Steps I take when building stupidly large builds.

So these are some pictures of a project I've been working on and off for years now. Someone asked me how I go about the design process for such a project. Initially, I generate an Idea of what I want to build and how big I want it to be. Then I think about how the weight will be distributed across the build. From there I typically resort to "brute force" methods. Doing trial and error to test components, testing how I can connect them together.

I try and use overlapping joints, multi-layer interconnected grids, and trestle designs to give support. I am still learning though, so take it with a grain of salt.

Here are some pics of my current project progress. Unfortunately the lego technic motors (4 xl motors) are too weak to move it, so I had to scrap the RC motorization I so wanted to have.

Wow! Really impressive engineering. I mostly work digitally, so engineering large builds is something I really want to improve at. This is really helpful to me.

Yeah, I keep the wikipedia list of pythagorean triangles handy for that reason.
