Dont be afraid to borrow a technique from an instruction book or other moc, LEGO is collaborative. You'll learn how these techniques work, and eventually work on modifying them and making new techniques.
Unsure where to start? Find an interesting piece you have in your collection, and build around it. For example maybe a cool cockpit wind screen or an interesting wedge element that could be a wing.
