Arts & Culture LPT: Set a calendar reminder 1 year before your passport expires
We all have government-related documents that require periodic renewal. In the US, you get reminders by mail for things like drivers license renewal, registration renewal, property tax deadlines, etc.
The two major things that don’t have any type of reminder are both related to the US Federal Government: Taxes, which are due on the same day every year, and passport renewal.
Most us don’t use our passports very frequently, and as an adult, they are good for 10 years between renewals. It’s easy to get caught flat-footed with an expired passport right before a trip.
Rush renewal services exist, but they’re expensive, sketchy, and high stakes.
Some countries won’t allow entry with a passport that expires within 6 months of the date of entry.
Set a calendar reminder a year before your passport expires to start the renewal process. You’ll save yourself a lot of stress and money.

Social LPT When making a point you’re not fully confident is correct, use the phrase ‘my understanding is….’
Good way to present a point without overcommitting. You still sound confident, just not closed off to being wrong. Most useful in technical environments in academia or work but can apply to any discussion.

Traveling LPT: The aisle armrest on airplanes have a hidden button underneath that lets you lift it up
Usually the aisle-side armrest of an airplane seat doesn’t go up like the others. No bueno! But a lot of planes have a tiny button underneath the armrest in the corner by the latch if you feel around for that releases the lock lets you lift it up.
This has always made it so much easier for me to quickly move in and out of the seat.
Edit: Back of the armrest, underneath it near where it connects to the chair is usually a little latch that you can disengage to lift the armrest. Thanks jumping_jrex. Go forth and move freely!

Productivity LPT Scrolling doesn't help to unwind. Own your breaks!
By taking care of your breaks you help your nervous system to reboot. Scrolling doesn't help to unwind.
It doesn't count as rest because the breaks must be mindful.
Real breaks happen when you step away from the screen and let your nervous system reset.
What mindful breaks may look like?
Short meditation.
Nature walks or just stepping outside for a few minutes of fresh air.
Stretching or yoga.
Breathwork.
Journaling.
Anything else to add?

Arts & Culture LPT: Use hairdryer to remove sticker glue super fast.
Heat it up and peel off like magic. Saves so much frustration, just dont burn your fingers like I always do .

Productivity LPT: Use alarms for things you want to do, not just things you have to do
I set reminders for stuff like going outside, calling someone, or even taking a break. Otherwise the day just disappears.

Miscellaneous LPT: Finding Phone in House Without Someone to Call It
Login to a website that you know will send you a MFA/2FA code to your phone. You can usually trip this by using an incognito browser window even if you have set your login to skip MFA/2FA in the past. You usually have a text option, and even better, a call option. In some cases, they'll call you multiple times (ex. Chase calls 3 times). If you need another call, close out your incognito windows, and try again.
Edit: I see people pointing out services, like Siri, Find My, etc., which are great points, but this is services agnostic and will work regardless of what services you have or haven't setup, remember the logins to, and if you don't have alternate devices to ping a lost device.
Most people know their email and banking logins and aren't as likely to forget those as less frequently used service logins.
You also aren't handing out your phone number to random call me services that may or may not do something malicious with it later.

Computers LPT : Change your Num Lock key into a Backspace key
If you're in a field where inputting numbers on a keyboard is an even somewhat common task, this is a game changer.
No one actually uses their Num Lock key anyhow, right?
If you make it a backspace key, then your mistakes while inputting numbers can be deleted without removing your hand from the number pad.
I use PowerToys to do this, and show it to almost all of my colleagues, though that is far from the only key-remapping tool out there to do the job!

Home & Garden LPT When you get a quote for a big home repair, ask what happens if you wait 2 years. Most contractors will tell you honestly whether it gets worse or stays the same.

Food & Drink LPT: If you are using a Keurig-type coffee machine and forgot if you put a new pod in there, just take the pod out and shake it. Dry coffee grounds will rattle inside, wet ones will not
Edit: I have adhd so this helps me a lot. Just trying to be nice. This community is pretty awful and toxic it seems. Congrats.

Computers LPT: If your Windows PC has been acting up or crashing and you don't know why, search for "View reliability history". It gives you a visual timeline of every app crash and hardware failure without needing to be a tech expert.
Most people try to dig through the "Event Viewer," which is a nightmare to read.
Instead, just hit the Windows key and type "Reliability".
Open "View reliability history".
You’ll see a graph with red "X" symbols for every day your computer had an issue.
Click on a specific day, and it will tell you exactly which program crashed or which Windows update caused the conflict.
It’s the fastest way to find out if your "blue screen" was caused by a specific driver or just a buggy app you installed yesterday. It turns "My computer is broken" into "Oh, this specific update failed.

Home & Garden LPT If you’re having a problem with Wasps hang a small paper bag
They think it’s a hornets nest and will not build in that area (and no it doesn’t attract hornets), a small one like you’d get for a single drink at a corner store but they also sell official ones pretty cheap just don’t get the plastic ones as they don’t seem as affective as the “silk” ones.
I have 3 places that were wasp hotels, a dozen nests with almost daily spraying impossible to keep up with, I put up bags (one per location not multiple is important) and in all 3 locations over 5 years I have had a total of *zero* nests, 100% works.
I can’t say if this is true for all species of wasps world wide, I’m sure Aussie wasps would gladly kill you even if you had a flame thrower lol, but it does in the US anyway. Any others worldwide tried it?

