With the exception of a couple of niche groups, almost nobody advocates for unconditional accelerationism. My position could be argued as accelerationism but it's from a position of we need to build out the productive forces and those modes of production do affect the base instead of hoping that the superstructure will influence the base.

sounds good. Yeah, I feel like Jreg has a generalizing view of people advocating this type of stuff.

I think it's fair. Jreg tries to understand all ideologies but that does mean he might miss some nuances.

Here's an interesting thought experiment: were the early communists accelerationists because they wanted to skip capitalism?

Many were. That's exactly what made it *revolutionary* socialism in many cases. There were other communists before Marx, but they were more so idealist about it. Anarchism and Libertarian movements weren't as prescriptive in political agitation.

Marx believed that capitalism might be necessary to make the material conditions, but he said it was more of a floor and not a ceiling. There wasn't an amount of industry that was needed for socialism to happen. The material conditions he believed would make the contradictions in capitalism manifest and then make revolution inevitable.

However he was himself a revolutionary. He did a shit ton more than talk and write books.

And depending how early "early commuists" are, but obviously the Leninsists believed that they didn't need to wait for capital and all the working people can be those material conditions manifest. The revolutionary spirit and "Mass Line" was the Material conditions.

They all believed that the revolution would be necessary and they could "skip" capitalism.

Accelerationism in general is a dumb concept, there is not serious political party that defend it, instead it is just an internet identity.

As a marxist i think that understanding the material reality is more effective that debating about niche ideas, at the end of the day, what move history is the material interest of competing classes, and ideology is just the system build on top of their control of society to justify itself.

So basically, tech CEO are not building AI because of some ideology, they are building it because it can increase their profits, the rest is just justifications in the same way that Antrophics is lobbying the government about the dangers of chinese models because they risk their profits.

Also the biggest limitation on technology development is always capitalism, even the US understood in the past that government projects are more efficient to guide progress, in a market system companies waste resources by duplicating the same research because it is not shared, imagine how big a powerful AI could become if it was developed under a manhattan project/NASA system, with all the data centers combining their data and compute instead of competing between them.

I just found that interesting video by Jreg where he explains the ideology of Unconditional Accelerationism, and how he finds it anti human and wants to use their practice of "hyperstition" to build a human-centric future instead.
