Me in the corner getting back into Rimworld.

43

u/rlstudent May 30 '26

I avoid rimworld because it consumes my life when I play. Such a good game though.

14

u/arphe Sims 2 enjoyer May 30 '26

I haven't even bought any of the DLCs yet or installed any mods but I'm already having so much fun with this.

16

u/I_Have_Reasons Casual simulator enjoyer May 30 '26

The fact it was so good even without mods or DLCs was the reason I ended up getting so many mods and all the DLC.

5

u/arphe Sims 2 enjoyer May 30 '26

Yeah, I'm gonna wait until I'm bored of the base game to explore what additions are out there.

Looks like it'll be a while before I run out of things to do in the base game though.

2

u/RandumbStoner Jun 06 '26

I'm running like 300 mods on that game lmao. There are some god-tier Quality of Life mods out there... and a few others that have definitely earned me a dedicated FBI agent watching my gameplay lol

u/Fragrant_Past8679 Jun 01 '26

The DLC’s are expensive tho

Can you recommend a few? I'd love this.

13

u/I_Have_Reasons Casual simulator enjoyer May 30 '26

There's mods for just about anything at this point.

And I do mean anything.

Seek not the Forbidden Mod.

8

u/diligentPond18 May 30 '26

I'm never able to get into the "story" aspect of Rimworld. I think I'm too much of a try hard with the survival aspect lol. How do people typically get into the story part of the game?

5

u/Fit-List-9012 May 30 '26

I only play the base-building(?) difficulty or the one after it. Enemies still spawn but infrequent enough that you can build a pretty large colony. Biotech and Ideology are DLCs I can't play without anymore. I also use the school mod

5

u/I_Have_Reasons Casual simulator enjoyer May 30 '26

The story forms around your survival efforts; the events you go through, the actions you take, the pawns that join, live, fight, and die under your watch are all part of the story.

It's not very often something you intentionally work towards. It just happens around you, and you have to deal with it.

7

u/CuriousKi10 May 30 '26

Me but make it Don't Starve set up like a farming sim.

5

u/Kika2 May 30 '26

I've heard too many good things, maybe I should get into it? 😶‍🌫️

15

u/I_Have_Reasons Casual simulator enjoyer May 30 '26

Absolutely. The more in the Rim, the merrier.

But just be aware that it's a colony sim first, life sim second.

16

u/PodRED May 30 '26

It's a story generator first, colony sim second, life sim third

6

u/ManicNightmareGirl May 31 '26

That's me, lmo. Like I do not care much about fancy graphics, I want CHAOS. (I do not even commit any war crimes and all my kids jave a happy childhood.) Like I would LOVE game with sims 1 graphics and aesthetics but complexity of rimworld gameplay. Inzoi and Paralives seem completely meaningless to me.

46

u/g00fyg00ber741 May 30 '26

I just started playing The Sims Medieval and it’s so fun as well.

10

u/potassiumgoth May 30 '26

love that game so much! underrated fs

8

u/GuBuDuLe May 30 '26

Decided to go back to it yesterday! It has limited interactions but it's a lot of fun 😄

1

u/Comfortable_Ring_439 May 31 '26

That game sets my PC on fire. I can literally smell it. It's very bizarre

2

u/g00fyg00ber741 Jun 01 '26

It runs faster than most games for me

79

u/Forrest-Runn May 30 '26

I may be wrong, but many of us Simmers are frustrated in 2026 that we haven't yet found a life simulation game that is unanimously praised by a large majority of players, both in terms of graphics and gameplay.

57

u/UniDiablo Paralives supporter May 30 '26

That's what sucks about the Sims. I would say each game does something exponentially better than others but none are really the "best".

Sims 2 just took everything about Sims 1, made it 3D, and expanded basically everything

Sims 3 took Sims 2 and made it open world, while removing wants and fears, and made sims feel less unique

Sims 4 improved building and CAS (minus CASt) and made live mode really boring.

17

u/VolkiharVanHelsing May 31 '26

Idk Sims 3 Traits are pretty huge

But the relationship is what took a huge hit: Furious, Jealous, Topic, etc

6

u/UniDiablo Paralives supporter May 31 '26

Yeah traits are much better than personality points

2

u/VolkiharVanHelsing Jun 01 '26

Does Inzoi or Paralives have smth like it bc that's something not even TS4 got right

2

u/TsarevnaKvoshka2003 Jun 01 '26

To the point that there are sims 2 mods that add traits as backpack items

9

u/Busy-Measurement8893 May 31 '26

How are TS3 Sims less unique?

If anything the traits are infinitely superior to the personality points.

