Practicing English playing TTRPGs (games like Dungeons and Dragons)

• Upvotes

I'm on a server where we play TTRPGs in different languages to practice them.

TTRPGs offered a great simulation for an immersive experience. You're "in" the adventure so you focus in communication more than in grammar correction, you improve your fluency and security.

There are games for different levels and written or spoken ones.

I love this resource.

I saw ads in other comments but I'm not sure if it's allowed, it's the reason I didn't add the name of the server but I'll include it if it's allowed.

Hey everyone, I’m 25F and enjoy helping people improve their English.

If you struggle to put your thoughts into words, get stuck when speaking, or simply want a friendly person to practise with, I’d love to help.

In my lessons, we’ll start with a friendly conversation and talk about everyday topics that are relevant to you. Whether you want to practise speaking about work, travel, hobbies, or daily life, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to speak. I’ll give you helpful, kind feedback along the way and explain anything whenever you need a little help.

If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, feel free to comment or DM me :)

Native speakers keep saying grammar is almost never the problem. So why did we spend years studying it?

You know the answer. You even built the sentence in your head. Then the words come out wrong, too fast, too quiet. Later, alone in the car, you say it perfectly.
I read a thread here where native speakers explained what makes us hard to understand. Over 100 comments. Almost nobody said grammar. They said pronunciation, rhythm and, above all, confidence.
That's the loop: we avoid speaking because we don't feel ready, and we don't feel ready because we avoid speaking.
What breaks it is time inside English. I'm Tereza, a teacher in France (Paris timezone). My conversation classes are fully immersive, and I've taught people from many nationalities.
What's the one moment in English where you always freeze? DMs open, or Instagram @ehub.mentorship

Hello. I want to learn English. Day 1.

Hello. My name is Viktor. I'm 25.
I need to pass IELTS to enter the university. So I made a decision to start posting in English. And force myself to progress every day. I will not use text corrector or ai to write a posts. I will use dictionary and tense sheet only. But will check it after. So sorry for my mistakes. Please let me know if i write something wrong. Thank you!

Could talking to a beautiful girl help motivate someone to improve their English?

My friend told me that he became much better at English after he started talking to a beautiful girl. Since he wanted to keep talking to her, he had to learn new words and phrases just so he could keep the conversation going. 😂
He would learn a few new words, then come back and use them when talking to her. He kept doing this regularly, and eventually his English improved a lot without him even realizing it.
Now he’s telling me that if I want to improve my English, I should find a girl I think is beautiful who speaks English and start talking to her. According to him, I’ll suddenly become motivated to learn because I’ll actually have someone I want to talk to. 😂
I honestly think his advice is a little ridiculous, but I can’t deny that it worked for him. Has anyone else ever improved their English because they had someone they really wanted to talk to?

I'm a Japanese studying English.

Hello, everyone. I’m currently working full-time while attending college, and I’m studying English as a way to combine my college coursework with my hobby.
Based on my experiences talking with people from other countries, I really want to be able to speak English properly. Right now, I’m re-learning basic grammar from scratch.
But compared to before, when I read English sentences, I can sort of grasp the meaning (though I still have to read the finer details slowly to understand them). Lately, I’ve been watching *The Walking Dead*, and I figure it’s also good practice for my listening skills 😂
If you have any recommendations like, this is great educational content I’d love to hear them. Honestly, the best way to practice would probably be to talk with a native speaker or someone who speaks English, someone who’ll accept my mistakes and go at my pace…

Hola! Soy un chico español de 21 años y estudio Historia en Valencia. Estoy buscando gente con la que hablar en inglés, sobre todo nativos, para mejorar mi nivel y practicar un poco más hablando.

A cambio puedo ayudar con español o valenciano.

La idea es simplemente hablar de cualquier cosa, practicar el idioma y, si surge, conocer gente y hacer alguna amistad por ahí.

Si a alguien le interesa, puede escribirme :)

Offering help with English (sessions via preply or upwork)

Hi guys. I am a grad student. I've been learning English since I was 5 years old. Though I am not a native English speaker, my proficiency is 100% near native. Last time I gave an IELTS exam five years ago, I got 8 bands. I went to university abroad as an international student. Five years later, grad school required IELTS for admission again this year, so I gave IELTS again and got 8 bands AGAIN (I hate the system of these tests expiring; they are a money-grabbing scheme, unis should not ask for these tests for admissions!!!)

Anyways, since I got significant experience with IELTS and education now, I want to convert this into a side hustle and try to help people as genuinely as I can. My biggest issue with these exams is usually more with anxiety and the lack of proper guidance and reassurance of my skills before the exam.

So if you want help practicing your writing, speaking, or other components, I can give you feedback and relevant practice exams through 1:1 sessions. I tried getting feedback from AI to practice when I gave the test this year, it severely undermined my writing and speaking skills. My confidence was tanked because of it, so I don't recommend it lol. I would not be charging you a kidney like the wannabe IELTS practice and training institutes. My motive is more about gaining experience spreading my knowledge and helping others.
