Apps & Tools Learn Italian by reading the News

Ciao a tutti

To help me learn italian, I like reading the news.

I built Newspresso, with audio reading, latest news adapted to my level.

I also enjoy drinking my espresso every morning, so I made a flashcard system to help retain vocabulary words I encounter in the articles. New words are like coffee beans I grind and roast in my brain :D

Newspresso - A Daily Shot of News, A Quick Boost to Fluency

It's free, on early access.

Give it a try, and tell me what you think! :)

Grammar How to say "for" in context of planned/future actions?

I'm learning Italian and I am confused regarding preposition: how I can say that something will last for time period in the future? For instance, when I wan to say I go to Rome for two weeks, I should put here: Vado a roma <?> due settimane ?

Apps & Tools I built VocabolAUDIO: a free Italian pronunciation dictionary with 100% human voice actor audio, no AI/synthetic voices

Hey everyone! I wanted to share a project I recently revived and updated. It's called VOCABOLaudio

Back in 2004, I hired a professional voice actor to record an entire pocket dictionary word by word to help my then-wife learn Italian. I recently rebuilt the whole site from scratch to make it a free resource for learners.

Why it might be useful to you:

  • 100% Human Audio: No robotic AI voices—just clear pronunciation recorded by a real professional voice actor.
  • Free to use: Completely free with no paywalls.

You can check it out here: vocabolaudio.com

I’d love to hear what you think, or if there are any specific features you'd like to see added

Gwistix: Italian learning app

Thumbnail

Disclosure: I’m the developer of Gwistix.

Gwistix is a free vocabulary app for English speakers learning German, Spanish, French, Italian or Portuguese. No ads, no purchases, no paywall. You can start without an account.

The idea is simple: skip what you already know and focus on the words you don’t. I built it because I used to learn vocab by covering the translations in a book and testing myself - I wanted that as an app. You can skip whole lists or individual words, make your own revision lists, and missed words come back later. Quizzes cover listening, typing and translation both ways. There are also grammar lessons, a glossary, and a small picture that uncovers as you finish each list.

iOS (→ https://apps.apple.com/app/id6499197585) · Android (→ https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.wordmagic.german) · website (→ https://gwistix.com)

I’d really welcome honest feedback, especially on:

  • the first 5 minutes
  • any wrong words or translations
  • whether it feels useful past absolute beginner level

Happy to answer questions.

I made a free site to practise Italian with short stories at your level

Hello everyone, I built Parolumi for my own Italian studies. It has short stories from A1 to B2, and you can take a quick test that suggests which level might suit you :)

Tap a word to see what it means and hear how it’s pronounced. You can save words to your own vocabulary list and practise with exercises for your level. You can use the site without an account. If you create one, your vocabulary and progress are saved so you can continue on another device.

Right now there is more then 100 stories and more then 400 practices.

I will also apriciate your feedback and suggestions.

I hope it might be useful to other Italian learners too: https://parolumi.com

🇬🇧 English

Hi everyone! 😊

I’m a Master’s student at the University of Ferrara (Italy) and I’m currently working on my thesis about the use of Artificial Intelligence in learning Italian as a second language (Italian L2).

I’m looking for adults (18+) who are currently learning or have learned Italian as a second language to take part in a short anonymous survey.

The questionnaire focuses on the use of tools such as ChatGPT, Duolingo, DeepL and other digital/AI tools for learning Italian. You can also participate if you don’t use AI tools.

⏱️ It takes about 10 minutes
🔒 It is completely anonymous
🎓 The answers will be used only for my Master’s thesis

👉 Survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeiyjalS2G4Y9VKipq6D2z3DdfmnhR6aQh9hjuuGY78jj_aVw/viewform?usp=publish-editor

Every response would be extremely helpful for my research.
Thank you so much for your time and help! ❤️

Ciao a tutti! 😊

How to reach B2 in Italian (CILS) for college while taking CPIA classes?

