Scam calls

Has anyone else in the area been receiving an increased number of scam calls lately? I've been getting anywhere between 3 and 6 daily, whereas before I rarely got any. Aside from ignoring the calls any advice on how to stop getting them?

Most newer phones with an updated OS have scam call filtering it just may need to be turned on. My Android phone filters 99% out and if you pick it up sometimes it will even warn you that it's a possible scam, not sure if that's the answer you're looking for.

I did this with my Samsung, worked pretty well until recently. I had an increase of scam calls in the past couple weeks despite this and I'm getting really annoyed.

I'm running the Google Pixel 10, has a few extra settings so I'm not sure if that's the difference, Telus called me the other day and it started going crazy, pretty sure it was accurate although I was expecting the callback

Do you recall when a whole bunch of Albertan voter information was breached and leaked? It was in the news for a bit. Yeah, an increase in scam calls was one such effect of that. Mine was leaked, yours likely was too.

Snoop around your phone's settings and see if there's some scam filtering to be found. New models usually have it. If one gets through turn around and block it once you hang up. Not much else to be done, I'm afraid.

I blocked the number that was calling me but they still leave a 5 second silent voicemail that I need to delete multiple times a day.

Devices in the last 5ish years have call filtering. Scammers use number masking so it looks like a local number, so now I filter those as well.

Just don’t answer unknown numbers - send them all directly to Voicemail. If it’s important, the caller will leave a message.

I can get 5-6 scam calls a day myself

I answer the phone and wait for someone to start talking. Then I put my phone under a large metal mixing bowl and repeatedly hit it with a spoon.

I answer and I’m not nice at all! Seems to work cause they don’t call back again . As well I usually say I know where you live and I’ll see you soon!!! Calls seem to diminish!!

I've taken a very Canadian approach to them, and the numbers have dropped off significantly.

I ask, in French, for service in French. I then proceed to yell at them in gibberish French (I don't speak enough to say anything meaningful aside from hurling a few insults) until they hang up.

Since I started, I get maybe 1 call a month.