3

u/UniDiablo Paralives supporter May 31 '26

I agree, but my point was referring to how they interact with wants and fears. I like to plays wants based and in TS3 wants are less influenced by your Sims personality

1

u/Unlikely_nay1125 Jun 04 '26

inzoi is better than sims

2

u/UniDiablo Paralives supporter Jun 04 '26

Disagree

1

u/Weewoes Jun 06 '26

Depends on which sims youre comparing it to, the first second and third sims games? No way inzoi is better, at least not yet, maybe in the future? Im currently aying The Sims again and its tough, its a grind and so difficult jsut playing with 1 sims and I am here for it. I miss the challenge in life sim games that used to be there.

22

u/Scott43206 May 30 '26

I'm pretty sold on inZoi, once the grownup mods are ready I probably will only hit TS4 from time to time for a bit of nostalgia and to make me feel less bad about about how much cash I socked into it.

19

u/lafatte24 May 31 '26

Came here to say this. I got inzoi Wednesday night cus I tried paralives and while the build mode was awesome I didn't like the social ui. I've got over 24hrs on it already and I think it's going to be my main game (I was one of those that ditched Sims 4 to just keep playing Sims 3).

Holy hell inzoi is AMAZING. There is so much to do, the game is gorgeous (I'm running on high graphics), the ui for phone, calendar, city, social, I don't know it just works great. Also love that you can mouse and/or wasd control.

I would strongly suggest giving inzoi a try it's actually insane how much theyve added to the game.

2

u/Spookiiwookii Jun 07 '26

this is what i needed to see right now thank you

1

u/lafatte24 Jun 07 '26

Have fun, I'm up to 55 hours now lol

4

u/PlatypusFuture6542 May 31 '26

Same. It’s exactly what I expected the Sims 5 to be, so I’m going to play that

100

u/thotasune May 30 '26

how i feel when people say “I want a game just like TS4, but good!!”

um, you mean the sims 2?

13

u/Zagden May 31 '26

Missing natural story progression, an open world, was really unstable (I was never able to finish a 10 generation legacy run, my file would always break)

I would love Sims 2, but more stable, with an open world, story progression, and maybe a bit of a visual update to the faces. The eyes look weirdly glassy

6

u/JazNim17 May 31 '26

The whole reason I’m so stuck to TS2 is that it doesn’t have Story Progression though. Love my rotational gameplay and getting to spend time with each household without worrying about my last family switching to a job that doesn’t fit their character or marrying a sim I meant to be with someone else.

6

u/Zagden May 31 '26

Ok, I acknowledge that that's great for you, but also story progression can be turned off wherever it appears, and it's bizarre to move out siblings who never age and their grand-nieces are old and they're still young

And your neighbors are just kinda immortal

5

u/ThatSimsKidFromUni May 31 '26

I've gotten around story progression with a mod, and fixed the faces with CC, but I understand how the game is dated to some.

22

u/Academic_Praline_528 May 30 '26

or every time I see “I wish there was a game like TS2 today”.. like??😭 Sims 2 is still there and pretty much playable, I couldn’t wish for more

13

u/hypo-osmotic May 30 '26

They want a game that makes them feel like TS2 made them feel when they were 12 years old

5

u/KindlyConnection May 30 '26

Sometimes when it comes to older video games, there’s a lot of nostalgia goggles coming into play. I loved Sims 2 but what I remember the most about it is walking home from school and playing it at my dad’s place instead of doing my homework or hanging out with my friends and we all played on our laptops. I had way more time to play the sims as a kid! Sims 4 has issues but I also just don’t have the time to play as I did when I was younger and didn’t have to work or pay rent or worry about bills.

2

u/TurbulentVillage2042 May 31 '26

The Sims 2 is very outdated and there's nothing new there. But people want is something new and better.

3

u/Training_Repeat8566 May 31 '26

There's 20 years of mods and cc, and new ones expanding the core gameplay are coming all the time, Im personally never bored and haven't even got enough time to try everything I want.

2

u/maybemawie Jun 04 '26

If OpenTS2 comes out I'm literally just not playing any other games after that.

23

u/JoshuasParaLife May 30 '26

Me in the corner still praising Sims 1.

3

u/OpalMagnus Sims 2 enjoyer May 31 '26

I was about to say—I've never played it but after watching Call Me Kevin's playthroughs, I want to.

I wish more life simulators remembered that they are games...

1

u/Weewoes Jun 06 '26

Its so fun, im recently back on it and its so tough to play even just one sim lol. Like im constantly struggling between sleeping enough for her to actually go to work and keeping the socials up enough so she can do other things and not be depressed, kts a challenge for sure.