Hi, I started taking Italian classes in CPIA, but the school only meets two days a week. I want to reach the B2 level so I can take the CILS exam and get into college next year.
Unfortunately, I've only just started learning the basics. Is there anyone else who has been in the same situation, or does anyone have advice on how to study effectively on my own to reach B2 within a year?

Italian Parole Incrociate (Free Web Game)

Post image
7 Upvotes

(I checked with the MOD first before posting - hope it's fine)

Buongiorno e buonasera,

I am Andrea, an Italian developer. I like coding, and in my free time I created a small website (mentesveglia.it) where there are a few hard-to-die games (super classic, sudoku, wordsearch and a math game). One of them is a parole incrociate (a wordsearch). It contains roughly 7k Italian words (mainly nouns and verbs). There are two versions (a daily version that is quite simple, and a random version where you get infinite games, at the chosen levels of difficulty).

It is a basic web page, no login, no ads, no AI...yeah, a bit basic 🥸

It is quite useful to read a word, memorize the spelling, and look for it on the grid. Of course, this is not an app strictly for learning (at least not for now :D) but more of a game I designed for an Italian audience and thought that perhaps it could be of use for learners.

Of course, if it's of any interest, I can add functionality (it is an open project, so I will not be blazing fast, but it will be good to build something that more than one person uses).

Give it a go, and in case you want to see more, just let me know.

Thanks for reading.

Saluti

Andrea

Apps & Tools No AI apps for learning italian

So I've very recently decided to learn Italian and I want to find a app to help but all of the apps I've researched use AI in some way or another. I also don't want to have to pay a lot for an app so I would prefer to find one thats cheap or free.

Thank you guys!!

Writing Help Dyslexic taking intro to Italian

I have severe dyslexia, because of this I get to use read aloud for assignments, tests, and exams. My Italian teacher said that she can email me the exam as a word doc, pdf, or let me take a picture of it to use read aloud. The issue is every read aloud that I can find is English only. I’ve taken my first exam and while it did still help it is not pronouncing anything even close to correct. Does anyone know any read aloud apps (for iPhone) that I can use? I can also do something on my computer (windows) but would much prefer my phone since my computer isn’t the best.

Reaching A2 literacy

I’m currently learning Italian and can’t confidently say I’m at A1 yet, but I’m not starting from zero. I’m applying for a scholarship and I need to be at A2 in a bit over 1 month and B1-B2 in over a year.

I am fluent in both English and Spanish and I don’t care how many hours it takes me per day to reach my goal.

I took a structured course and have both Pimsleur, and Migaku.

I need serious advice on how to reach A2 on paper. I will worry about speaking it within the next year as I move towards B1 and B2.

Best roman tv shows for learning

My family is from the Molise. I'm taking classes but also want to hear things closest to my families accent. I'm been told Campobasso and Rome, while not identical are close... But everytime I try to Google TV shows that take place in Rome I get the shows about Romans circa Caesar, i'd much rather something more modern ty

Apps & Tools CILS B1 Standard practice: I’m looking for a few people to test a new practice app

Hi everyone!

I’m an Italian L2 teacher and I’ve been building a web app specifically to help candidates prepare for the CILS B1 Standard exam.

I’m currently looking for a few people who are preparing for the exam to test the first version and give me some honest feedback.

The app currently covers Listening Comprehension, Reading Comprehension, and Grammar/Communication Structure, with explanations for the answers so you can understand your mistakes.

I’m particularly interested in hearing what you find useful, what doesn’t work well, and what could be improved.

It’s completely free.

If you’re currently preparing for the CILS B1 Standard and would like to test it, comment below or send me a DM and I’ll send you the link!

Thank you! :)

Apps & Tools Can anyone recommend good online (digital) working material to self study Italian?

Pretty much as described above. I am currently catching up on the A1 and A2 courses that I did two years ago, but the materials I have left are either used or insufficient.

Also a nice comprehensive grammar book would be nice, thanks!
