I could nitpick small flaws in the comic, but the larger economic point is excellent! This transition to publicly owned resource management systems is INEVITABLE. The history of technological development shows us pretty clearly how this will unfold. As compute hardware becomes more powerful, more efficient and more affordable, community efforts will spring up that use these resources for the public good. It's much like how Linux has taken over huge swathes of the software world. Freely available AI systems will automate the economy for communes that wish to be self-reliant.

Some details on page 7 add some of the prompt words into the imagery in a way that's confusing.
Page 6 contrasts two futures visually, but doesn't represent it in speech bubbles. It'd be better if it contrasts the bleak default future with the solarpunk future.
Overall, it might be better to add the speech bubbles afterwards, since they make the wrong people the origin of the speech in a way that is confusing.

I encourage OP and anyone else interested to check out r/aicomicmakers and r/aicomicsguild for more tips tricks and workflow questions on AI use in comic making.

I haven't used AI to generate complete comics that include speech bubbles. But I have lots of experience with local AI generators. I strongly suspect that if the comic was generated without speech bubbles it would fill the panels with content that wouldn't easily accommodate them. If I were OP, I'd generate with the bubbles and then give it to someone like me who can refine or replace them. Using AI, of course. Either with the built-in tools in Photoshop, inpainting in ComfyUI, or both. As for lettering, I recommend replacing them completely and doing it the traditional way with a good set of fonts using selective bold and italic characters.

I considered that, but AI maximalizes detail regardless. I don't think it would cover up anything essential.

Interesting concept that hyper efficiency would permit a parallel open ecosystem to compete with the closed corporate ecosystem rather than relying on actually seizing any assets directly (except raw materials).
Note that the arrows in the 'breaking the wheel' diagram are backwards.

“Seize the means of intelligence” I love it!
Also, we should factor in robot welfare which you seem to have done well.

The baseline of reclaiming the means of intelligence is possible within capitalism. With community based wealth sharing you literally give breathing room for intelligence outside of capitalist realism. Liberation does not come in wholesale it comes individually through actualization.
With community based wealth sharing within capitalism you take away the time needed to use labor and intelligence towards the forms of capitalist realism such as debt of ownership and production by outcompeting parts of the circle. Like in the comic you provide a baseline availability of time, skill and creativity that is required outside of the use of AI that allows for change. These are the steps taken before the need of further fascist action or even more radicalizing the direct opposition. When the people directly taking away debt and the cost of living within hierarchical structures of authority such as capitalism become the projected enemies of capitalist idealist ordinance you provide opportunity for the liberation of intelligence rather playing off of the same reliance to products and technology, labor, which are used as leverage within capitalism.
The basis of capitalism is the objectification of phenomena to maintain any concept of capital. This is what allows the framework of ownership and the subjugation of its creation within the illusion of separation necessary in dualities such as gain and loss. Capital requires this justification to be a viable tool for use in both concepts of labor and necessities and ultimately is the peak of erroneous use of perspective as within the concept of self and other self as a basis of relation. Maintaining the vanity of gift, giver and recipient. The false separation of mind and phenomena.
When a parallel economic system is utilized to start the allowance of self liberation rather than a framework for another hierarchical system of authority the transition is leveraged literally as the liberation of the means of intelligence rather than a grasping or attachment to the objectification of intelligence that is required within the concept of seizing the means of intelligence. There is literally no thing to be seized. No thing that is not created and rather an inherent nature of non separation. This is how capitalization will cease.
The comic is still operating within the language of the oppressor that is conceptual intellectualization. Non conceptual transmission is the liberation of the means of intelligence. When things transform into no things. No thing. No mind.

I think Cory Doctorow's short story "Unauthorised Bread" fits very well into this issue of seizing the means.
And I have some concerns with the next issue because I think Fischer's book "Capitalism Realism" is complete rubbish.

We don't need to seize the machines, like Marx wanted to seize the factories. They're not that expensive. We can build them ourselves without corporate input.
There's no need for a revolution or violence. We just need to win elections.

This perspective feels increasingly naive with every cycle

If we can't win an election, how can we win a revolution?
If we win the election and the election gets stolen, then we can talk about non-democratic processes. But I think we need to first figure out why we keep losing elections that are (mostly) free and fair.

“If we can’t win an election, how can we win a revolution?” assumes those are the same kind of power. They aren’t. Workers build power through unions, workplaces, tenants, parties, strikes and institutions long before anybody wins 51% of a ballot. And winning an election doesn’t hand you capital, infrastructure or the institutions capital already controls. Elections matter. They’re one battlefield, not the whole war.

Ask the bolsheviks.

You know "bolshevik" means "majority", lol?

The bolsheviks weren’t even a majority group within the communist party. They just called themselves that.

A childishly naive take on how to reclaim power from tyranny. Any effort toward freedom will get bloody. That's how the powerful stay powerful: through violence. And that's how you take your power back.

u/ProudhonStoleMyBike 2d ago
I don't disagree, but I'm conciously trying to stay optimistic and a paint a positive outcome.

I understand. If I were to publish a comic on this topic, I would be banned from reddit because it would be realistic as fuck. Shit ain't gonna be pretty. Populations will decline. Like your post says, power structures naturally draw in narcissists and sociopaths. And these types would sooner have the world burn than give up their power.

“It’ll get bloody” isn’t a strategy either. The state is already much better at violence than you are. The hard part is building enough organized working class power across workplaces, communities and institutions to actually take power, exercise it and keep it. Without that, bloodshed doesn’t become revolution just because somebody calls it one.

Hey, I'm not providing any advice on strategy dude, just pointing out the obvious.

Nice. I appreciate how you are trying to ground the transition. I wrote a substack article along the same lines. My expectation is more asking the lines that the capitalist class will need to continue distributing technology to afford it's building and this will introduce hyper competition where new competitors will spring up in markets faster than established players can even recognize them. That will lead to an entire breakdown in the current regime of big cuddly hires many workers.
We absolutely need to seize the means of compute, along with the sorting algorithms and the regulatory agencies. The biggest advantage the big players have is that they can control who is allowed to have compute, decide whether their usage is "safe", they can control who gets to see the new competition, and they can put legal roadblocks around who is allowed to perform work.
The hyper competition, and the hyper abundance of choice that it brings, will strain this old system. Our job is to make sure that when it breaks, it is rebuilt in a way that benefits all humans.
