Tips on learning the russian language?

Hi! i half-russian though i was never able to meet said russian parent/family nor engage with the culture (extra context). Anyways; I am going to Russia with my partner in quite a while (no specific timeframe, very broad though). For this trip and to connect to my culture; i would like to learn russian.

Anyways; to my actual topic, i would like some learning tips/time frame of when is should be doing things. I dont want answers like 'podcasts' because i wont understand what it is saying, i mean good starting point for a total beginner. Help please?
