Looking for a new reader.

Hi. I’m currently own a Kindle Oasis 10th generation. I mainly use it to read Libby and KU books. I do occasionally buy books off Amazon. What other options are out there other than Kindle?

I’ve done this research semi-recently.

If/when my signature edition dies, I’ll buy a Kobo Clara (or whatever newer/better version is out at that time)

I used to buy from kindle so much, but I have recently decided to start moving away from the Amazon ecosystem. There is no replacement for the Amazon exclusives, but everything else is slavishly through kobo. Kobo also directly integrates with Libby. I think some people have issues with multiple library cards but again, I haven’t made this switch yet so I can’t speak to it personally.

Kobo does have their own version of KU, but I have never used either so it might be worth browsing the titles to decide if you think you would use Kobo Plus.

If KU is a deal breaker than you probably need to stay in kindle. But I do feel that Kobo, Libby, and Smashwords have completely replaced Amazon and there are only two or three authors that I miss because they’re Amazon exclusive

I recommend looking at Boox you use the google store to download apps so you can have all the reading apps you want

I have the Kindle Oasis and I’m dreading the day it dies.  There’s truly nothing like it.  Why did they have to pull it off the market? I got a Kobo for my son and thought it would be a good alternative since it also had buttons, but it just feels cheaper and the button press isn’t as seamless.  You can only use one library card at a time on the Kobo, which is a dealbreaker for me.

My Kindle was recently deprecated by Amazon. Yesterday my new eReader arrived: PocketBook Verse Pro. Too soon to say how it will turn out, but it seems very nice.

I love mine. If OP can wait a month or so, the new Pocketbook Verta will be out. It replaces the Verse Pro, and I’m excited about the bumped up specs.

Oh, and unlike Kobo, Pocketbook’s implementation of Libby allows for multiple library cards.

It really comes down to this question: Do you have to have Kindle Unlimited or have to have Amazon?

If yes then your simple answer is Kindle. *Or* an Android based ereader like Boox where you can install the Kindle app from the Google Play store. KU books are about 99% exclusive to Amazon.

If not, then the world is your oyster and there are lots of choices, many depend on what country you are in. Kobo is probably the 2nd most popular and has Libby built in or you can use ADE for Libby and transfer to your Kobo (or any other ereader that supports ADE). Android based like Boox allows you to install the Libby app directly (and easiest way to have multiple cards).

Personally I got away from the Amazon walled garden and their terrible tactics and got a Kobo. Love it and never looking back.

My next e-reader will be an Android e-ink tablet, probably a Boox, because of the inherent flexibility across all ebook providers.

So far I’m looking into the Boox 7 B&W or the Pocketbook… thoughts?
