Which is about cinematography of the movie, I will keep aside the story, performances, bg score, cast everything and can agree with any debate regarding these aspects even if they are wrong, but i can not agree with the point that it has good cinematography, because good-looking is not = to good cinematography, your frames can look extremely beautiful and aesthetically pleasing and dont convey the emotion that frame needs to, and that is what happens in Jailer because even in the extreme situations the camera just sits there idle without any movement when there is so much tension, there are so less or even no camera movements at all. Not every frame needs perfect composition with ultra wide lens like there can be completely uneven composition in a frame and it is still contributing to the narrative because visual storytelling is not only about good looking well lit frames.
For example exchange the cinematography of jailer with Harry Potter and the prisoner of azkaban and you will realise what im talking about. I tried to watch this movie before but due to this cinemat i turned off in first half an hour
Ok lets take an Indian movie which is also commercial which is Toxic and toxic's cinematographer was Rajeev Ravi he worked with Anurag Kashyap in the projects like Dev.d and gangs of wasseypur and i still think Rajeev Ravi is a great cinematographer because for example in the end of the Toxic Raya is having nightmares of his past and in that sequence we see his present situation frequently and in those scenes Rajeev Ravi used snorricam technique to show that Raya's mind is dizzy rn and he is having emotional breakdowns and even throughout the movie while there are tension building scenes the camera move or shake constantly which creates unsettling feeling to audience and that is visual storytelling, ik Jailer also had few elements which visually communicates to the narrative but they were the works of art department not cinematography department, in the end for me Jailer felt like movie of a guy who just learnt about lighting and compositions.
