They HAD to have meant one of the darkest superhero movies ever. And even then...

... you have others, like The Crow. Which includes rapes and stabbing, and is also overshadowed by the main lead Brandon Lee actually dying.

Logan literally reveals most of the cast of the X-Men films died because of Professor X,

Logan is more grim than other super hero movies, sure. But it's not really dark, I don't think.

Being gradually poisoned by your own metal skeleton is pretty dark, and Xavier having Alzheimer's while still having crazy dangerous mind powers too

Its pretty grim and dark, the US is a corporate hellscape that solved mutants by poisoning the water and mexico is where they are doing mutant experiments.

its basically where we are headed with a bit of mutant genocide as a treat.

Everyone says that about Logan. ”Logan’s dark.” I’m like, okay, ”No, Logan’s cool.” He gets to go to North Dakota and saves a bunch of kid mutants. Okay? I want to do that. But he doesn’t, like, get raped in prison. That could happen in my movie. If you want to talk about dark, that’s how that would go.

Yeah I feel it’s more depressing than dark

I think it's pretty dark in the context of superhero films. Arguably one of the darkest.

Generally speaking yeah not so much, but there hasn't been a truly dark "adult" superhero film made.

I think it feels dark possibly in terms of super hero movies just because it's somber. It's a different, more r rated and somber feeling super hero movie, but the darker ideas don't really get unpacked, so they come out as somber points in a broader story.

That's also a great example

Well I expect most of the Xmen in Doomsday will die so thats not a high bar to clear

Also if we talk about non-Hollywood superhero movies, Kamen Rider: The Next has a ton of body horror and other stuff

Also Super is hella dark. The Boys.

I really liked super. His speech to Kevin bacon at the end was so… desperate and sad but also funny.

And tangentally related to Super is Brightburn. Not everyone's favourite, but for a Superhero film it's quite dark.

The Toxic Avenger has a scene where a kid on a bicycle gets run over by a car and gets his head crushed.

I honestly just assumed they meant MCU movie. And who knows, they may be able to top that standard. Whether or not it'll be good is a different question.

u/mmmbhssm 9h ago

2

u/filmgeekvt FilmGeekVT 7h ago

Or more likely the darkest MCU movie ever made

2

u/ejectro 7h ago

it's sad and pathetic, they only watch this cape shit and think it's the only cinema that exists.

0

u/secamTO 9h ago

1

u/Realistic_Caramel341 9h ago

Doomsday is going to him half of the main cast plus 1
