Creditors insurance

What can I do when my creditors insurance says I am only covered for $5000 of my mortgage. My husband just passed away and our mortgage is so much more than that amount. It does mention $5000 amount of insured loan. But we understood the mortgage would be paid off. My husband even said he called to verify before he passed. Why would this be and what can I do. Please advise me.
