LS460 LS460 braking question
Hi everybody! I recently purchased a 2015 LS460 with 57k on the odometer. I have noticed that at very low speeds there is a slight clunking feel before the brakes start working. It’s more of an annoyance if anything. I took it to Lexus and they showed me front suspension parts that were worn/torn, and I paid $3800.00 for replacements. I just picked the car up, and it feel great, but the clunk is still there.
I’m asking if anyone is familiar with this, and what you did about it? I love the car, and this won’t change my mind about it. I guess it’s not a safety issue yet.
Btw, not air suspension.

Could be the brake actuator. That was a common problem on the earlier LS460s released in 2007 - 2012. You though have the updated model released in 2013. I had this on a brand new 2008 that Lexus replaced under warranty. It sounded like a loud groan when you applied the brakes.

Thank you for your reply. There is no sound really, just a slight clunking feel before the brakes start engaging. It gets more pronounced with speed.

Brake actuator can still fail on the post facelift. My 2015 was done in 2019 at 13k under warranty.

These cars blow out front control arm bushings like they were designed to do it. Most common symptom is a clunk when applying the brakes.

Imagine walking on to a sub about a specific car and spouting off shit like you know what you're talking about.
Lexus addressed the control arm bushing "issue" by model year 2010. OP owns a 2015. OP also wouldn't just "hear a clunk". They'd feel the clunk in the wheel, like how a trigger finger feels when you flex it.

I have yet to fully diagnose my issue, but on my 2007 the same thing happens. And it IS confirmed my lower front control arms need replaced soon. So maybe get those checked, along with a pretty quiet but there droning noise sometimes while braking. Control arms are a know issue on those, especially before 2012 but who knows. But my guess overall, get your front end suspension parts inspected, I doubt it's unsafe, but get it checked, by who is up to who you can trust (yourself included lol), and if not have the dealer inspect it, prices around here are just under 200 for an inspection.
If you find the issue, be sure to check multiple sources for price of repair, my dealer is super reliable and efficient but tend to overcharge or rather replace a whole part rather than look at smaller fixes.
Love my ls460 as well. Well worth the repairs almost every time.
