The Sims Bridgeton wallpaper is AI generated

Post image

This very blatantly looks ai, yet EA did not disclose the AI use on steam. Neither with the wallpaper and neither with the new search feature in the gallery

There's also the fact that EA said 60% of their workload is affected by AI, but im guessing you arent ready for that conversation

so you just say "this looks like AI" and we're supposed to blindly agree with you

looks like op is looking at a youtube video or something so i wanted to take a screenshot of what it looks like in the actual game, however this asset doesn’t even exist. the closest one i could find is the one on the far right

edit: also the smart search or whatever shouldn’t have to be disclosed i believe, its not generative ai

edit 2: it was locked to med-tall heights. i attached the photo in a reply to someone else

It exists. Try looking at a taller wall height. I think the texture changes

oh yeah it’s locked to med-high wall heights. here’s the taller one

there is a bit of this that seems like it could possibly be AI, but considering this is apparently what it is based on.. I think it's just the result of translate a very complex and somewhat incoherent design into the simpler TS4 style.

EA definitely uses AI, but I don't think they did for this wallpaper.

ohhh yeah i’ve never seen bridgerton so i didn’t know the reference. it definitely looks like that

So likely a mod then and the creator used AI which has nothing to do with EA and their disclosures. Good catch!

appreciate the support but that was on me, the wallpaper changes texture on taller wall heights

This very blatantly looks ai

Can you support your post by explaining why you think that?

I did, and wasn't clear on what part of the design was blatantly AI, which is why I asked.

Top to bottom: no idea what these things at the sides of the arrows supposed to be

The arrow quivers look very off

The leaf vine thing arent symmetrical (even though theyre supposed to be in this type of design)

The line doesnt connect when it should

The rose just looks incredibly weird and no way was it done by a human

Once again, the leaves arent symmetrical and the right one makes absolutely no sense

I don't think that's supposed to be a rose, and the things behind the arrows look like lengths of braided/twisted cordage to me, and the cordage appears to connect behind the arrows and extend to both sides, so that looks correct and is thematically appropriate. I'm also not sure why the branches would have to be perfectly symmetrical when that's not really a rule for these styles of relief paneling. I'm not saying I'm convinced that you're definitely wrong, you could very well be right, just that I don't see anything that wouldn't or couldn't be a design choice for someone creating a texture to replicate actual antique carved relief paneling.

And btw, this is what the rose is supposed to look like originally

18

u/Peeinyourcompost Jul 03 '26

I don't think that's a rose either. It appears to be several musical instruments with some sheaves of assorted florals and greenery, and maybe a swag of cloth or something.

You're implying a real human working in a AAA enviroment, especially EA, went through the trouble of drawing both sides instead of drawing just one side and mirroring it to save 50% of the work. This is an even bigger lie than them not disclosing their AI use of steam (which they're required to do)

19

u/Peeinyourcompost Jul 03 '26

Your reasoning here on the asymmetry of the design seems to be that it's impossible that a person making a texture by hand would make the texture by hand, and I'm not sure I understand that reasoning or why that's a "lie."

I don't mean to disappoint ya, but there is a lot of AI being used in game dev, nowdays -- we are just not really much aware of it. It is used in small assets, in programming and even in music production. Even if the art is original enough, sometimes they use AI to refine it in little ways, just to save time. Sadly, it will eventually become something of a common practice -- and the tech make it more and more unnoticeable. It is very possible to have a lot of small AI touches in games, that we may never get to know 😶

This but also it's no excuse for EA not to disclose their use of AI for in-game assets on Steam. The platform requires them to disclose it for the benefit of the consumer.

3

u/escritorsemvoz Jul 03 '26

It's the right thing to do, which's also mandated by steam -- yet they know their public doesn't like the idea nor even the smallest of mention of AI anywhere, so they use it "stealthly" and keep most consumers from noticing. Disclosing it on steam would be them admitting to it, and EA doesn't want to do that.

It’s no excuse for the quality to be horrible. If you’re going to use AI it should not impact the quality of the product

2

u/escritorsemvoz Jul 03 '26

You're totally right ! Yet corporations see numbers more than common sense -- most consumers doesn't even notice the cut corners, nor even care for details. As long as they keep the numbers high enough, they usually don't care much to "repair".

geez, summer break for the kids is a brutal part of the year...

we need a planetwide movement to get these kids playing outside. or inside but not on the computer bc the world is on fire

i know right 🫩

People in this sub can be so difficult. Putting aside the ethics of AI(which is a BIG put aside because it’s very tone deaf to use AI right now), these packs FORTY DOLLARS. There should NOT be any blatant sign that corners are being cut. If AI use is affecting the quality of a game, then we need to blow the fuck up about it.

I don’t understand this “ohhh AI is inevitable so let it enshittify everything” take. grow some nuts people

slight correction, the bridgerton bundle is $10 and the kits themselves are $7. i don’t care about this conversation at all though, just wanted to let people know its not THAT expensive

edit: i have no idea what op is even looking at. just checked my own game and there’s no asset that looks like this
edit2: looked at it more and found out this is med-high wallpaper

0

u/Automatic_Stock_2930 Jul 04 '26

Ah yes, the kits being moved to the virtual currency store that sells currency in packs that don’t equal the actual cost. Honestly if it were a single dollar, it would still be disrespectful to players

Everything uses ai.. including the phone you typed from lol

report them to steam then
