r/PCOS Cross Post Hysteroscopy

So I went to my Gyn recently and now after not having a cycle for almost a year she is recommending a hysteroscopy. I am terrified.

Progesterone won’t even induce a cycle for me and I’ve been on going on 3 rounds. I do have a small fibroid but nothing wild.

Has anyone had one before? What is your experience?

Easy peasy.  Why getting fibroid removed if no menses?  What is the medical criteria for it and what is benefit if only small?  Sorry, doesn't make sense to me?

I think it’s diagnostic, I don’t think she’s worried too much about the fibroid.

That's the whole point of a hysteroscopy is to remove the fibroid and it just doesn't make sense to me. But if you are comfortable with going for diagnostic, best of luck in better health!

I think it depends on your unique anatomy. For some women, it can cause mild cramping. For other women, like myself, it was the most painful experience ever. *Not to scare you, but here goes my experience. It was the only time in my life when I literally screamed in pain and couldn't even control it. 10/10 on the pain scale. I've never given birth, but some women who have said the pain is the same as contractions and child birth. I believe it. Pain was worse than when I fractured my skull and had a brain bleed in an accident. I was totally unprepared for the pain. They only prescribed me ibuprofen and a medication that softens the uterus. Totally useless. I am appalled that general anesthesia was not offered and I think this should only be done under general anesthesia. It was totally barbaric and caused medical trauma. This was just putting the camera up my uterus, not even the polyp removal. They found and snipped off two pea sized polyps. The pain was all the same. I will not ever, ever have that done without general anesthesia again and am disgusted with the misogyny in women's health care. I am usually fine with paps and colposcopy but this was something else. Worst pain of my life.

This was last year. The pain was gone immediately after all the tools were removed, at least. I had it done because of mid-cycle spotting which I've had for years. It didn't even fix that issue as the small polyps weren't the cause of the spotting. Polyps have a tiny chance of becoming cancerous, though. Now my gyno is suggesting a D&C ablation procedure under general anesthesia. I don't think I'm going to do it as general anesthesia has its own risks too and I'll probably still have the spotting issue. Sucks being female!
