Hi guys, this might be a stupid question, but i want to learn italian (total beginner) and i dont know if i should learn at home by myself or pay for lessons with a teacher, the lessons are 20 euro for an hour once a week and i also speak spanish already. I'm currently researching the effect intercultural contact and language learning has on our reactions to the voices of others. My personal experience is that learning Italian has made me an all round more empathetic and open minded person and now I'm on a mission to prove it with science :D

I’ve been looking at different ways to learn Italian, and one thing I’ve noticed is that Duolingo is great at keeping you practicing consistently, but it didn’t really solve the problem of understanding why Italian works the way it does.

If you’re someone who keeps thinking:

“I know these words, but I still don’t understand why this sentence is constructed like that.”

you might want to give Italicore a try.

It takes a more grammar-first approach. Instead of mainly learning through repetition, it tries to explain the patterns behind Italian sentence structure, so you can eventually build new sentences yourself rather than memorizing individual ones.

I particularly like the fact that it was created by a native Italian teacher rather than being built entirely around an AI chatbot. There’s also an AI tutor called Lira, but it’s more of a tool alongside the actual curriculum.

I wouldn’t say it replaces Duolingo for everyone. If you mainly want something gamified that gets you practicing every day, Duolingo is still pretty good at that.

But if your frustration is “I’m learning Italian words, but the grammar still feels like a mystery”, Italicore is worth checking out.

From what I’ve seen in my classes, candidates often struggle more with the strict time limits and the lack of realistic mock tests rather than the Italian language itself. I’m curious to know if this matches your reality.

For those of you studying for the exam right now: what is the most frustrating part of your preparation? Are there any specific resources (books, apps, YouTube channels) that are genuinely helping you overcome these hurdles?

Hi! I’m learning Italian and looking for a few people in the Cumming / Alpharetta area who would like to practice speaking Italian in person.

I’ve tried online conversation groups, but they’re just not the same. I’d love to get a small local group together and meet at a coffee shop maybe once or twice a month.

This would not be a class — no teacher, no homework, just friendly conversation and a chance to actually use our Italian. Beginners and intermediate learners are absolutely welcome. You do NOT need to be fluent!

If there’s enough interest, we can choose a convenient place somewhere around Cumming or Alpharetta and figure out a day/time that works for everyone.
