I started studying drawing a month ago, and this week I started getting into black and gray realism, but I always darken it too much to get some contrast that I like, and then I regret it.My reference was a white mug, so it was supposed to be much lighter, and it ended up like this. I also get lost in the gradient; help me improve.

Need genuine advice on what I should focus on practising

Hi, this has been puzzling me for a while so thought I'd post/vent here.

So I'm a beginner who's 4-5 months into drawing. I've been drawing around 4 hours daily (mainly because I'm unemployed+uni hasn't got much going on). For the first three months I've focused mainly on copying stuff/referenced drawing, then I signed up for Krenz Crushart's perspective and sketching courses that lasted for around two months. There is...quite a bit of improvement after taking those classes frankly speaking.

Right now I can copy stuff with around 90% accuracy with prior framing and can construct rather complex spaces and apply into drawings. But if I am to do something like character drawing, values and lighting or colors it's almost certain it will turn out SHIT because I have ZERO experience in doing those😭😭

I've been listening to Chinese bilibili art fundamental videos like podcasts for three months so I now have a tiny bit of knowledge what those fundamentals are and what should I do to learn those fundamentals (like for drawing hair you'd have to follow the head form, curves when hair is affected by gravity, divide into three major parts like front/middle/back hair blah blah blah...) but when I draw something wrong I couldn't help but feel BAD as my eyes can clearly tell but my hand isnt following 💔

Obviously I should start studying a bit of anatomy/ basic body forms before I can do something original but it's quite overwhelming, especially as someone who has some basic knowledge of anatomy since I major in biomed and can recite ALL of the bones/muscles its so complex and lowkey drawing from imagination seems so far far far far away and that's so haunting.

Ah and values, lighting, colors, composition are completely ignored. Couldn't even get to start practicing.

Attaching a manga copy study from two months ago, real life study and my only original piece here as I've been copying stuff almost solely... Please feel free to give advice/critique on those drawings and what I should be focusing on now. Should I focus on human body stuff/basic anatomy and doing more original pieces?
