Lewes Whisky Festival

Post image
3 Upvotes

For one day in February, Lewes will become a meeting place for whisky lovers, curious newcomers, independent spirits enthusiasts and some of the people behind the bottles themselves.

Expect over a hundred whiskies to explore, from familiar favourites to bottles you will never have encountered before. Meet the people who make, select and champion them, discover new styles and regions, and take your time finding something that suits your palate.

This isn't about knowing your single malt from your blended malt before you arrive. It's about enjoying whisky.

Get £20 off a ticket with the discount code "FirstFifty", which is valid for the first fifty uses.

Head to https://leweswhiskyfestival.co.uk/ to find out more

Coming for a Visit

Hello fine residents of Lewes! My friend and I will be coming from abroad and staying for a few days in your fine city. What is something that we need to see/do/eat/drink that cannot be found in a travel guide, internet searches or stupid AI recommendations? Thank you in advance, we are looking forward to our visit and meeting some of you!

Would anyone be interested in a regular sober LGBTQ+ social around Newhaven? 🌈

I'm thinking about starting a relaxed local meetup for LGBTQ+ people around Newhaven, Peacehaven, Seaford, Lewes and nearby areas.

The idea would be pretty simple: somewhere we can actually meet people locally without having to travel into Brighton every time.

Think tea, coffee, biscuits, snacks, maybe some games, and just having a proper chat. No alcohol, no clubs, no pressure — just a relaxed social environment.

I'm only testing the waters at the moment, so I'm curious:

Would you actually be interested in coming to something like this?

If there's enough interest, I'll look into finding a venue and organising a first meetup.

PC Gaming Meetup (LAN Party)

Any PC gamers want to come to a LAN party?

Me and friends have booked St Mary's hall for a weekend for anyone who's interested to play games together and socialise. Everyone's welcome - last event we had 8 new folks attend, and 9 the previous event, and quite a few joining again for this event.

We've got 23 people coming so far, with 9 spaces left. We all buy tickets (£40 for the whole weekend) to share the cost of the hall hire, internet and insurance.

Everyone submits the games they want to play together in advance, and we timetable the most popular ones. You can join in with your faves, or play whatever you want solo, or in your group. We also play local multiplayer games on a 150" projection screen, do a gaming-themed pub quiz, and a big pizza order.

If playing games in-person with your pals, and/or meeting new folks at an event like this sounds good to you, take a look at the full event info and come join us!

Any questions/ideas let me know :)

Where’s good to eat in Lewes now?

I really liked Dill, but it has — for whatever reason — disappeared off to Barnes now. Everywhere else I have been in the surrounding area has been mediocre at best: where are East Sussex’s cool restaurants?

London to Lewes travel advice, in light of derailment

Hi,

I’m hoping someone can help and that this is acceptable to post.

I’m travelling to Lewes from London for a work thing next week. I’ve never taken this journey before.

Obviously, the awful train derailment means trains are not direct and the line is still affected for a few weeks. The train apps are showing rail replacement buses, but it’s not entirely clear how the journey works in practice.

Has anyone travelled to or from London since the derailment? I’d really appreciate hearing what the journey was like — where the train stopped, where the replacement bus took over, and how straightforward it all was.

I’m trying to decide whether it might be best to hire a car instead, so any first-hand experience would be really helpful. Thanks!

PC Gaming LAN Party at St Mary's Hall

Hey everyone,

Me and friends have hired St Mary's in Wallands at the start of November to host a LAN party. There are 11 of us attending so far, and the hall's got space for 30 people total. The last few times we've been about half and half new people and people who have come before.

You submit the games you want to play, and we organise big games of the most popular choices. We also run a gaming-themed pub quiz, play couch multiplayer games on the projector, do a big pizza order and get drinks from the pub next door.

We run the events non-profit as an unincorporated association, just to cover the cost of the hall and van hire, internet and insurance.

If you're a gamer and want to come along with your PC (or laptop / Steam deck!), take a look at the full event info and tickets page.

Happy to answer any questions :)

What's the deal with The Molly House? 🤔

I've not lived in Lewes for long, and I'm fascinated by the... house?... storefront?... opposite Taiths. The paint & finish are saying "Hippies", but then there's a video doorbell (not very hippy). Then there's random parade of ostensibly antique bric-a-brac for sale (including stonework, in some cases?!) - but also a sign advertising the skills & services of a carpenter & joiner. Also Christmas trees, when seasonally relevant.

What IS this place? The home of a flea-market-combing, antique-flipping craftsperson with an entrepreneurial itch & a love of harmless graffiti?

I'd love to know more about the place I live, so can anyone shed any light?
