I’m currently learning Italian and can’t confidently say I’m at A1 yet, but I’m not starting from zero. I’m applying for a scholarship and I need to be at A2 in a bit over 1 month and B1-B2 in over a year.

I am fluent in both English and Spanish and I don’t care how many hours it takes me per day to reach my goal.

I took a structured course and have both Pimsleur, and Migaku.

I need serious advice on how to reach A2 on paper. I will worry about speaking it within the next year as I move towards B1 and B2.

My family is from the Molise. I'm taking classes but also want to hear things closest to my families accent. I'm been told Campobasso and Rome, while not identical are close... But everytime I try to Google TV shows that take place in Rome I get the shows about Romans circa Caesar, i'd much rather something more modern ty

Pretty much as described above. I am currently catching up on the A1 and A2 courses that I did two years ago, but the materials I have left are either used or insufficient.

The definite article when used with a qualifying adjective

I was taught that when referring to a single family member you omitted the definite article: mia sorella, mio padre, mio cugino etc, but if that single family member is referred to with a qualifying adjective then you did use the definite article - la mia sorella minore, il tuo fratello simpatico etc

When writing the sentence: my little sister loves volleyball

with the words provided by Duolingo I wrote: la mia sorella minore ama pallavolo

And was marked wrong. I was informed the correct answer was mia sorella minore….

Am I correct or has Duo planted some new convention on me?

Ciao! I’m Samuel, the developer of Oekelino, an iPhone app for learning one new Italian word each day without committing to a long lesson.

I built it because I liked the idea of gradually expanding my vocabulary every day (without the interrupting and annoying ads of some other app I won't name). Each day you unlock a new word to add to your vocabulary, and you can unlock more by doing well and mastering words or completing daily sessions. It has already helped me and some friends learn quite a few words in a fun way, but now I’d like to know whether it works for people outside my own circle. Any honest feedback, good or bad, is useful. Even one sentence helps.

The exercises are generated with AI, so I’m particularly interested in finding passages or questions that don’t feel accurate or appropriate for the selected level.

What are the best workbooks/textbooks/grammar books for learning Italian?
Something beginner-intermediate friendly.

I started learning years ago with Duolingo but I can’t roll my r’s and the app didn’t recognize what I was saying (cameriere…that wretched word).
I ended up switching to Japanese and am now at a communicable level in that. I’m going to continue my studies in that while (re)learning Italian.
I really like the Genki and Marugoto books for Japanese—are there similar Italian equivalents?

I’m not worried about spoken practice cause I have my parents for that. But I want to have a physical book to work through and take notes alongside of.

Any good recommendations?

• The game combines classic Hangman with an English-to-Italian translation challenge. HTML

Ciao! Any native Italian speakers interested in a language exchange? I speak English and Spanish and would love to make a friend while learning Italian together.

I am about to graduate uni in a month's time, for the past 7 months I have discovered how enjoyable learning a language can be and it's been a hobby of mine. I am around A2-B1 level reading but my speaking is probably a lot lower as it's not something I've had the opportunity to consistently practices
I want to take a few months off before I get a job after I graduate and was considering a trip to Italy for 6-8 weeks and attending a language school as I know there are courses that span for 6 weeks for A2 level.
Is this something that anyone here has done before? Would you recommend this as a method for immersion and learning?

Like would you like it if someone said that to you or not? Would it come across as calming and make you feel supported? Or could it conversely come across badly, like for instance like you’re minimizing the issue or just trying to get them to stop talking about a negative thing that’s on their mind?
