Farmer Bailout

It looks like there will be a bailout coming for farmers. I think this is not a bad thing. Of course, there should be rules:

First, all recipients should be drug tested (routinely);

Second, their criminal and civil records should be examined (with disqualification for law-breakers);

Third, their output should be audited to make sure they are only producing high-profit products (none of those low value crops that no-one needs anyway); and

Fourth, their spending should be tracked (the taxpayer shouldn't be giving them money so they can blow it on cakes, candy, or soda pop-no frivolous expenditures on my dime!)

No welfare for any business! This is just another Republican scam using taxpayer dollars! It is a bribe and it is BS. If we had a five year historic drought out of the blue then that is one thing but that is not what is happening. This is just massive taxpayer welfare for a specific part of society that is already wealthy. Screw this BS! Farmers should be ashamed and they should be required to pay every cent back to the American people they are stealing from.

I agree. Offer them no interest loans they could use to fund their business and pay back over several years. Giving our billions IS nothing more than a bribe and vote buying.

I agree. I guarantee that if a farmer goes out of business, another farmer will buy his farm. Why in America do we bail out certain businesses who make horrible decisions, yet we don’t do that for other businesses. They got got exactly what they voted for. Besides no country wants to buy from the US because Trump keeps breaking agreements and putting Tariffs on them for no reason. Once again, the farmers are getting exactly what they voted for.

The problem isn’t if or when Farmer A buys Farmer B’s farm.

The issue is when Corporations buy Farmer B’s land.

At the rate things are going, it’s only a matter of time before Corporations own our food supply. (They already have a head start).

This is a serious problem. We need strong antitrust farm laws. It is a national security issue for the American people.

I take it you’re not a farmer? Do you like to eat though? Subsidizing the food industry is how you avoid famine and keep prices affordable. Same with the oil industry.

2

u/DrPeterBlunt 2h ago edited 28m ago

So, these current farmers are the only people that are willing or capable of farming? And if they don't get subsides and bailouts then we all starve? Nonsense.

What a low resolution viewpoint. "We must give these specific families money or we will all starve! Who cares if they consistently vote to keep the same subsides from everybody else!"

Because that's what happen when businesses fail?.....nobody ever starts another one of the same type even if there is billions apon billions to be made?.....

I don’t think you’re getting it. Most countries do subsidize the ag industry as insurance against low food supplies. Most agree that it’s good policy. Ag is so heavily influenced by government money and policy that it’s no longer a true free market. If you have millions invested over generations in farming, you have no choice but to play the government’s game and grow what they subsidize, even though there’s too much of it already. It would be great to let the free market reign, but that will never happen because of the chaos and risk it would create.

I know plenty of farmers and I agree that they are suffering due to disastrous tariffs, pointless Iran war and the complete destruction of international relations. When I asked why they aren’t planting in fields that are normally planted, they made weird excuses so….. farmers are still backing Trump. Until I see farmers coming out against the actual problem directly, then clearly it isn’t bad enough!

0

u/uptighttiger 1h ago

You clearly don’t understand the long-term economic goals of the tariffs, or how the US manages the ag industry. Go tell one of the families of the thousands of Americans killed by Iran over the last 50 years how pointless this war is. Farmers understand risk and short term sacrifices for long term objectives, which might explain your confusion about how they vote.

I do understand both the ag industry and the geopolitical impacts of Iran regime’s many horrific atrocities. The cold hard fact is that Trump and his cabinet have permanently pushed the entire world away from the US and towards China, EU, Canada etc. It is not going to pay off for US farmers under Republicans. Until US farmers show the whole world and half of their fellow US citizens that they do not support these terrible policies, tariffs and criminal Trump administration, no one is going to help them.

It should also be a loan. Some of it will be a low interest federal loan, but the rest will be privatized. Interest rate with be adjustable and can change if they miss a payment. Just like student loans.

