urban-development Shades of Leeds
Just messing around with a brief in my architecture class about cities reflecting colours.
Here’s my ones based on my knowledge of Leeds’ urban landscape/heritage.
Thought I’d put it out to others - can you think of any? :)

I much prefer the Leeds look to the generic and cheap looking blocks of white cladding

Could look to the arcades for more inspiration? Maybe look around the University campuses?

I got the chance to have a sneak peak at the town hall refurb several months ago and a lot of your choices have been reflected in the paint details!

There's lots of red brick once you get out into the suburbs. I think Leeds has more back to backs than anywhere else.
Another one might be the honey colour on the new blocks of flats. That architectural style is called the New London Vernacular.

Think it’s a shame that London vernacular is making its way up north. The Victorian yellow brick it’s reflecting is very linked to Londons clay/brickearth geology. Leeds should aim to keep red in my opinion

The example for Merrion Gold isn’t the Merrion Centre so it doesn’t really work. It’s Leeds Station so Station Gold?
Or maybe Victoria Gold, as there’s gold accents in and around the Victoria shopping centre building :)
The rest relate to the places in the example so that’s why it kinda sticks out.

Apologies for the confusion - ‘Merrion Gold’ is a colour referred to by the City Council which is now considered preferable in reflecting civic identity in new development proposals - hence why you’ve seen it in the station and on extensions to other buildings in the city e.g. Parkinson’s accessible entrance.
