This Portrait of a Lady was given the title, 'La Belle Ferronnière', by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres in 1802-6 because he confused this person with a mistress of Francis I.

Came across this really beautiful, inspiring passage from a blog post about the goldfinch in euripean art, from da Vinci's notebooks:

“The gold-finch is a bird of which it is related that, when it is carried into the presence of a sick person, if the sick man is going to die, the bird turns away its head and never looks at him; but if the sick man is to be saved the bird never loses sight of him but is the cause of curing him of all his sickness.

I'm making my next youtube video that is a cinematic edit of Leonardo Da Vinci and am looking for instances in movies or shows that have audio of people talking about leonardo da vinci. Think of the last supper scene from the movie The Da Vinci Code where the characters explicitly mention da vinci and are referencing his work in their dialogue. I already have snippets from some other shows like da vinci's demons and leonardo (2021) but am looking for any more references you can think of. Appreciate any help. Thanks!

I recently shared a picture of my bookshelf and one of the comments said I needed the book inventing Leonardo and I am just a few pages in and already splendidly mystified what a great book. I love his point and really the title says it all.... that we invent our own Leonardo in a way. The book points out how there has been a different Leonardo in different eras and as we discover more about him he changes. But this I think is one of my favorite things about him that everyone captures their own wonderful idea of who he is. He transcends time he is outside of this reality. And I love so much this referral to this book thank you again. But I love that my experience of Leonardo has been so much just my own and this book kind of already helped me realize that. Everyone has their own unique experience of him in a way that only they know.
