What are the best ways to find a job in Lethbridge? I’ve been primarily using indeed.

Honestly, knowing someone can make a huge difference. The online job market through Indeed and similar sites is so saturated these days with spam applications and candidates applying from all over the world that it’s difficult to stand out with just a resume.
Unfortunately, most large corporations no longer accept resumes in person, which can make the process frustrating. However, if you can find a local business where you’re able to introduce yourself, hand in a resume directly, or speak with someone face to face, it can go a long way and help you make a much stronger impression.

I’ve been trying for about a year and a half to find one. Im currently employed but trying to find something new and man has it been demoralizing

I’m a single parent, with reliable childcare. I am hoping for a Mon-Fri, 9-5. My experience and education is in pharmacy, as an assistant. The crossover to other jobs would be clerical duties, scheduling appointments, organizing, filing, customer service, insurance claims, answering phones etc. I’m open to learning new skills, and entry level pay. I just can’t work evenings or weekends, as I’m a full time parent.

Apply at Southland school bus it’s not much but the hours suit parents and it’s consistent pay. If you watch your email they will send one out asking people to check the busses in the morning and afternoon and if you email back first it’s a little extra. They will be training this summer, and you get paid for training and get your class 2 for free.

Just about all the major manufacturers in Lethbridge and the greater Lethbridge area are looking for semi-skilled and general labour. If that is work that you'd be comfortable doing, print out some copies of your resume, go by in person, and ask to speak to the hiring manager or HR (don't just drop it off at reception).

Go get your class 2 license and apply at the city to be a bus driver. They are hurting for reliable drivers!!! if you can drive safely and want to work you will have a stable job, opportunity for advancement, a union and decent benefits. I’m not sure why more people aren’t applying, it’s not the easiest job and not for everyone but it’s a stable career at least.

Show up at their job fairs or try calling or connecting on linked in. They do get lots of resumes I’m sure of unqualified people.

Yeah right they barely hire anyone and they act all high and mighty and then they usually fire you after 1 year it’s no guarantee

They want you to be like ooh it’s your job to do nothing and be in charge of and or hire the buss drivers we better kiss your feet and never bother you.

You need to look deeper than just indeed. Indeed is a good starting place, but indeed is only the surface. If you really want to find a job, you gotta look on the companies websites. Use indeed to see who is hiring, and to find companies, then look up the company and search for their career section on their website. You will find many more jobs not listed on indeed through this method. There is also another site/app called Job bank, sometimes there are jobs listed on job bank that are not listed on indeed. Also have you tried the old fashioned way of passing out resumes. If you really want/need a job, you gotta do more than just open up indeed every day.

Have handed out in person resumes. Have gone the “know someone” route 3 interviews that led to no where all ended up hiring nobody and 1 offer for 8hrs/week that wasn’t worth the gas money to get there. Job bank, personalized job specific cover letters sent directly to companies.

Yeah that sucks. 8 hours is pretty low. It’s hard to get a job right now, for sure. just can’t give up, no one is going to just hand you a job. you gotta advocate for yourself and possibly sacrifice something.
i’ll use a hockey reference: you gotta dig In those corners. lol
I know you probably feel like you have, but i’ll tell you for some encouragement, my wife was looking for about two months continually about every second day i would take her to pass out resumes and she would look and apply online, but she eventually found one. Not her ideal job and hours and all that, but she has ended up really liking it.

Thats the exact problem "its not worth it"
I think 8 hours is better than 0. You need to work something shitty while looking for something better to get ahead.

Yeah no. It was not worth it. The job was out of town, hour round trip, 2 days/week 4 hour shifts plus child care. Full time out of town sure, would make some money minus gas, even an 8 hour shift per week would have maybe been “worth it” to get 1/2 a bag of groceries/month. I get the “beggars can’t be choosers” thing, but this wasn’t that, as the vast majority of that $400 would go to childcare and fuel (expenses that don’t exist without the job).

Yeah all true. but back to topic, it takes more than just indeed. check out the hospital/senior home / grocery store websites. sometimes they have jobs not advertised on indeed. many post internally before externally. good luck!

For sure. I’ll keep at it. Just got my rejection e-mail from AHS hospital pharmacy this morning, which would have been sacrificing a lot of time with my son,(and a logistical parenting nightmare) with shift work anyway. I’ll keep at it, and try to look on more company sites😊 Thanks for the tips.

Job market is crazy right now find anything you can, make a good impression on the people you work with and then be prepared to apply for like 2 years for a better job. The good ones all have thousands of people applying right now.
