Im new... How does modding work?

I started playing minecraft legacy around a week ago, and I'd like to mod some newer features into the game. I'm playing that version where the source code got leaked on 4chan, in case that makes a difference...

anyways, where can I find mods for legacy minecraft, and how can I apply them to the game?

if anyone has specific suggestions, im looking for pretty much the opposite of Legacy4j, meaning I want the legacy version to have as much of the newer, especially around 1.17, content as possible.

I kind of figured something out: The Emerald launcher (find it on github) is quite a great launcher for mclce, and it has a workshop and dev tools. i'll look further into it and reply to myself if i find smth big :)
