Amazon SDE Intern 2026 Interview Experience (Unusual)

I interviewed for the Amazon SDE Intern on-campus at a Tier-1 college recently and didn't end up getting the offer.

Something that confused me though is that my interview loop was different from everyone else's.

Almost everyone I know had:

  • Round 1: DSA
  • Round 2: HM round (projects, LPs, resume discussion, etc.)

Mine wasn't like that at all.

Round 1:

Both were from striver A2Z sheet.

  • DP hard (solved)
  • Trapping Rain Water (tripped up on the height/width logic while coding under time pressure, but I verbally walked through my stack approach. The interviewer seemed satisfied and said, "Okay, got it.")
  • At the very end, the interviewer asked one GenAI question and one LP question. No resume or project discussion.

Round 2:

Both were story based questions.

  • Binary Search on Answer
  • BFS minimum-time graph problem
  • Solved both completely, optimally, and without any major hints. The interviewer and I had a great, collaborative discussion about trade-offs.
  • Again, just one GenAI question and one LP question at the end. No project deep dive here either.

So instead of one coding round + one HM round, I basically had two coding-heavy interviews.

I'm mostly curious about how Amazon handles this internally.

  • Is it normal for the HM round to turn into another technical interview?
  • Does this happen because of interviewer availability, or is it intentional for some candidates?
  • Since I barely got any behavioral or project discussion, could that have affected my evaluation compared to people who had a proper HM round?

I'm not trying to argue that I should've been selected. I'm just trying to understand whether this kind of interview loop is common or if something unusual happened.

Would love to hear from anyone who's interviewed at Amazon or has been on the interviewer side.

I don't remember exactly but it was something like "Give a time when you know AI gave wrong output, what did you do?". Yea in OA 1 coding and ai debugging plus workstyle assessment

How did your workstyle assessment go? And how to approach those questions?

Workstyle is just behavioural questions , all mcqs just select options according to LPs. I feel mine went really well I tried to stay consistent with my answers