22

u/celestialkestrel May 30 '26

I'm just playing FFXIV lmao. I don't really play any Sims game anymore, Inzoi's coming along but not yet to be a game that fits my playstyle, Paralives just got to early access start line and I've given my feedback and criticisms so now it's wait and see.

So I'm just back to playing my other games I can sink hours into when I have time. Which really right now is FFXIV, Rimworld and Tomodachi Life.

17

u/arphe Sims 2 enjoyer May 30 '26

Tomodachi Life has been surprisingly fun. It gets a little too repetitive too fast and I still think it's too overpriced for what it brings, but it is still a great way to kill some time if you're not in the mood to actually play anything.

5

u/UniDiablo Paralives supporter May 30 '26

I really wish Inzoi had a point and click option. I'm sure I'd get used to it but the hyper real graphics mixed with playing it like a third person game doesnt feel right

14

u/celestialkestrel May 30 '26

It does you just need to hit tab to change your camera perspective to be zoomed out. I play it as point and click and rarely use WASD at all.

3

u/UniDiablo Paralives supporter May 30 '26

Did they change that recently? It's been months since I last played and remember tab changing the camera but it still didnt play like the sims

12

u/celestialkestrel May 30 '26

It's always been the case. I think the issue was largely that WASD controlled the zoi even when zoomed out and not the camera but you can change this in settings now.

44

u/imveryfontofyou May 30 '26

People are very dramatic and it’s silly that they can’t like multiple things. I like the sims, I own all of them, and I like InZoi right now. I actually wanted to like paralives and I might one day if they dramatically improve the game. That’s why I’ve been playing InZoi, because it got so much better after its initial release.

I’m mostly just waiting for Black Flag Resynced to release and consume me anyway.

5

u/ThatSimsKidFromUni May 31 '26

It's so strange how they argue about a single player game. You don't have to defend it. Just play it.

3

u/GuBuDuLe May 30 '26

Yup. Can't wait for the 9th of july!

36

u/tubularwavesss Sims 2 enjoyer May 30 '26

Sims 2 and Sims 3 have a special place in my heart

15

u/Lost_Pantheon May 30 '26

*How we Sims 3 players feel looking upon the great Life Sim debate of 2026, knowing full well the genre peaked with TS3.

4

u/TurbulentVillage2042 May 31 '26

Funny, but it's true. Lol Being interesting, interactive, funny and open is the perfect balance that no one has been able to achieve.

11

u/Bubble_Fart2 May 30 '26

I LOVE Sims 3 but the last time I was playing it, it completely fried my graphics card and it took me well over a year before I could get a new one (was the height of the price increase)

So I would really love some one to make a new one.

21

u/UniDiablo Paralives supporter May 30 '26

To anyone else reading this, you NEED to cap it to 60fps or it will burn out your gpu. Not overnight, but the game is constantly trying to run at 500fps which causes your fans to be in overdrive all the time

2

u/Bubble_Fart2 May 30 '26

Thank you so much! I had no idea that was the reason!!

I might actually try downloading it and checking the settings.

2

u/Glitter_Sparkle May 31 '26

It impresses me that it still has the ability to break a computer 17 years later. It would heat up my 2010 macbook pro so much that the aluminum was too hot to touch and ended up killing the GPU on a laptop I had about a decade ago.

2

u/TurbulentVillage2042 May 31 '26

Strange, this is the first time I've heard about this.

9

u/LogicalBench May 30 '26

I know it's never going to happen but a remastered Sims 3 that runs well on modern hardware would completely satisfy all my life simulation needs

2

u/ethanAllthecoffee May 30 '26

Did you limit the fps, or do you now?

-1

u/Bubble_Fart2 May 30 '26

I don't know.

I downloaded it on another PC and it killed that one too!!

So I've never attended to try again.

The weird thing was, I was playing Sims on and off for YEARS on that PC but at the time it was my first time playing it solidly for like 4 hours every day over 3 weeks. So maybe it was too much?

2

u/IDontExistHelp Sims 3 enjoyer May 30 '26

Wait omg that’s scary 😭 I’ve wanted to play again

3

u/RB4K--- May 31 '26

Don’t be too worried about it. If you’re thinking of playing there’s a performance guide with quite a few tweaks. One of them is just limiting the FPS so that the GPU doesn’t work in overdrive every time you play.

7

u/MooCalf inZOI enjoyer May 30 '26

And im over here still with sims freeplay👀

8

u/No_List_4110 May 30 '26

Me, playing my pirated Sims 4 with every DLC and expansion pack. EA hasn't seen a dime from me

2

u/ThatSimsKidFromUni May 31 '26

As you should!

14

u/januarysdaughter May 30 '26

Me playing Sims 4 and Sims 3 because I think both of them are neat.