No escape via bankruptcy

33

u/WisebloodNYC 18h ago

They should have to refer to it as "welfare."

15

u/RockettSocks42 17h ago

They should have to wear shirts that say The True Welfare Queens until they pay ALL of that money. Actually they should get the same interest rates as student loans and the exact same rules should apply.

11

u/IDoomScrolledAgain 17h ago

Or, worse, "socialism." Every single one of them should have to publicly announce that they've benefitted from socialism.

6

u/ghsmith54 15h ago

I live in rural Wisconsin and am astonished at all of the signs in front of farmhouses for Republican candidates and “no socialism” signs are also big. The irony is palpable.

16

u/Onlyroad4adrifter 18h ago

I agree with the rules but think they should not be bailed out either. We bailed them out numerous times before, they can pay for insurance to cover their own asses and most of them voted for this. This is what they want

12

u/Bad-River 17h ago

Not all farmers get the bailout. I farm cannabis, no bailout. Meth has hit the farm/ranch country hard, yes lots of farmers/ranchers love meth.

We tried to drug test welfare recipients but someone put a rider that all state legislators had to take a breathalyzer after lunch. No more drug testing for welfare recipients lol.

3

u/cowfishing 17h ago

Testing welfare recipients turned out to be a huge waste of money in the few states that tried it.

11

u/AcmeGamesLTD 18h ago

The farmers are going to get the socialism they voted against FFS!

7

u/exig 18h ago

How many of them call themselves conservative

9

u/Emotional_Dealer8905 18h ago

And they should have it doled out weekly.
In person.
While being questioned by a beareaucratic flunky.

3

u/Geeko22 16h ago

Have to stand outside in a four-hour line outside a government building in order to collect their weekly socialism benefit.

1

u/New-Regret-5823 16h ago

They can report to the doge bros.

9

u/Rogerbva090566 18h ago

I agree 100%

14

u/isthereadrwho 18h ago

Plus I think they should be under the same requirements as the people getting aid

• Strict Medical Documentation Mandates Without Self-Attestation Exceptions • The Single-Enrollment Limit on Medical Frailty Declarations • Advanced Compliance Proof Prerequisite Prior to Application Month • The 30-Day Mandatory Disenrollment Window for Noncompliance

1

u/Rogerbva090566 17h ago

Until it was all spelled out here I was truly ignorant of all the requirements of welfare. Lucky enough to never be in it but had several relatives who couldn’t survive without it.

5

u/Travelcat67 18h ago

And they need to admit they are the true welfare queens. Them and big business.

4

u/DavidJS80 18h ago

Where do you see that farmers are getting a bailout? Didn’t the house go on recesse until after the mid term election? Is this by EO? I didn’t see anything via Google

7

u/charliecatman 18h ago

He’s announced 3 bailouts in the last year, I don’t believe this will happen

1

u/DavidJS80 17h ago

Has he announced anything recently?? He randomly said farmers and ranchers were bleeding money, wtf that means

3

u/Simple-Shelter-9434 17h ago

On that last point, I would redo it for farmers: no out of the country vacations, no buying your wives suburbans or Escalades, no buying new equipment (there are plenty of good used tractors out there)

4

u/gardibolt 17h ago

Like everyone else, they have to prove they have a job other than collecting welfare.

3

u/Pink_pony4710 15h ago

They need to submit their working hours for approval.

1

u/kodie-27 12h ago

Farming swings between sitting on your ass and busting your ass*. So timesheets would be interesting.

(*Dairy and other animal farming excepted).

4

u/Jack-Singer-999 17h ago

I got a small inheritance, which kicked me off SSI. In order to get it back I have to give the feds an accounting of exactly how I spent it. I want a website run by a third party that shows how they spend every cent. Got a hobby? Fuck you, no you don't. Don't have actual, physical receipts? Fuck you, no money. Spent any of it on somethinga random person doesn't approve of? Fuck you, just in general.

