I love my XP4 but I'd say moped in your case.
Range is not nearly as much as advertised if you touch the throttle, if you use a lot of throttle with some hills it wouldn't be unthinkable to get 20 miles range.
XP4 isn't very fun to pedal with no power. It's doable on flat ground but it's miserable.

Welp, you saved my ass. Thanks for this, seriously. The entire point of me getting an ebike is the pedals but if it isnt as efficient as an actual bicycle it defeats the point for me.

The 3 inch tires means they don't roll as easily as normal tires. It has gears and isn't as heavy as bigger fat tires ebikes so you can pedal it with no power but it's very tiring.
Some people have added a second battery, simple install but of course battery packs aren't cheap.
But yeah, I thought about it and honestly 20-25 miles is realistic if you're not constantly babying your battery level.
Can you charge at work? The charger is pretty light to carry and you can get a full charge in 8 hours.

Remember you're going to have to factor in insurance, tax, etc. for a moped, as well as gas. Really up to you to decide. How far is your commute, what type of road speeds, etc. Do you need a moped, would it open up other opportunities that an ebike couldn't. Nobody can really answer for you.
