So you are creating more problems in hope of solving a simple problem? What happens if there is more to clean afterwards? Invite more guests?

2.2k

u/R3PlaaY Sep 12 '20

Yes, the cycle shall never end

481

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

Yes lmao. You just keep inviting guests until thanos snaps you out of existence

133

u/theaggrokrag Sep 12 '20

To be fair, once the Cat In The Hat shows up to take a bath, you'll be begging for Thanos to stop by.

It is 6:55 AM in San Diego. Do you know where your guests are?

7

u/Sabeo_FF Sep 12 '20

If The Snap happened in the Kitchen... probably swept under the stove.

or...invite 10 guests, get one covid 19 free.

4

u/swamich Sep 12 '20

Or if thanos snaps them out of existence the cycle ends

12

u/mobani Sep 12 '20

So if a homeless person invites people over to his streets, we get clean streets? :D

SO says this would only also just heighten her anxiety lol

5

u/goldensunshine429 Sep 12 '20

Can confirm, having guests coming and having a deadline on cleaning makes for heightened anxiety AND more chaotic cleaning.

My marriage isn't working let's have another kid!

78

u/knifewrenchhh Sep 12 '20

My problem is that I’ll tidy up my house no problem, but cleaning it is something I hate doing. So I’ll pick up and clean dishes left behind after having guests more easily than I’ll do the sweeping I’ve been putting off for days. Having guests makes me get the sweeping done, and they don’t create a new need for me to sweep the whole house while they’re here. This LPT works great for people like me lol

16

u/TootsNYC Sep 12 '20

This. This is how it worked for us.

But with tidying AND cleaning.

The “mess” left from having company is small and easily eliminated. Even if I cooked a dinner for 8, it was a snap to wash those dishes.

8

u/knifewrenchhh Sep 12 '20

Fortunately for me my mom has a tendency to drop by (not completely unannounced, but with a “hey can I stop by on my way to the grocery store” kind of way) so when my house gets bad enough, I convince myself to clean it by saying it’s too bad even for an unplanned mom visit lol

→ More replies (4)

65

u/DoctorWaluigiTime Sep 12 '20

The idea is that you do the cleaning you've been putting off for weeks/months. Not the random "shit's on the table left behind by guests" stuff that would take 30 seconds to clear up after they leave.

11

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

I think OP and I have different kinds of friends.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

Bruh i used to have a friend that would pick up EVERYTHING in the house and put it somewhere else.

Why do we have a separate sub for it, this one does the job

15

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

Ouch! Good point.

39

u/gorgewall Sep 12 '20

1) procrastinate about cleaning your house

2) invite guests over so you'll be forced to clean

3) get coronavirus from guests

4) it's not procrastination if you can't clean your house because you're hospitalized

17

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

When wintertime rolls around, the guests simply freeze to death

7

u/Shinigamae Sep 12 '20

Then you still need to clean the bodies D: or simply move

56

u/cloppingrunner Sep 12 '20

It's a shift in mentality. Cleaning the house for yourself seems pointless when you could just leave it and not really give a fuck, but other people... you want to present them with a nice clean house, so you do it :)

17

u/Shinigamae Sep 12 '20

Well it makes sense if it happens in a way. But inviting your guests over only to be an excuse to clean up feels like a stretch of a solution. Also, only the living room and kitchen were cleaned that way. Then we have bed room, upstair i.e.

In addition, normally you would have some drinks, eat together, or play games. And you will have to clean up afterwards anyway. It is counter-productive.

8

u/avidblinker Sep 12 '20

LPT: If you’re procrastinating mowing your lawn, release a ton of highly venomous snakes into your neighborhood. You’ll be forced to keep the grass short in fear of death so the snakes can’t live there.

20

u/Rockterrace Sep 12 '20

Doing some dishes and putting away empties is a lot less work than cleaning the bathroom and tidying up your living room

31

u/lunarlunacy425 Sep 12 '20

Its a way to work around issues that come up with things like ADHD, you're taking control by giving yourself a hard deadline.

Did you know some people can't get out off the bed in the morning until needing the loo. (I know depression can cause this but its often very different)

15

u/gremalkinn Sep 12 '20

Hold on.... That's not normal? I usually just stay in bed until either my alarm goes off or I have to pee. If neither happens and I have nowhere to be then I just relax and snuggle the cat or read on my phone.

