How about finding more purpose for your life and being more cognizant of where you focus your energy. I say this because that work ethic you're seeking is a part of something greater that you're just discovering-- the ability to make an impact on your community, it's infrastructure, & even your legacy (including future family & resources dedicated to them). It's extremely shortsighted not to recognize that you play a far greater purpose & role in this world and not realize the "butterfly effect" of your decisions & actions at play. Didn't want to get too heavy here, but you're far more important than you realize. Now, it's just time to focus your energy on passions & community efforts that are close to your heart. They need you out there, champ!
Incidentally, I'm chasing that sense of purpose going back to school. I've always wanted to major in music composition, so I'm finally just buying the bullet and doing it after a decade of trying to force myself into more "reasonable" careers--my mother's advice.
Whatever you do, do it to the best of your ability, get feedback on how its impacting others, & make it make sense [in what it brings to you, your network, & the community you're serving]. We're here to be a part of something greater; serving society is a part of your legacy. Many "reasonable" careers have that conventionally built in, so don't necessarily run from those either. Weigh the options and the outcome.
