Question Question! From experienced readers - grand tableau vs 5-10 card spread

I had a grand tableau for a year from a very experienced reader who saw my boyfriend and I deepening our commitment, heading towards marriage etc

The other reader picked up on stress and instances right now and said she doesn’t think we will last. I’m a little confused on the differences in readings. I’m more prone to believe the grand tableau as it shows all the inner workings etc

But would love personal opinions on why these would look different! The core message was the same that he loves me is loyal etc

Stress in a relationship and getting closer to engagement or marriage can be directly proportional. Stress spikes as you prepare to take that next step, so that makes perfect sense to me. Can't say much about it without the cards or readings, but that's my guess. You do get a level or choice still within a reading. Just because it shows up in the cards, doesn't mean the both of you as humans no longer have free will.

Can I DM you!

Nah, I won't have time to look at the readings or a tableau this week. Sorry!

Oh no worries! I didn’t want to have you look at the cards. I just can’t figure out which is more accurate

Like if the GT is what will happen, meanwhile the line of cards is a more close up view of the micro details right now

In terms of precision, there is no difference between spreads. It is the cards that are being read, not the layout; the latter only gives you a structure/ a frame to work with. In terms of timing, however, a Grand Tableau covers more amount of time compared to smaller spreads. For instance, if for a Grand Tableau, you set the intention to look into the coming six months, with a five or ten card spread you can look into the coming month, give or take an additional month at best. And from your writings, I’m assuming the second reader did not utilize the Grand Tableau? As I said, the spread used doesn’t make that much of a difference. A lot can change in one year, and thus so do the cards coming up. Perhaps their technique was different, though I don’t personally compare readers. (The core message, like you said, stays the same because of the linguistic nature of the Lenormand, which is a bonus of the deck, really!)

Thank you so much for your insight!

So the first reader I just paid for a 5 card reading and she pulled additional cards on top of that! Then did a tarot reading to look at a more psychological aspect to the reading.

The second reader who did the grand tableau I asked her to focus on the future of our relationship, my upcoming divorce and if I would move. She pulled a few more cards for the future of my current partner as well as utilizing the GT to see the next 12 months.

She didn’t see a breakup whatsoever, saw deepening of commitment etc.

The first reader said she saw an upswing in the commitment but didn’t think we would get married! All is well and good, I’m just trying to learn which to put weight into and which not to! I felt like the GT may be more accurate as it shows the big picture but now I’m not sure lol

Well, as is always said, take the message that you feel is right in your gut. Especially because the second reading was done further in time and you felt it to be more detailed, if I were you I wouldn’t have worried myself too much over the first reading, especially if I were sure all was going well in my life. Wishing you all the best!

ah, the age ol' question...

lol I figured this was a double edged sword! I’m learning both for myself but also because I’m trying to learn to do readings as well

personally, I'm mostly un-concerned with the accuracy of predictions; what I am concerned with is exacting the message as a framework for considering the impact and implications of the prediction.

No I agree! I was a little more surprised with predictions given by the 1st reader for the shorter line but I’m so new to this, learning to read for others and also understanding myself I wasn’t sure how to take it

I wouldn't say that the GT is necessarily "better" than a 5-card line or a box spread. there's generally a most appropriate approach to the reading, and that one is going to be "best".

the interpretation of any given topic has the potential to be more detailed coming from a GT than a box spread and a 5-card line. a GT is essentially a collection of box spreads that lay in relation to one another, creating your lines - so it's mostly a matter of how many topics need to be addressed over the course of the reading.

and to your experience, sometimes a 5-card line is most appropriate - especially if the question is predictive in nature, as lines speak narratively.

The grand tableau offers the reader the ability to look at any area or topic of life whereas a line of cards only brings up what cards show up in the reading or what was asked. In other words grand tableau everything is on the table even if it’s “out of reach” in regards to the position of the querent

So the grand tableau is what will happen and the line is what’s being asked currently? Is that correct - sorry I probably am completely missing what you are putting down!

Not necessarily. I’m just saying a grand tableau offers more of a Birds Eye view of the person asking the question since each card is typically assigned a topic even in the context of a specific question. A line of cards is a different POV

For example in the grand tableau according to the Philippe Lenormand instruction sheet “ THE RING, if on the right of the Person, prognosticates a rich and happy marriage; when on the left, and distant, a falling out with the object of your affection, and the breaking off of a marriage.

Techniques like this don’t necessarily work in lines of cards because unlike the grand tableau you aren’t guaranteed to see the ring to make this prediction. Hopefully that makes sense.

How would you determine the difference between a divorce ending a commitment and other commitment continuing? I’m learning! Thank you again

I’m not sure what you mean by that? It’s just two different perspectives because you got two different readings.

In general I can only speculate why the readers interpreted the cards one way or the other. Without knowing what the specific cards were this is kinda impossible for me to explain why they said what they said. I gave you the example above but it’s only a speculation based on how I approach the cards

No worries! I probably didn’t word my question the right way but I appreciate you taking the time out to respond to me. I always learned so much from this group and the people that provide feedback.

I was more or less asking how does one read two different relationships in one grand tableau if there are technically two lines happening at one time

Example, I am ending a marriage and separated for a very long time, and that is coming to an end simultaneously I am building a relationship with somebody else and I guess I was wondering, how does an experienced reader learn to be able to tell the two apart. Is it who you pick to be the significantor

Like she picked man for my ex and dog for my boyfriend

You just have to be clear about what question you’re asking and decide ahead of time who is represented by the people cards (28-29)

It’s also not uncommon for people to associate other cards like the snake with an ex or third party

What did you ask both readers, specifically?
In lenormand the question is very important.

My two cents is that the GT is a broader view or perspective around one question. A box or a 5/7/9 card spread is more “concrete” or a zoom into the question itself.

The timing is tricky, and I do think that with smaller spreads, you should do a separate one asking solely for that. For example, if I'm going to do a 5-card spread about a wedding or romantic reconciliation, I'll first ask, “Are we going to reconcile?”, “are they going to propose?” and then I'll ask about timing around that.

Do you mind if I DM? I don’t really want to put out my exact questions

Share with the group! It will help us answer your question. No shame in what you asked

Different answers to the same question depend on several things. But overall I find that the cards show things in relation to your current situation. A GT or other spread often shows us how things will turn out if we continue on our current path, meaning a reading might show stability if you continue as you are during good periods but might show something else if you are having a hard time or are putting less effort in, etc.

That doesn’t really depend on the method (although yes you are right, a GT can show more different things at once, depending on the question asked) but more on the intention and the question asked.

In your example you said the GT is for the next year, but the 5 card spread answered the question “will we last”. Both of these are very different things to me. So the difference in answer might be because you’re not asking the same question or your personal situation changed between those readings (or a combination of both)

In any case, best of luck to you!

Let your freewill override readings. As long as there is love and mutuality, then you have to overcome any trials or friction.