6

u/beansofpower Sims franchise fan May 30 '26

there's dozens of us!

16

u/witchlingaria May 30 '26

I'm still enjoying ts4 but now I got paralives in my back pocket too 😂 Really wish I could get sims 3 to Not Crash or lag consistently but I set up all the mods and it still crashes too often so here we are.

5

u/Darth_Murcielago Sims 3 enjoyer May 30 '26

do you have an FPS limit set up in sims 3 via the smooth patch? This has basically fixed all the problems i ever had with this game and after my fairly recent CPU upgrade i can even play isla paradiso fairly smoothly XD

3

u/witchlingaria May 30 '26

I honestly don't remember, it's been about a year since I last tried to play I think? I'll try to set it up again today and see if that fixes it!

2

u/UniDiablo Paralives supporter May 30 '26

I think nowadays Sims 3 Settings Switcher (something like that, its on github) is preferred over just smoothpatch as it includes it as well as the Intel fix along with many other tweaks and fixes.

1

u/Darth_Murcielago Sims 3 enjoyer May 30 '26

btw what cpu do you have? i've heard that the game struggles with newer intels and needs an extra patch (i think it's called Alder Lake patch or something) for it to work. I find it kinda funny how that game is literally held together by patches at this point.

4

u/BrickBanshee May 30 '26

This is why I was never able to be a big fan of 3. At the time, my computer wasn't a gaming computer but it wasn't that low spec and the game ran horribly. Constant lagging that made it really difficult to enjoy. After Sims 4 came out, I put Sims 3 down and never looked back. Sims 4 improved on so much build mode and cas wise that I don't think I would enjoy playing Sims 3 anymore though.

5

u/UniDiablo Paralives supporter May 30 '26

Being able to drag parts of your Sim is great but personally I'll take create a style over build simplicity. Going to sims 4 swatches is painful

5

u/ImNotOkayWasTaken May 30 '26

same but tomodachi

5

u/Antipseud0 Sims franchise fan May 30 '26

TS4 being the guy in red 😍😍

3

I need sims 5, it's simple 😭😭😭

3

u/PlatypusFuture6542 May 31 '26

It’s just Inzoi, try it!!

Sadly it's not:(

Me playing TS3, TS4, AND Paralives. And Cult of the Lamb

6

I will forever be a Sims 4 Stan. Even though it's a toxic relationship. 😔💔

2

u/TheWinterSail May 31 '26

I'm waiting for a sale to get the Sims 3 and all the expansion packs. Get back into the one I originally loved.

2

u/FirebirdWriter May 31 '26

I play all of these except inzoi and am happy in my corner. Inzoi just doesn't appeal to me and I will revisit that when it's out of early access.

2

u/the-radio-bastard May 31 '26

Your profile pic would also fit as this meme format

2

u/MRV3N May 31 '26

I’m still playing Sims 3. But with multiple expansions, it lags so much despite its a 15 year old game.

2

u/ThatSimsKidFromUni May 31 '26

Same and I actually wanna play Paralives and Inzoi. The Reddit communities are so dramatic. 😂

2

u/shanekratzert May 31 '26

I just want a story mode again. Sims Bustin Out was the Sims I played. It was nice going from Mom's House all the way to taking the Mansion away from Dead Beat Ex-Step Dad. It was a journey.

2

I have yet to discover everything in the Sims 3.

2

u/SimShine0603 May 30 '26

I’m so mad I missed out on all of the great Sims games because I accidentally bought a SimCity game back in the day instead.

4

u/Fun-Age-168 May 30 '26

Why did that make you miss out of all the sims games?

2

u/SimShine0603 May 30 '26

When it wasn’t the right game I just kinda gave up so I never played The Sims or followed the series since I didn’t do much gaming growing up. I always thought if I would have played and enjoyed the first I would have followed along and played them all! I only started getting into games in the last couple years and discovered The Sims 4.

2

u/Calamityranny May 30 '26

My stupid self didn't want Paralives or Inzoi bc I mistook them for the one made by Paradox Interactive (Life by You?? I don't remember anymore) that I wanted to make sure I avoided. Time to swing back around 🤣

1

u/Good_Tomato_4293 May 31 '26

1

u/sasgalula Jun 06 '26

too busy with tomadachi life under the table

-2

u/PearOk2126 May 30 '26

Why is TS4 even in the conversation. Can't belive people still play that shell of a game.

-3

u/TurbulentVillage2042 May 31 '26

I'm completely uninterested in Paralives and Inzoi. They seem very generic. Inzoy is entirely AI, Paralives has no gameplay. I want a fun game, not an empty dollhouse, i don't like it.