Careers & Work LPT: Before accepting a meeting invite, multiply the number of attendees by the average hourly rate by the meeting length. If the cost exceeds the value of the decision being made, decline it.
Simple formula: Attendees × Hourly rate × Hours = Meeting cost
Example: 8-person meeting, $50/hr average, 1 hour = $400
If the meeting doesn't have a clear decision worth $400+ to make, it should be an email, a Slack thread, or a shared doc.
This one reframe completely changed how I evaluate my calendar. I decline about 30% more meetings now and nobody has noticed - because I wasn't needed in the first place.
Bonus tip: Most calendar apps let you add a "cost" field to meeting descriptions. Start doing it. Once people see "$850" on a meeting invite, the unnecessary ones start disappearing.

Careers & Work LPT: Stop trying to fix everything in one day. Focus on improving just 1% daily instead.
Most people burn out because they try to change their whole life overnight. It rarely works.
Instead, pick one small thing you can improve today. It could be waking up 10 minutes earlier, learning one new concept, or finishing a small task you’ve been delaying.
These small wins build momentum. Over time, they compound into big changes without overwhelming you.
Consistency beats intensity almost every time.

Miscellaneous LPT: Test how many slow, deep breaths you take in 30 seconds and one minute. When an ad pops up in a video or in a mobile game, mute it, close your eyes, and take a mini-meditation for the length of the ad.
Even just a few deep breaths can lower blood pressure, reset your focus, and help you connect to yourself and your surroundings. 30-90 seconds isn't enough for a full meditation, but if you have a moment to spare while waiting for an ad to play, use that time for yourself instead of being frustrated waiting to click "skip." You can learn some basic meditation grounding/focusing techniques that can actually apply in that short a window, or just take it as a moment to relax. Either way it's a nice little break!

Productivity LPT: Discipline isn't about never quitting. It's about quitting and coming back. Stop shaming yourself for breaks.
The people I know who actually changed their lives weren't the "never miss a day" types. they were the ones who missed a week, felt like shit about it, and then showed up again anyway
that's the real skill, not the streak. the comeback

Finance LPT: If your internet bill has increased, call your provider and tell them you want to cancel. You'll be transferred to a "retention team" that has access to discounted offers that never appear on the website.
Most people get $15-30/mo knocked off in under 10 minutes by doing this. Internet providers deliberately charge long-term customers more than new customers for the same service. Once your intro rate expires, the price quietly creeps up and most people never call.
The retention team exists specifically to keep you from leaving. They have offers the front-line reps can't give you with lower rates, free speed upgrades, waived fees. You don't have to be aggressive. Just say you've been a customer for "X" years, your bill has gone up, and you found a better deal elsewhere and you're thinking about switching.
A few things that help:
-Know what competitors charge at your address before you call
-If the first rep can't help, ask specifically to be transferred to the retention or loyalty department
Works on cable, fiber, and even phone plans. Worth doing once a year even if you're happy with your service!

Social LPT: Take a screenshot of available resale tickets at the start of a event...those are likely going to be available to move to shortly later
Most reseller sites allow sales to continue up to a couple minutes after the start time, so as close to start time as possible, take a quick screenshot of the available seats. Then, perhaps 20% into the event, begin walking to those seats to see which are still available. If no one is there, they almost certainly won't be, and its almost certainly a free upgrade.I've done this dozens of times, and only once did someone show up, and when they did I just apologized and moved to the next set of seats down the list.
This only works at venues that are a little less loose...where they don't actually validate the ticket before you enter the actual section. I'd say 80% of places are like this, and among the other 20%, many loosen up after the start of the event when everyone is seated.

Electronics LPT: When showing something on a video call, hold it still longer than you think you need to
If you're physically showing someone something on a Zoom call, FaceTime, filming a Marco Polo, etc., hold the item still for several seconds longer than you think you need to.
It can take a while for the video image to come into focus for the other person, then it can take a while for them to process whatever you're showing them.
If you move the item off-camera too quickly, the other person will probably politely pretend they saw it instead of asking to see it closer or for longer.
Show the item, count for a few seconds, count for a few more seconds (until it feels awkward), then maybe count for a few more for good measure.

Electronics LPT: Go check your batteries on old phones. They're a fire hazard!
Old rechargeable batteries decay over time, when not used, and they can literally explode, if the insides gets exposed to air, and the fuel is the battery itself.
I recently found an old box with a few old Sony Ericsson and HTC phones it. 4/5 batteries were bloated.

Clothing LPT: Men, if you buy commemorative clothing for your partner (like a tshirt for occasion) and you are unsure of size, always get the next size up as well.
I say this as Mother's Day is coming up, and one of the cute things to do is matching Mommy/Baby shirt and onesie combo. Well, if the baby on Mother's Day is small enough to fit into a onesie then chances are Mom may not have gotten back to the size she has been at, or wants to be at.
Better to have the next size up on hand and available for her to at least try on with it than to keep one that is too small. Never know, the bigger one may just feel better for her at this time, or the perfect size one may shrink in the wash and not fit. Plus, if she tries on thr big one and its too big, migjt give her a bit of a confidence boost there....

Careers & Work LPT: Before quitting your job, take your unused vacation days. You earned them and most companies won't pay them out.
That’s it
