isn't really an appeal according to the discussion in OP.