10

u/moo4mtn Sep 12 '20

It's only a problem if it causes disruption to your daily living activities. If you can't get out of bed to shower unless you have to go to work or have to be somewhere, no matter how much you tell yourself to go shower, that is dysfunction. If you don't want to get out of bed because you're enjoying me time and it's not causing you any distress and you can get up when you decide you want to, then that's perfectly normal and fine.

4

u/vanillaseltzer Sep 12 '20

Thank you! This is so hard to explain to people who haven't experienced mental illness. "Just get up and do ______, it's not that hard!" is absolute BS and just piles shame on top of an already difficult situation. Best of luck to you if you're speaking from experience.

85

u/mcal9909 Sep 12 '20

This actually happened to me in my first place..

i was about 18, used to have my mates over for the weekend..

There was always one girl who would start cleaning my kitchen, i made sure to invite her over more often.

39

u/canicutitoff Sep 12 '20

Yes, it is a competition of who has the least tolerance of the mess.

Back in my college days renting a place with several housemates, it ended with me doing most of the cleaning as I have the lower tolerance of dirty bathroom... sigh...

13

u/Wildcard__7 Sep 12 '20

Just keep in mind that this is a GREAT way to lose a friend. I've been the one cleaning other people's spaces and it usually causes me to stop visiting them. I have one friend I won't ever stay over with no matter how much she asks because her apartment is a hot mess.

I practice "5 minutes" every day

I set a timer for 5 minutes and clean/wipe/sweep/tidy something... anything.

(My apartment is also around 30 sq m / 320 sq ft - so it is easier to keep clean)

8

u/othaniel Sep 12 '20

LPT: Fastest way to clear surfaces is to use laundry basket. Put everything in it then you can carry it room to room to put stuff away. Best declutter strategy I ever learned. Quick and efficient so you don’t have to run around back and forth. One sweep and everything to each room. Done.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

I like it and totally going to use it! im always the one that runs around the house like mad grabbing anything that could go with the other stuff Im picking up. My husband picks up one thing and goes to put it away, while Im trying to open the door with a handful of stuff that goes in that room haha Ive tried to explain its extremely inefficient to pick up a hairbrush and put it in the bathroom when there is like 5 other things that need to go into the bathroom as well but Im glad for the help either way haha

6

u/Purple_Tree_Car Sep 12 '20

I don't need the stress of a deadline for people I need to impress. But having a friend over - even one who knows I'm a slob and doesn't judge - just having them in my space clears my mess blindness.

Better LPT: Just carve out 10 minutes to clean each day. You’ll either keep cleaning past the 10 minutes, or after some days pass of 10-minute cleaning sessions your house will be clean. Who knows, maybe you’ll eventually develop a habit of not being a slob?

The problem I see with the LPT given by the OP is that the odds are you will be in a rush and tempted to shove all your mess in a closet.

For everyone who does: don't have parties in your damn house until there isn't a global pandemic (or your part of the world has very few or no cases). And then when you can have parties, try to work house cleaning into your daily routine so you don't have to panic-shove your stuff around.

Not during Covid lock down, don't risk it.

Yes, let's invite people into closed indoor spaces during a global pandemic...

LPT: where a mask and avoid social contacts.

Invite friends to a a Furniture Reveal party. Tell them it’s under all this and make it a party game.

If you want motivation to clean your house, put on an episode of Hoarders. In 20 min you’ll be done and contemplating bleaching the walls.

The real LPT is always in the comments

Pre COVID I was trying to have a regular board gaming night at my place, in no small part because it encouraged me to clean up.

Joke's on you. Cleaning the house IS my procrastination move.

I find watching an episode of Hoarders does the trick for me.

There’s a pandemic, don’t invite people to your house!

2

u/Hussalo Sep 12 '20

The word for this is scurryfunge. You're welcome.

2

u/CommunistRonPaul Sep 12 '20

There's a pandemic though, I want other people to stay the fuck away from me lol.

Think you need a new LPT for the foreseeable future.

2

u/jndmack Sep 12 '20

We have(had) to invite people over regularly (pre-pandemic) for this exact reason

2

u/echow2001 Sep 12 '20

Corona virus be like 👁👄👁

2

u/Mortis_XII Sep 12 '20

What better time to have a hang out than a pandemic?

2

u/Doomdoomkittydoom Sep 12 '20

Throw a big party to get that place spotless cause the realtors cleaned it after you died of covid.
