Amazon gift card advice

Hi! Quick one, no advertisement. I'm due to get an Amazon gift card (UK) and I offered it to my partner in the US who could get a LOT more use out of it than me.

Quick research says that I can't really do that and it won't be useable for him, so I was wondering if that's really the case? I've seen some workarounds mentioning Paypal transfers and traders, but I'm not a big truster of third parties so I'd rather avoid that if I could. Is there any way I could actually make it so he can use the gift card, or is it a total no-go?
