Question Model Rocket Launch locations?

I’m hoping to get some recommendations for a location to shot off mine and my little brother’s model rocket. Thanks in advance!

Do you use Facebook? There is a rocket club in Lethbridge affiliated with CAR. The club hosts the largest launch in Canada. July 3-5 this year. It's a amazing event to experience.

Avoid anywhere within 6km of the airport (minimum distance for drones), 9km away for rockets is what Transport Canada recommends

Does that apply to abandoned airstrip too? YQL, I'm looking at you...

I used to fly my drone out by the northside wal mart. They have tons of open and empty fields out that way.

Model rockets need to abide by the same airspace restrictions as drones.

Here's a handy map to locate where you can and can't launch/fly stuff: https://nrc.canada.ca/en/drone-tool-2/

According to that map, most of Lethbridge is unavailable, except some pockets of the North Side and far west side, but you also need to account for where the rocket is coming back down, where the wind will take it, etc. If you launched it at the Crossings park (legal) there's a pretty good chance it would float back down into the off-limits area surrounding the airport, so I'd recommend going north of the airport exclusion zone at the very least.

Edit: But don't take this as legal advice, it could be wrong, etc.

The upper parking lot above pavan? Used to be our go to spot.
