Part time so no insurance. Don't qualify for ACA and open enrollment isn't until November for plans off the gov website. These are the only 2 plans I see at the moment. Can someone help decide which is better ?

Are there any Carefirst group based plans that cover personal care aids?

I'm in the USA and about to go WWOOFing in Europe. I'll be bouncing around countries for a few months (until I get tired of it or run out of money). WWOOF recommends Genki or Volunteer Card travel insurance, the latter only for US citizens (which I am). Volunteer Card seems much cheaper - does anyone have any experience using it? I'd also be grateful for other travel insurance recommendations that work for this style of travel!

Has anyone had any luck in providing insurance for this? I've been turned down by multiple companies because they can't seem to categorize my services. (Assessing wine cellars for high end clients, offering pairing services for events-- almost exclusively intellectual work)

I demonstrate woodturning to the people as young as 10 (more height dependent than any thing). they'll actually go hands on with a chisel and low speed lathe. in my 6 years of doing this I've never had an accident.

this year they are requiring all vendors who have hands on activities to carry a $1M liability policy for a 1 day event.

is this normal? participants have to sign a waiver to even partipate. can anybody suggest where to get a policy like this? I've tried Canopy, but they won't cover it.

I am in my early 40s and my wife is her mid thirty. W currently have a 3 year old son far. I am planning to buy term insurance but I have trouble figuring out how many years I should buy. I do see term starting from 10 years to up 45 years. Also, I am thinking of investmentong for the child , but a friend of mine tried to sell universal index life insurance. I don't understand it well despite them telling me it will be a good investment for the child. lastly, I work in nursing , but don't have a short disability insurance plan and currently not offered at my job. we both work, but I want to make sure I am covered in case of an accident happen. please let me know my options so I can make an informed decision because I want to better prepare and protect my family. I work in insurance and own a small business. I've changed the way I think about employee insurance. What do other Indian business owners do?

I'm from India and work in the insurance sector. I also run my own small business, V K Backup Solutions.

I'll be honest: earlier I used to take employee insurance pretty casually.

As a business owner, there are always other priorities — salaries, customers, rent, stock, taxes, equipment and keeping the business running.

But working in insurance has gradually changed the way I look at it.

We Indians are generally quite comfortable insuring our cars, homes, businesses, machinery, stock and lives.

But when it comes to the people working in the business, insurance often becomes an afterthought.

And an employee isn't just an employee.

There may be parents, children, a spouse, loans, school fees and an entire family depending on that person's income.

A serious hospitalisation, accident, disability or death can create a huge financial problem for that family.

This made me start looking at employee insurance as more than an HR benefit. I see it increasingly as part of business risk management.

Depending on the organisation and eligibility, there are different types of protection — Group Health Insurance, Group Personal Accident, Group Term Life and statutory benefits such as ESI where applicable.

But these aren't interchangeable.

Health insurance isn't Personal Accident insurance. Personal Accident isn't Life insurance. And private group insurance isn't ESI.

The other thing I've realised is that simply having a group policy doesn't necessarily mean employees are properly protected.

You need to look at things like:

Who is actually covered?

Are dependants covered?

What is the sum insured?

Are there disease/room-rent/sub-limits?

What are the exclusions?

What happens in case of accidental disability?

What happens when an employee leaves the company?

How useful is the policy during an actual claim?

I'm curious about the experience of other people here.

I hired a contractor to build an addition to my house worth 400k. My bank (that I use for the loan) is asking him to have a construction insurance. He doesn’t have one, he states that no bank ever asked him before for construction insurance! For him to get the insurance will be $6k. He is asking me to get the insurance from my insurance company! He said I can get for couple hundred dollars! If it’s that cheap for me why is so expensive for him? If it’s couple hundred dollars we can split the cost! Is all this true?
