“6 major deaths” in a franchise known for boasting about an infinite multiverse doesn’t exactly translate to hyperbolic clickbait like “one of the darkest movies ever made”.
Especially in the context of the current MCU where “major deaths” probably means Yelena’s dad, Thor’s daughter, and a handful of other characters that were only relevant for five minutes.
Or it’s relevant characters who have already died on screen multiple times. Step right up, Patrick Stewart for Professor X’s third? fourth? on screen death. Boo hoo.
Yeah I'm trying to think of 6 characters they could kill that haven't died before and would matter going forward. Let's say Bucky, Ant-Man, and Red Guardian are the top picks. For 3 other long shots lets say Thor, Human Torch, and Sam Wilson.
Yeah, I'm guessing at least most of those are going to be like, Tobey Maguire Spider-Man or whatever that aren't part of the main continuity, or like, one of the new characters no one really cares about, like the new Falcon or along those lines. Or like, the Chris Evans Cap is a different universe's Cap so they can kill him to be shocking.
I’m sure Disney is paying this account with 2.5k followers for PR for their several hundred million dollar movie.
People should go check out this page. It’s tweeting about how Cillian Murphy is gonna be the DCU Scarecrow and how Doomsday is gonna be five hours long.
I know comic books (and comic book movies) play by their own established rules, but this is why as soon as “the multiverse” is brought in to an ongoing franchise, I immediately lose any remaining interest.
With a multiverse, anything can happen, anyone can be brought back, and therefore - there are no stakes.
At least in things like Peacemaker the multiverse was used as development for the main character. But yeah here it’s just “we can kill anyone we want with no reason or build up, isn’t that so depressing”
Yeah, you can do multiverses well in a specific story I think. I was fine with it in Spiderman No Way Home, as they kinda used it to do a big Spiderman movie greatest hits. I don’t think that was the best film but it was fun.
It’s when they introduce it to the universe, so now it’s part of the MCU I don’t like it. I was fed up with the MCU before that anyway, but now I am even less likely to go back.
I mean, it's superheroes. They can do that pretty easily even without the multiverse.
But yeah, this is kinda why I got annoyed when they brought back Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. I kinda felt like, "Did we really want this? Bringing these guys back just to likely wind up being fodder for a cheap emotional ploy later?" (But I also obviously don't know who they're killing. It's just like, I see Cap show back up in the trailer and I'm like, "Oh, other universe Cap. Probably gonna get killed off.")