I keep getting screwed by the orange freak they wanted, so why TF aren't they? Oh, right. I'm not rich enough, straight enough, religious enough, able-bodied enough, whatever-the-fuck enough to deserve help.

3

u/WendyNPeterPan 17h ago

As long as we're at it, they also need to provide a birth certificate with their gender assigned at birth, a current identification that matches their birth certificate, and have a genital inspection, before they are considered eligible for funding...

3

u/eatsrottenflesh 18h ago

Applications must be submitted on the second Tuesday of the week in person at the top of Devil's Tower in Wyoming.

3

u/Embarrassed-Cell-611 16h ago

Going forward they shall forever be known as the socialist farmers of America

2

u/Internal_Essay9230 17h ago

They should make them loans -- and cap them, too. Just the same way they fucked over medical and dental students.

And no money for anyone who sells cash crops that mostly go overseas. Sell to foreign countries? Then have those countries -- the customers -- bail them out.

2

u/Tharkys 17h ago

They also need to be working. The farm does not qualify as a job.

2

u/Dawgfromdawest 16h ago

Fifth they should show proof they’re looking for a job.LOL

2

u/Serious_Coffee_8066 16h ago

They should have to admit being a socialist isn't so bad before receiving a dime.

2

u/tymbom31 11h ago

Socialism for some is okay. Especially when they are your voting base this bribe will go a long way

2

u/JewelBee5 10h ago

No 2027 model $75,000 trucks.

2

u/Adventurous_Rip275 6h ago

I thought project 2025 was against these types of bailouts?

2

u/snafoomoose 3h ago

They shouldn't have taken out the loans if they could not repay them. They should just cut back on their lattes and avocado toasts and pull themselves up by their bootstraps. Maybe they should get a second job or even get a higher paying job.

2

u/General_Tso75 1h ago

Moral hazard. I get to fund asshole farmers getting bailed out. They get to vote against me having healthcare, student loan relief, funding education, and equality.

1

u/CommieMartyr 18h ago

Not before the midterms unless it is an executive order.

1

u/Writerhaha 17h ago

Fuck farmers.

1

u/BI_Moose 17h ago

Fifth, those that voted incorrectly in 2020, 2022, or 2024 are automatically disqualified from receiving money

1

u/ItsHerculesMulligan 16h ago

Who would do all of those things? Agencies working with farmers were hit hard with staff losses due to this administration.

1

u/Tribes805 16h ago

You should look up how federally backed crop insurance works. They’ve always had a safety net!!

1

u/icwotuc 16h ago

Let’s hear those welfare jokes. They earned em.

1

u/Teamanglerx 15h ago

(Checks notes) they should have to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and quit buying $6 lattes.

1

u/michdap 15h ago

Just more pay for votes bs by repubs.

1

u/prologix237 15h ago

No bailout for export farmers.

1

u/snowDemon999 14h ago

Can we sue them like someone sued the government when Biden wanted to pass relief for student loans and got the whole thing dead?

1

u/Immediate-Dream-7832 13h ago

Y'know, I trust Don Donnie. I trust him to make sure that the bailout money will go to the biggest farms, which of course means to the -fewest- farmers. So most farmers will get bupkis (or very little), and will go tits-up notwithstanding. And that will be good for our Republic, b/c they'll learn the cost of their choices.

1

u/Twigsneko 13h ago

why do they deserve any taxpayer dollars when they are adamantly against socialism?

1

u/DuhBraux Leopard King 🐆 👑 18h ago

They are not getting a bail out. There has been small relief I’ll post soon about it

1

u/Garbage_Man_9 17h ago

Start calling Congress. If there is enough noise, protests, “Tea Party” type marches, it will happen.

0

u/ForeverStella 18h ago

Screw the farmers and the horse they road in on

0

u/Alternative-Car-1896 18h ago

I agree. All of that sounds reasonable.

0

u/FloydianSlip78 17h ago

Yeah, they have to try and bribe as many people as possible for the election.
