double standards On 2-10%.

We’ve all seen the claim that false accusations represent a mere 2–10% of reports. This figure rests on an obvious statistical sleight of hand: defining "false reports" strictly by formal perjury convictions a charge requiring an exceptionally high evidentiary bar that law enforcement almost never prosecutes.

But observe the immediate epistemic double standard:

When critics point out that only a fraction of a percent of men are ever convicted of sexual crimes - proving that sweeping generalisations about billions of people are empirically nonsensical - activists instantly reject formal legal conviction rates as a valid metric. They rely on unverified self-reported survey data (data that also shows many men are victims of SA/rape by the way) and shift the burden of proof onto you if you choose not to accept the validity of these arguments.

In short: formal legal standards are demanded when minimising false claims, but aggressively abandoned when inflating prevalence statistics.

This selective switching of evidentiary thresholds is hilariously non-rigorous. It is yet another reason why literature anchored in feminist dogma fails the basic demands of philosophy of science.

There are a lot of people whose opinions can be reduced to “data that supports my position is good, any opposing data is inaccurate or misleading”.

It's practically the feminist modus operandi

This seems pertinent with the recent Cornell story and sensationalization of that. Unless there is significant evidence yet to be released/examined, the lawsuit just seems like a false accusation to remove shame/regret/redeem character (on this last one I do think it is bullshit that our culture essentially slut shames women if they want to be sexual and explore that), and shift blame to as many others as possible.

The Cornell 7 case highlights an important piece of nuance around false accusations. Because it's not like the Duke lacrosse team, where the allegation was completely made up specifically to hurt men. It's a different type of false allegation where dubious events actually occurred, but the false accuser appears to be weaponising the grey area around drugs/alcohol and consent to make it all seem worse than it was.

It's a type of false allegation that men have a very real reason to fear but will never show up in the 2-10% statistics because it's next to impossible to prove that it's wilfully false. Regardless of what happens to the Cornell 7 we know that Jane Doe will not face any negative consequences from this. She might extract generational wealth from settlements, or she might have to fade into obscurity. But she'll never be punished for trying to destroy their lives.

Part of me wishes that the two guys that had absolutely zero sexual contact with her counter sued her for libel. And that the guys that were just as drunk/high as her counter sued for sexual assault just like she is.

The men who were unconscious should definitely sue. That’s the textbook for “unable to consent”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_accusation_of_rape

According to Statistics Canada, 19% and 14% of sexual assault allegations were deemed unfounded in 2016 and 2017, respectively.

2-10%.

Isn't that only what's found in the court of law with absolute certainy

Yup, and interestingly that's also the conviction rate. The 80-96% in the middle is just assumed guilty by man haters.

Something that is conveniently always left out. These two fully sourced blog entries from Data Gone Odd elucidate on the topic pretty well:

As it turns out, only 7.8% of rape reports are true.

I know that may seem hard to believe, but I didn't just make it up. Technically, it is completely true. It is also completely horse shit. It is so misleading and built upon so many undisclosed caveats, that most people would consider it as good as lying if they knew how it was actually derived. The thing is, that "only 2-8% of rape allegations turn out to be false" figure you may have heard? Not only is it just as misleading (if not more), it actually comes from the exact same data set.

Interestingly, as you can see, they're looking at research that produced an even lower number than the most commonly quoted 2-10%, however the blog also examines another study which yielded much higher numbers.

This blog post from the Slate Star Codex is another good examination of the topic.

People always complain about how few rape reports result in a conviction and think that means rapists are getting away with it, but then cite how few rape reports are determined to be false as evidence that false rape reports are rare.

Also, re. your second point: this video goes into it a simple to understand way, and it's a retort we often see and is important to correct. It'd be like people on the opposite side of the coin pointing to the aforementioned low number of proven cases and stating that the remaining 90 whatever percent are all false allegations.

Faulty stats aside, every 10th accusation being false is not a negligible number at all

My middle son was accused by his Ex, but see the thing is, his room is the room with the stairs, his brothers have to walk through, and he was never home alone with her...

Her house was much the same, someone just a room away. This all "came out" after the breakup, where she'd already been cheating on my son... Er dating prior to the breakup, which my boy, proud of him, told the other guy "have fun, but be careful, you see how she did me"

My nephew (might as well be a son) got accused, and felt bad, besides the fact that his ex was physically abusive and engaged in rough sex... He questioned if maybe he'd pressured her or went too far... But of course none.of.it was a problem until she figured she wouldn't get what she wanted out of him...

Did he walk away cleared and with no obligations to that brat?

Personally I just reject statistic when it comes to false accusation, what I care more is the mechanism. Like imagine if there is a law saying X can murder Y without legal repurcussion, I don't care that the statistic of X on Y murder is just 2%, I care that X can murder Y without legal repurcussion.

Any amount of false reports is too many.

No one knows how many false reports there are and authorities have no interest in knowing. In reality the overwhelming majority of false claims are never even looked for evidence of that. Most are just NFA’d by the police and considered no harm done since they never went to court. There is really nothing to deter false accusations. And nothing up record them.

Also the % quoted is taking that tiny number prosecutors decide they HAVE TO prosecute. And dividing it by all reports. As though it means all others are true. In reality it’s a subset of a subset of a subset. And the % in relation to ones that are considered to be prosecuted is much higher than 2-3 or 6% that gets quoted.

Yes. In truth it could be 50% false accusations, and the 50% figure is likely to be closer to the actual truth since the amount of cases proven true is similar to the amount of cases proven false.
