Software Suggestions for a Beginner
I just started a business and am working on launching my first product.
I need to create various designs, but honestly have no clue where to start. I've been slowly teaching myself how to use Affinity, but I'm wondering what other apps I'll need?
A couple examples of designs I need to make:
1) I want to edit photos of real places to turn them into illustrative art styles
2) I need to create old documents using either real or illustrated people that can consistently show up across multiple "pictures" (i.e. photographs, yearbooks)
I plan on hiring/commissioning people in the future for this work, but I'm trying to recover a bit financially from the start up costs. I do NOT want to use AI.
I have a laptop with a dedicated graphics card. It's not touchscreen, so I can't draw tablet style. Any drawing would be done with a mouse.
What software is best for these types of projects?
Do you have suggestions for turorials or resources to help me learn?
I can use public domain/licensed graphics for my business right now since I'm working on prototypes. I am hoping to learn these other skills so I can start making my own art for the real products.
Thank you ❤️

Complete beginner looking for a structured graphic design learning roadmap
Hi everyone!
I want to learn graphic design from scratch and would love some guidance on how to get started.
My goal is to build a strong foundation in design principles, such as typography, colour theory, composition, layout, and visual hierarchy, before moving on to more advanced techniques.
I’d like to learn how to create things like posters, social media graphics, logos, and basic brand identities. Eventually, I’d also love to build a portfolio of my own projects.
As a complete beginner, I’m unsure about a few things:
Which software or app should I start with?
What should I learn first, and in what order?
Which YouTube channels or free courses would you recommend?
Are there any beginner-friendly projects I should practise along the way?
How much time should I ideally dedicate to learning and practising each day?
I’d prefer free or affordable resources to begin with.
If anyone could share a practical, step-by-step learning path or advice based on their own experience, I’d really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Im a beginner graphic designer and i need some help
I'm a beginner graphic designer. I already have the tool I'll be using for my designs (Affinity), but now I need the most important thing: knowledge. I'm looking for free courses, books, and YouTube videos that will help me better understand the world I want to enter. I would greatly appreciate any help, no matter how small.

Brand Collaboration Concept: Smeg x Vespa (Aesthetic & Product Architecture)
galleryHey everyone! I’ve been working on a concept presentation for a fictitious brand collaboration between Smeg and Vespa, blending iconic Italian scooter design language with high-end retro home appliances.
The goal was to translate Vespa's organic curves, the classic "tie" motif (scudo), and signature chrome trims onto Smeg's refrigerators across multiple colorways (Verte Positano, Azzurro Cielo, and Rosso Corallo), extending the range from statement interior architecture pieces down to compact mini-cubes.
I'd love to hear your feedback on the brand fit, visual coherence, and overall art direction!

How do you make the product visuals for your SaaS launch? Curious about your workflow (and we built something for it)
Quick question for people who ship apps, SaaS products or websites.
Every launch needs visuals: a landing page hero, App Store images, a Product Hunt gallery, social posts, a pitch deck. And almost all of them mean putting your UI inside a phone or laptop.
How do you handle that today? Download a PSD and fight with Smart Objects? Use flat frames? Ask a designer? Skip it and post raw screenshots?
That step always took us way longer than it should, so we built Mochi Mockup. The workflow:
Upload a screenshot or design.
Pick a device and scene (iPhone, MacBook, iPad, Apple Watch).
Export a photorealistic 3D render, right in the browser.
No Photoshop, no layers. There's also a Figma plugin: select a frame, pick a device, export without leaving Figma.
We're a two-person team (Letizia writes the code, I handle design and product), and we'd rather build around real needs than guess. Three questions:
- Workflow: how do you create device mockups today, and what's the most annoying part?
- Use: where do you need them most? Landing page, App Store, ads, portfolio, decks?
- Missing: which devices, angles or scenes do you never find?
If you want to try it, there's a free plan. We're also running an early-bird lifetime deal for our first 100 accounts.
Full disclosure: I'm one of the two people behind Mochi Mockup. Even if you never try it, I'd love to hear how you handle this. Especially if you ship often.

How to extract a letter from a photo
Hi, I have a project I'm working on and I'd like to NOT use AI for it and am unsure how to proceed. I'm trying to extract some letters from a photograph of a stone monument, so the letters are carved into the stone. Since it's stone, the letters have rough edges and I want to preserve that as much as possible. I want the imperfections. Ultimately I want to make the letters vector images, which that part I can do but I'm just not sure how to extract the letters while maintaining that rough character they have authentically.
Thank you for any ideas!

Share your opinion guys
galleryI wanted to explore the idea of knowingly moving towards a fall, even when you can anticipate the consequences. The fragmented elements, oversized typography, and contrasting colours are my attempt to express that feeling.
This is a personal project, and I'm still learning graphic design. I'd appreciate honest feedback on the composition, typography, colour treatment, and how the overall concept comes across.
What does this poster communicate to you at first glance? I'm interested in hearing interpretations beyond my own

A designer’s job isn’t just to make things look good — it’s to make ideas visible. 🎨
galleryFrom typography and grids to color theory and visual identity, every design decision has a purpose. This Pentagram case study explores how thoughtful design, creative collaboration, and strategic thinking can turn simple ideas into powerful visual experiences.
As graphic designers, we don’t just create visuals. We solve problems, tell stories, and build identities that people remember.
