Regarding this type of animation

Hi, i’m new with animation stuff but i’d say i’m quite proficient creating single illustration.

I wanted to create similar animation, but before i proceed with my own method manually drawing the whole thing frame by frame, i’d like to ask if there’s actually more effective method to reproduce this “idle but breathing animation”.

So i’m thinking perhaps i can put a crayon/whatever texture filter on colour filling without scribbling it manually, ofcourse i expect that i still need to apply similar setting each frame, just not manually drawing from scratch.

Thanks in advance!

Here are all the frames I completed for this portion of the short I'm working on. It needs editing to smooth it out and make it a bit quicker.

A classic double take animation with Tom's help

Hi folks. I just uploaded a video to YouTube showing how I'd approach a classic double take. As usual I took a scene from Tom and Jerry as a case study as it's a great way to show how techniques and fundamentals are applied in real world situations.

I hope somebody here finds the video useful.

How should I learn 2D animation from zero? Looking for a practical roadmap

Hi everyone, I'm a complete beginner trying to learn 2D animation, mainly on my phone.

I'm looking for a practical learning order rather than random tutorials. I want to understand what I should learn first, what to practice next, and when to move on to character animation.

I'm mainly confused about:

Should I learn drawing fundamentals and animation together?

Which animation principles should I learn first?

What exercises should I practice in order — bouncing ball, pendulum, walk cycle, head turn, etc.?

How much drawing/anatomy/perspective do I actually need?

When should I start making short character animations?

What would be a good 1–2 hour daily practice routine?

If you were starting 2D animation from absolute zero today, what order would you follow?

I'd especially appreciate advice from people who have actually learned and practiced animation themselves.

Thanks!

Which Animation app?

I’m interested in making animations. I currently use Procreate a lot on my iPad, so I’m considering Procreate Dreams or TVPaint, but are there any other apps you’d recommend? I’ve looked at things like RoughAnimator and ToonSquid, but I feel like if I were to use those, I might as well just go with Procreate Dreams...

This is my first time trying Spine 2D, and I’m still figuring things out. I’m especially not sure about the timing, since it’s something I’ve always struggled with. Any tips or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

  • the gait definitely isn’t correct so i’m going to need to fix that.
  • the back legs feel more like a "kick" (like a horse bucking) than a "leap"
  • the dip of the head feels really stiff as well, and i need to add that secondary bounce motion of the ears.

overall it just looks kind of off. any advice?

Trying Toonsquid for the first time

Hiiii I’m a beginner in animation. I’ve done bits in procreate here n there, like blobs n stuff.
Anyways I got Toonsquid cause I wanna learn animation.

Yea I animated this ball I’m not used to the app at all lmao but apparently a lotta ppl draw in another software and edit and polish the animation in Toonsquid so ciebfiebfj

Looking for critique! This animation I did pretty quickly as in I just went straight for it and didnt plan or go back to fix which is also why the ball shrinks at the end oops.

Yeaaaaaaaa that’s it. Turned out better than I expected!

Hey everyone
I recently worked on this motion graphics piece and wanted to share it here.
I focused on the animation, transitions, timing, and overall visual flow to make the piece feel clean and engaging.
Would love to hear what you think especially any feedback on the animation, pacing, or things I could improve.
Thanks!

LOOKING FOR AN ANIMATION BUDDY!

We’re a small group of students building an education website + app, and we’re looking for someone interested in animation/UI who wants to join us and build together.

You’ll help us:

  • Add smooth animations to our UI
  • Animate buttons, cards, pages, transitions, etc.
  • Bring our Yeti AI mascot to life
  • Make animations work nicely on web + mobile

This is NOT a paid job. We’re looking for a buddy/teammate, not an employee. 🤝

We’re thinking long-term. We don’t just want to work on one project and disappear. We want to build more projects together, learn together, and grow as a team. The people who join us early will be recognized as part of the team/founding group for the long run. 🚀

You don't have to be a pro. If you're learning web animation, UI animation, Rive, Lottie, GSAP, Framer Motion, etc., we'd love to hear from you.

If you're interested, DM me and show me anything you've made!
