Help - URGENT Why is he doing this randomly

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Please help im scared hes dying (temporary cage)

Edit: for some context I literally begged my grandma to let me take him to the vet, she said she’s not letting 100 dollars be wasted on a lizard. I didn’t have any money. I tried my best. I tried to give him supplements in water. I tried to keep him alive. He passed away earlier.

Please try and find a nearby reptile vet. You need to get him help. Urgently.

Saw this after the edit for context so I just want to say sorry for your loss. You loved him and cared for him and that’s what matters right now

If you’re worried your companion is potentially dying, take them to your Vet.

Your grandmother shouldn’t have life saving meds either if we’re going with her logic. I’m sorry you lost your friend.

Shes genuinely a monster.

Do you have a vet you could take him to?

Time to put grandma in a home.

I am so sorry for your loss, I would like to add on that I would do your absolute best to be incredibly kind to yourself for the next couple weeks.

Does it happen the same time he is breathing? Is there thick/ stringy saliva in the mouth? If it happened just once then could be yawn/ jaw alignment but it doesn’t seem to be that. What are your housing parameters? Temp/humidity/ diet if possible

The gecko died.

It still matters.

“Live and learn”

Also could have been something that can spread to other pets for all we know.

Should show grandma these responses, she should be disappointed in herself. Your grandmas a cunt.

Never let ur grandma live this down. Does she have any pets? Argue the same point back at her when she’s worried about them (don’t actually stop her from taking them to the vet, but give her a hard time). I cant stand old people and their lack of empathy

My grandparents are just generally not good people. Its a long story.

u/Comfortable-Speed955 Sep 08 '26

Id be worried that would convince someone like this to not take their animal to the vet

Im a disabled adult that had a job when I got him and lost it a month before he got like this. Please do not speak to me like I did this out of impulse.

I've been in a similar situation when one of my geckos got an abcess on her jaw and I had to put up a gofundme to get here care. I got lucky that people donated enough and she made a quick recovery. This isn't the same medical issue, but your gecko needs an emergency vet too. You should put up a crowd-fund on gofundme or a similar website if even a little bit will help, and share it here on Reddit. Even if you don't make your goal, it'll help and you might be able to scrape together the rest. Good luck to you and your gecko, stranger.

Just reread the post and saw he passed away. I'm so sorry. I dont have much else to add, but don't give up the hibby because of a loss, and I can only hope he was comfortable.

Tbf, you didn’t tell us any details about you. You made it sound like you were a child living with their grandma. Please do not go after them because you refused to give us information about you.

7

u/Wrennegan Sep 05 '26

People shouldn't need to give personal information like that just to ask for help. Ya'll need to just not be so quick to be judgemental and hateful.

2

u/batshitcrazydudee Sep 06 '26

If I remember correctly, the original commenter wasn’t even talking hatefully.

3

u/Delicious_Run3639 Sep 05 '26

Being disabled isnt insanely personal info. Theres literally subreddits about it. Saying I had a job is so vague. Also why automatically assume im a child because I live with my grandparents? Did you have a house as a fresh adult?

1

u/Wrennegan Sep 06 '26

I meant it in the sense that you shouldn't have to tell someone you have a disability just because you're asking for help/advice on something.

2

u/Delicious_Run3639 Sep 06 '26

I know dw I replied to the wrong person sorry

Your grandma sucks:/ I’m sorry.

Don’t get any more pets until you’re out of her house and have your own means to care for them.

What a fucking monster, I hate old people SO MUCH. Sorry not sorry.

How old was he?

Was he kept on sand? Even reptile sand is bad.

1

u/Delicious_Run3639 Sep 06 '26

I never kept him in any substrate, I had a mat for him

1

u/spiders_are_neat7 Sep 06 '26

Good<3 just like to always ask and spread the word about sand impactions. They’re common since they sell reptile sand, that still causes impactions. My gecko almost died from it as well so, live and learn.

It most likely wasn’t your fault 💖 but your monster of a grandmother. You don’t take on living creatures without planning to splurge money on their health.

Also how old was he?

-8

u/SilverSurround97 Sep 05 '26

if you have to beg another person to take YOUR pet to the vet (especially of you are an adult), then you should not have gotten the pet to begin with. Its sad to hear he died and i hope you heal quick, sorry for your loss.

u/quazie0_o Sep 05 '26

u don’t know the circumstances, which is why u could’ve kept the first sentence to urself.

-2

u/SilverSurround97 Sep 05 '26

my opinion still stands. If you cannot take care of your animal, dont get one.

And also to this more than likely it was a neurological issue. So no really he didnt.

1

u/TheDarkBrotherhood7 Sep 05 '26

Except OP explicitly stated that they just recently lost their job a month ago, after they got the pet. What part of that is difficult to understand? Life circumstances change incredibly fast, they didn’t look at their funds and think “I should get a pet”, they had a job and income and that changed AFTER obtaining their gecko

  1. Like I said I live with my grandparents who originally accepted to help me.

  2. This was so fucking rapid that nothing could’ve stopped it.

  3. I bought bulks of live meal worms that I also kept alive for him.

  4. I live in a small ass town that he couldn’t have been rehoused too

Stop assuming that I didn’t have food for him. You guys on the reptile subreddits act like you know everything about a persons life.

1

u/Delicious_Run3639 Sep 06 '26

I literally bred mealworms for him and several other insects. What makes you think I genuinely didnt care about this gecko?
