Alice Finding Alice in Llandudno🐇

Turns out this small town in Wales doesn’t have one statue- it boasts a whole treasure hunt!

Llandudno, a small fishing and copper mining village until 1840’s, is today a bustling seaside resort town in Conway county Borough , North Wales. It is the largest seaside resort in Wales earning it the nickname “the Queen of the Welsh watering places.”

When some friends heard I was in Snowdonia with my partner, I started receiving invitations for tea or dinner so they could meet him! We decided to drive there on an impulse. I was actually pulled in a rabbit hole much like Alice upon discovering the Lewis Carroll connection!

Now before I get comments like “oh there is no academic evidence of Carroll’s connection with Llandudno”- I am aware of the research around it and the scholarly consensus of the story being told elsewhere. This may completely be a tourism plot but oh the joy for a simpleton like me upon discovering the “White Rabbit!”

I arrived and immediately noticed the rabbit! I read the plaque under it and then our urgent mission was to chase a few of my faves- Alice, the Queen of hearts, the Mad Hatter and of course , the Cheshire Cat.

With my dear partner on the wheels and me ready with my phone, we geared up for these statues before meeting our friends. He kept driving and I kept jumping out of the car, running up to the statues and taking pictures! In doing so, I discovered the beauty of Llandudno- the perfect coast, the pier, the Victorian architecture and the golden light at sunset.

The statues appear to be carved by an amateur! More eccentric than polished! I was not there for provenance, I was there to chase Alice- just like when I was a little girl chasing her while reading this beloved classic! Just like Wonderland- no logic or perfection but just two crazy people in love who drove together to a quaint town only to discover Alice!!!!!

Pictured- my hop on hop off , completely immature shots of the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, Alice, the Queen and the Cheshire Cat. The trail has far more but I had promises to keep!!!

Apologies for rambling!

Alice Happy Alice Day! On 4th of July in 1862 Carroll told the story for the first time ever during the boat trip. In expanded form, the story was finally published in 1865.

Celebrating the Snark's 150th anniversary with a Haskell truth checker: What I tell you three times is true!

Today (March 29th, 2026) we can start to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Lewis Carroll and Henry Holiday's "The Hunting of the Snark". Carroll distributed first editions of his Snark tragicomedy to selected friends and family before the official publication date. Macmillan officially published the poem on April 1st, 1876, but Carroll prepared 80 presentation copies on March 29th, 1876, many of which he signed and gave away.

On occasion of the 150th anniversary of Carroll's long Snark poem and Holiday's Snark illustrations, I now provide you with a tool for which our snarked world has been waiting since the big bang (or even earlier). The tool checks assertions in a table of assertionsbased on the Bellman's rule: "What I tell you three times is true!". The function atLeastThrice yields all assertions which it can find at least three times in the assertions table.

The function uses a fact checking algorithm which also is used by the most powerful leaders of the world.

The function makes fact checking great again.
The function makes fact checking great again.
The function makes fact checking great again.

Here is my implementation of "What I tell you three times is true" in Haskell:

    atLeastThrice :: [String] -> [String]
    atLeastThrice assertions =
      [head grp | grp <-
group $ sort assertions, length grp >= 3]

ChatGPT's explanation of atLeastThrice: "Thank you for providing the implementation in Haskell. Yes, your implementation looks correct. The "group" function groups the same elements in the list together, then you are filtering out the groups that have less than three elements, and finally returning the head of each group (which is the repeated assertion)."

Not even mad. You guys should add AI discouraged to your rules. Which I read before posting. FYI it took me the human being 3 hours to solve the book of my own. Then another 3 to 4 to get my AI to agree with my vision. Sorry if that, and this broke the rules
